09.01.2022 CLOSED | It's with a truly heavy heart that we let you all know we wont be reopening after this latest lock down. We had been given approval for some renovations by the landlord, which has since been revoked, leaving us unable to move forward. . It means that we are not able to make Ruby on Paget what we had hoped for - a two year training program for staff with disability, teaching them coffee, food & customer service skills at Ruby On Paget before moving ...them over to flagship cafe Our Ruby Girl in Como, as we cannot put in a dedicated kitchen to train and continue to make all our products in house. . As wonderful as it would be to make a decision purely based on ethics, the reality is, we have to be able to pay the bills and turn a profit, neither of which is possible in the current space with the model we wish to operate within (unless there's an incredibly generous benefactor out there somewhere, or someone knows tomorrow's lotto numbers) . We are truly devastated and really disappointed that this is where we are. On a larger scale, funding and support for disability employment across industry requires some serious rethinking at a policy level, and we will continue to do all we can to advocate for our staff in that regard. . This chapter may be closing, but @ourrubygirl lives on and Ali will be joining the team in Como, where David, Steph & Laura work, Tarkin & Liz are doing work experience and where Lizzie works in our coffee van. We are so incredibly proud of, and grateful for, our staff and the team of chefs, baristas and admin that support them. . Thank you for being part of our lives and the Ruby Girl story.
