21.01.2022 Jane Eyre: Life at Lowood: Directed by Jessica Thorpe Performance dates: July 10th, 17th, 24th 7pm and 24th 2pm Jane Eyre is one of literature’s most compelling heroines. This is the story focused on Jane’s difficult youth as an orphan left with uncaring relatives who eventually send her to Lowood a poor boarding school run by Mr. Brocklehurst.... If Jane Eyre could give advice to her younger self, What would it be? In this beautiful adaption of Jane Eyre, life at Lowood is narrated by adult Jane reflecting on her younger self as she struggles in a home where she is abused and rejected. As she longs for a fresh start she is moved to Lowood School where she meets a true friend in Helen, a young sick girl full of hope. Matched with moving music reflective of the characters and story, this production is not to be missed. As a director I am so looking forward to sharing the tears and joys this production cast brings with our audiences. This script has so much to say about being a free soul, and a passionate person in a harsh and restrictive environment. How can we bloom and push through the muck to be able to enjoy the blessings of life. Come along and share in this story with us. Ticket price is $30 for adults and $25 concession, $40 at the door. To book tickets go to www.trybooking.com/BPMJX To reserve email [email protected] JANE EYRE: LIFE AT LOWOOD will be performed at John Lees Centre, 15 Evan Street; Penrith. www.rubyproductions.com.au
17.01.2022 AUDITIONS NOTICE: Synopsis: Yentl is a play by Leah Napolin and Isaac Bashevis Singer. Based on Singer's short story "Yentl the Yeshiva Boy," it centers on a young girl who defies tradition by discussing and debating Jewish law and theology with her rabbi father. When he dies, she cuts her hair, dresses as a man, and sets out to find a yeshiva where she can continue to study Talmud and live secretly as a male named Anshel. When her study partner Avigdor discovers the truth,... Yentl's assertions that she is "neither one sex nor the other" and has "the soul of a man in the body of a woman" suggest the character is questioning their gender identity, especially when she opts to remain living as Anshel for the rest of her life.
