24.01.2022 The surface of your rug is called the pile. The direction in which the pile naturally lies is called the pile direction. Here you can see Manni carefully grooming the pile on this large Pakistani rug while it is drying. This is an essential step in our processes here at RugWash to bring your beautiful rug back to life.

23.01.2022 Iran Rug Tour: Shiraz to Kerman Contd We stopped in at the town of Sirjan lying between Neyriz and Kerman. Afshars, who are a Turkic-speaking nomad and partly settled tribal group are settled near here and the town is a market for their rugs. Here the weavers on their horizontal looms differ from the other tribes I have mentioned, they actually go to work and at the end of the day go home.

23.01.2022 Our rinsing process is second to none. Using highly efficient spray jets and precision wringer rollers, our rinser/wringer thoroughly rinses and extracts all soap from the rugs.

23.01.2022 An unusual carpet that a customer brought in for cleaning. It is reversible and has a different design on each side. Our customer purchased it in Iran during her travels.

22.01.2022 Before and after photos of a wool and viscose rug that had some large beer stains on it. Our customer in North Queensland shipped it to us after numerous phone calls to local carpet cleaners who refused to clean it. She was eventually referred to us by a cleaner in Townsville who sends work our way. As you can see it has come up a treat. Another happy customer.

20.01.2022 Pre-cleaning inspection is the most important step before the actual cleaning process begins. Identifying and documenting pre-existing conditions ahead of time prevents any misunderstandings between us and the customer.

20.01.2022 A South American runner that came into us with dog urine odour and colour migration. We managed to remove the odour and rectify the colour bleeding. Another happy customer.

19.01.2022 When rugs are taken from the loom and are not rectangular or do not lie flat, they may be wetted and dried by stretching (blocking), with tacks hammered into the floor to correct the shape. This facility in Tehran had floors and floors of blocked rugs drying.

18.01.2022 Iran Rug Tour: Shiraz to Kerman Contd It may look like a scene form the movie "Grease" but no, it is just the boys on one corner of the street and the girls at the other end of the street in a village. Probably gossiping about each other and too shy to talk to each other. Also, some more photos of our stop near Neyriz

18.01.2022 I suppose the offshoot to all this is someone has to pull the tacks out. You tend to get pretty good at your job after a while. I reckon this guy has done a few in his time.

17.01.2022 Listening to a musician play his Sitar at the Aali Qapu Palace in the music room in Esfahan, Iran. The music room on the sixth floor has a stunning ceiling and is punctuated with cutouts of vases and musical instruments, which served as accoustical as well as decorative function.

17.01.2022 On behalf of everyone at RugWash we hope you and your family are safe and remain so during this unprecedented Coronavirus situation we are facing. We are still operating from our Richlands plant, although with a reduced and select service. Please phone us on 3375 9896 to book your rugs in for us to collect or to arrange for a time for you to drop your rugs into us. We have a strict process for drop offs and appointments must be made prior to coming in. Our current amended hours are Mon-Thur 7.00am to 3.30pm.

17.01.2022 Before and after photos of a heavily soiled shag pile rug that we washed. Can your cleaner achieve this result?

16.01.2022 Challenge accepted. Before and after photos of some current work just finished.

14.01.2022 A shearing machine is used to lower the pile after washing. European countries tend to like a higher pile. The Japanese market prefer their rugs to be lower.

14.01.2022 A nice little Persian Shandak rug that recently came in for washing. Not an old piece but nice colours. Shandak refers to a town in Sistan Baluchistan. Shandak is the terminology use in the Iran bazaar. They often designate rugs based on the city they buy it from and bring it to the bazaar. ... The weavers are all Baluch, hence the dark color palette common to all Baluchi rugs. Also a give away is the finishing embroidery at ends and of course the single wedged knotting with what we call semi depressed warp.

14.01.2022 Interesting post by the ARCS about MILDEW that I would like to share. Especially relevant around this time of year with our storms and high humidity Mildew is a destructive fungus that feeds on organic materials. Mildew is considered a type of mold, and while it is often thought of as a single organism, there are many types of mildew that grow on a variety of surfaces, from wood to paper and wool and cotton which most area rugs are made of. While mildew is associated with... a musty odor and splotchy stains, it is actually odorless and invisible, the odor and stains are a result of its digestive process as it eats through its food source. Mildew exists in a dormant state throughout the environment and only under the right conditions, does it begin to spread. Mildew grows when there is a food source and moisture, and if there is a lot of moisture and warm temperatures it can grow quickly. When mildew grows on a rug it can weaken and damage the fibers. If mildew goes unchecked it can leave permanent stains and even rot away entire sections of an area rug. Once a fiber has been exposed to mildew any damage will be permanent. It may not be as extreme as a gaping hole or large, splotchy stains, but even a small amount of mildew can weaken any part of your rug it comes in contact with. The only way to prevent mildew growth is to keep area rugs dry. Under the right conditions, mildew can begin growing in a matter of hours, so if a rug has been in a flood it should be dried, and ideally professionally cleaned, as soon as possible to prevent mildew growth. High humidity levels can also cause mildew to grow. If you have rugs that are being used, or stored in areas with high humidity they should be moved, or checked regularly for mildew. Another option is to use a dehumidifier in the storage area to help keep moisture levels in check and protect your rugs and any other possessions in storage. If there is mildew present in you rug, there are a number of fungicides that a professional cleaner can use to treat your rug. Keep in mind, any damage caused by mildew is permanent and your cleaner cannot reverse the effects of mildew. Sometimes a rug will be weakened enough that cleaning will damage it further, and additional repairs are necessary. Your cleaner can consult with you about what condition your rug is in and what would be appropriate. After your rug has been cleaned and treated, any prevention of further mildew growth depends on the environment your rug goes into. If the conditions remain conducive to mildew growth, your rug may continue to develop mildew and be subject to the rot that comes with it.

14.01.2022 We recently received some water damaged rugs in from a Restoration Company. Ajay is correcting the blue colour migration on the fringes of this particular piece. Job well done.

13.01.2022 Everyone at RugWash would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for another great year and wish everybody a happy and safe holiday. We will close from 3.30 pm Friday 21 December 2018 and we will reopen at 7.00 am on Monday 7th January 2019.

12.01.2022 This expensive Persian Qum silk rug was water damaged and cleaned by a Restoration Company. The customer was not happy with their attempts and it was sent to us to try and rectify the issues. As you can see it came out beautifully. Please dont let your rug be cleaned by companies not experienced in this type of work.

12.01.2022 On a friends recommendation our customer had a local carpet cleaner clean this viscose rug for her. They cleaned it at her house and left it in a terrible condition and after numerous attempts to rectify the problem they simply gave up. We were contacted to see if we could help and as you can see we had great success with this difficult fibre and brought her rug back to pristine condition. Always check with your rug cleaner if they have experience in the type of rug you have. Generally there is a label under your rug that has this information. In general, rugs can not be cleaned properly in your home.

11.01.2022 Customer purchased this rug online cheap. Picked it up and realised it had bad urine odour when they got it home. Also it was severely stained on the back. They brought it in to RugWash and we asked them did the seller have any pets. Yes was the reply. Please be aware when purchasing 2nd rugs and look closely at the front and the back before payment. Especially when pets are involved. We ended up rectifying the problems for her and she was very happy with the end result.

11.01.2022 Rugs often lead a very tough life. Pets, moths, flower pots, the wear and tear of daily use take their toll. There are times when something has to be done. RugWash is proud to to offer an in-house rug repair and restoration service. Come and see us for a free quote.

10.01.2022 IRAN is the worlds largest producer and exporter of CARPETS, producing 3/4ths of the worlds total output. And frankly, you cannot visit Iran without being ...completely immersed in the carpet scene. They are decorating almost every floor in all mosques, palaces, museums, hotels, restaurants, households and any other notable buldings. The come in all kinds of textures, designs, colors and styles -- and they add such a unique flavor to Persian culture. I am really enjoying it! Today with our G Adventuress crew, we had the pleasure of visiting one of the most well known carpet shops in Isfahan, Iran -- and little did I know how EXPENSIVE they can be! Well, not all of them (some are $70USD...) but I found one today that is worth $100,000 USD!! Can you believe that? Join me as I take you deeper inside the world of Persian rugs :) Follow Drew Binsky for daily travel videos and inspiration, and come say hi on Insta @drewbinsky! Music: Epidemic Sound *Note* My trip to Iran was from May 26-June 9, but due to limited WiFi there, I decided to delay my videos until trip ended -- which you are seeing in chronological order. Hope you enjoy!

10.01.2022 Before and after photos of a wool and viscose rug that a customer tried to clean themselves. Went and hired a carpet cleaning machine and over wet the area causing a large browning issue. We were able to rectify the problem much to their relief. We highly recommend getting a professional to clean your rugs.

09.01.2022 A large red wine stain we removed from a nice Pakistani Chobi. Our customer was very happy with the end result.

09.01.2022 Interesting post from Drew Binsky. Isfahan is certainly a special place.

07.01.2022 Before and after photos on an Afghani rug that we re-dyed in a few areas. It had some old urine stains. Looks great now. A very happy customer.

07.01.2022 Tried the local beer when I was in Iran. Must admit Im not a fan. It didnt have a lot of taste, the 0% alcohol content didnt concern me but I didnt have another one during my time there.

07.01.2022 Before and after photos of a large Himalayan wool/viscose that came in for some TLC. Came up a treat.

06.01.2022 Iran Rug Tour: Yazd Yazd is one of the best known desert cities in Iran. It is known as the city of wind towers, Zoroastrians, termeh (traditional brocade), silk weaving and sweets (like baqlava and qotab). Yazd is located 270 km southeast of Isfahan province and with a population of approximately 560,000, Zoroastrians and their Tower of Silence Yazd remains a centre for the Zoroastrians - an ancient Iranian religion. Zoroastrianism is one of the worlds oldest monotheistic religions. For a thousand year span, Zoroastrianism was one of the most powerful religions in the world. From 600 BCE to 650 CE, it was the official religion of Persia (Iran). It is reported that there are less than 200,000 practising worldwide.

05.01.2022 Iran Rug Tour: Kerman - Mahan - Rayen - Kerman The tomb of Shah Nur-eddin Nematollah Vali, poet, sage, Sufi and founder of an order of dervishes, has twin minarets covered with turquoise tiles from the bottom up to the cupola. Shah Nematallah Vali spent many years wandering through central Asia perfecting his spiritual gifts before finally settling at Mahan, 30 kms south-east of Kerman, where he passed the last twenty five years of his life. He died in 1431, having founded a ...Darvish order which continues to be an active spiritual force today. We ventured into the walled town of Rayen which has Rayen Castle and is one of the worlds largest and most important brick buildings it is the second largest adobe/brick building in the world after the Bam Citadel. Back to Kerman to look at the Grand Bazaar before heading off to Yazd the next day. As Kerman itself is one of the great historic weaving centres of Persia and where some of the great master-weavers were associated, I was disappointed. To be honest Kerman was a bit underwhelming and I hardly saw a carpet in the Bazaar

04.01.2022 Success. Before and after photos of a large coffee stain on a wool rug. Looks great.

04.01.2022 Before and after photos of a heavily soiled and very dirty Persian rug. It had never been professionally cleaned. We highly recommend getting you rugs cleaned every 18 months to 3 years to keep them in good condition. Hall runners should be cleaned every 12 months.

04.01.2022 While in Japan I had the opportunity to visit a small cleaning facility. While their core business is kimonos and doonas, they do wash some rugs. They were kind enough to offer me a tour and asked lots of questions about what we do at RugWash. I was more than happy to offer any advice that I could. One of the staff is very interested in travelling to Australia to do some training with us. It was great to see someone enthusiastic about our industry.

03.01.2022 A beautiful fine wool and silk rug I saw being woven in Isphahan, Iran. This rug when finished will be a massive 8.0m long x 3.80m wide. It has 75 colours in it and 5 weavers have been working on it for 2 years 4 months. It should take approx. 5 years in total.

02.01.2022 A lot of our customers will remember Taka Uematsu who was our delivery driver for many years. It was great to catch up with him in Tokyo recently and share a drink. He is now a registered tourist guide and spending his time between Australia and Japan. If anyone is visiting around Tokyo and looking for an English speaking guide to show them the sights, hes your man.

02.01.2022 Iran Rug Tour: Kerman to Yazd Leaving Kerman we stopped at Caravanserai near Yazd, close to the ancient silk road for lunch. They were first built around 150. A caravanserai is a roadside inn where travellers or caravans could rest and recover from the days journey. They were not only a simple place for travellers to rest and keep safe their belongings, they also were a meeting point for travellers, merchants, scientists, and many other scholars who wanted to exchange knowledge and ideas, as well as discover new civilisations. They were usually situated 20kms to 30 kms apart. This is the distance that could be covered in a day.

01.01.2022 Same rug from behind the loom. You can see the fine quality of the wool and how small and tight the knots are. A rug of this size will probably be sold to a mosque or a large hotel.

01.01.2022 Everyone here at RugWash would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for another great year and wish everybody a happy and safe holiday. We will close from 3.30 pm Friday 20th December 2019 and we will re-open at 7.00 am on Monday 6th January 2020.
