25.01.2022 Our new logo has landed! Paying homage to the centerpiece of the west, the Port of Melbourne Designer: @collinsmade

24.01.2022 We’ve been busy here at Rudi keeping up with the changes to the seating policy. We are blessed to have such a large open space and in accordance with the guidelines, we have moved a lot of our tables outdoors. We are still keeping our doors open so bring a jacket if you feel like it could get cold. Thank you so much for your support in not only our business but in small businesses in the local area, we wouldn’t be able to do it without each and everyone of you.

24.01.2022 Hi Friends, we will continue to trade as a takeaway only venue for the near future. That means no dine-in and table table service for now. We hope to return back to normal, however with the current restrictions it isn’t viable to do so just yet. We hope you understand and we thank you for your continued support and patronage. Rudi team

22.01.2022 Today is a sad day for Rudi as we say goodbye to our beloved head chef and friend. Sian has been with us for only a short period time but her energy, skill and infectious laughter have made her an integral part of the family. Since the moment she took on the position, she has continually pushed the business forward while maintaining a relaxed and friendly composure that has rarely been seen. Sian will be going back home to England to pursue a career as a pastry chef in a new restaurant. We wish you all the best and you will truly be missed.

22.01.2022 You heard right! We will be open to keep you charged all weekend long. Take it easy everyone and we hope to see you soon

21.01.2022 Don’t forget to buy your coffee tomorrow from a @streetsmartaust participant. $1.00 from every coffee sold will go towards action against homelessness

21.01.2022 We’re still here and we are still doing our thing. #boyband Thank you for the tremendous amount of support over the past few months, it’s been a difficult time for all of us in Victoria. We will continue to remain open and service those that are able to stop in. ... Stay safe and be kind xo

21.01.2022 Closed Sunday the 24th. Our Point of Sales system has gone down overnight and we won’t be able to get it up and running tomorrow. Apologies for anyone who has made plans to drop in. We should have everything up and running by Monday morning. See you all soon

21.01.2022 Takeaway only for 2020 Hi friends, we know that so many of you have been hanging out, waiting for our return back to dine-in, but unfortunately we aren’t able to deliver on our promise for table service this year. We will be reopening on January the 7th after our hard earned Christmas & New Years break. It’s been a tricky year for us, and we didn’t want to rush in to doing dine in if it meant that our standards would be compromised. ... Thank you for your understanding and sorry to everyone, you will have to wait just a little longer. We promise it will be worth the wait. Rudimentary team

20.01.2022 Our retail shelves are fully stocked with only one more week to go before we close up shop for the remainder of the year. If you need some help choosing coffee for your getaway or buying a gift for a friend, ask one of the friendly faces behind the bar and we will point you in the right direction.

19.01.2022 New menu items!! With the warmer weather approaching, we’ve swapped out those heavier dishes for lighter ones. Let us know what you think! Here we have the Granola with berry smoothie, seasonal fruit and coconut flakes.

19.01.2022 We’re back for 2020 baby!! Hope you had a lovely break and managed to get away. We can’t wait to hear what you’ve been up to!

19.01.2022 Rudimentary will be taking 2 weeks off over Christmas and New Years to recalibrate after what was a pretty interesting year. The team all have plans to get away but we will also be working hard to make changes to go back to dine-in format from when we reopen on the 7th of January.

18.01.2022 Rudi is going on a small holiday. Our last day of service for the year will be on Sunday the 22nd of Dec and we will reopen on the 8th of January. Thank you so much for your amazing support in our business. We’ve shared so many stories and many more laughs. We can’t wait to see what 2020 will bring. Have a great holiday period and if you,re getting away, please have fun and stay safe. See you soon. Rudimentary team

18.01.2022 We will remain open for the foreseeable future as a takeaway business. It’s been a complex week for us and no doubt for you. We’ve had to change elements of our business more times than I can count in a span of 3 days and we will most likely change them again. We’re taking it one day at a time and heeding the advice of the government. I can complain about how things are unfolding but they have one tough job to do to keep this ship from capsizing. In the coming days, the bus...iness will look different but we will continue to pump out the food and beverages that you know us for. Our hours of operation will most likely change but we will keep you updated on that. Please be patient with us as we try to adjust to the new format. Thank you so much for your continued support, we couldn’t be more proud to be in the west than we are now. Love you all Rudi team

17.01.2022 Chef wanted! Rudimentary is currently looking for a new chef to join our small team. If you’re interested or know someone who is, send your resume to [email protected] or just pop in to say hi

16.01.2022 Busy little bees We’ve just installed a chimney beehive! What’s the chimney for I hear you asking. The idea behind the chimney is to move the entrance/exit to a higher point and raise the flight path of the bees to 2.4m. So why have we installed a bee hive? The role of bees is much, much larger than just honey production. Not only do they pollinate much of our native flora, they are also responsible for about one-third of our daily diet. A huge percentage of our edible crops... require floral visits from bees to form fruits, vegetables, and even nuts. Other edibles, like cabbage, onions, celery, and mustard need bee pollination to form seeds for propagation as well as the spice rack. Come along our journey

15.01.2022 Tomorrow is one of the biggest days of the year for #Footscray: St Jerome's Laneway Festival. With so many national and international headliners performing, I w...anted to take a moment today to recognise our own local talent, and put together a bit of a guide to help our visitors out. It’s a huge day, so you’re going to want to start with a caffeine kick. Footscray Milking Station, Cafe Cui, Hey Zeus, Rudimentary, Small Graces, Footscray Doughnuts & Coffee, Moore St Milkbar and Small French déli will all have you covered there. There’s also the option of breakfast pho at our amazing Vietnamese Restaurants. At some point, you’re also going to need food. Mc Dumpling, Bad Love Club, House Of Injera, Up in Smoke 3011, Roti Road, Addis Abeba Restaurant and Bar (great vegan!) Saigon Pho, Sapa Hills, Los Pollos FGC and Amasya Kebab House will all see you right. For those who still haven’t had enough (and how could you want to leave Footscray?), there are a heap of places that will keep the party raging, including Littlefoot Bar, Sloth bar, Pride of our Footscray Community Bar, Back Alley Sally's, Bar Josephine, The Cheeky Pint, Reverence Hotel, Lickety Split, The Night Heron, MR WEST - Bar & Bottle Shop and Hop Nation. Anywhere I’ve left off the list? Comment down below and let me know your favourite spots! I hope everyone has an amazing time tomorrow and that you love Footscray as much as we do. Remember to stay hydrated and look out for one another.

10.01.2022 Closed Melbourne Cup -Rudi will be closed on Tuesday the 5th to have a small break. We will be trading as normal all other days.

09.01.2022 Exciting news. Rudi has partnered with @_reground to divert coffee waste from entering landfill. We’ve previously put spent coffee grounds into the our compost bins and green waste bins however having a company like Reground ensures our waste is being redirected in the best way possible. A large percentage goes towards the Melbourne zoo and community gardens. They turn waste into resource. What’s cooler than that.

09.01.2022 A new decade has begun, and sadly a fire season in this country like none other. Like you, we too are feeling helpless and overwhelmed by this catastrophe. Lives and communities have been lost, habitats destroyed. Our beautiful country is being reduced to ashes We’ve deliberated on what we can do, gestures we can make to help ease the pain for those in affected areas. We’ve decided to donate $1 from every coffee sold during our first week of service (till Jan 15th). The money will go to the CFA, Victorian Bushfire Appeal and the Wildlife Victoria Bushfire Appeal. We encourage you to support our amazing charities and fireys in the best way you can Rudi team

08.01.2022 Hi friends, we’ve been inundated with messages in regards to the new government changes that will take effect from June 1st. We’ve decided to keep the business trading as a takeaway venue for the short term as it would not be viable to change to table service just yet. We will however open up the garden and have more outdoor seating (no tables) so you can take your food and beverage to enjoy in this space once again. Please respect social distancing rules at all times and if you’re unwell, please wait till your better before you come visit us. Thank you so much for your support and we hope to see you soon
