25.01.2022 Our charitable food program has increased from approximately 50 people per month to over 1200 per week since March. Care Beyond Cure.

25.01.2022 We are extremely pleased to announce that thanks to all of our partners support, we have purchased 2 new cars for R.A.H in Kolkata, India. The first car is for our existing home visit team to replace the old car that was over 12 years old. The 2nd car is for our newly formed 2nd home visit team! Thats right..... A doubling in our ability to provide Care Beyond Cure throughout a city of over 91 million people. We could not achieve this without your support and remember that all donations over $2 are fully tax deductible.

24.01.2022 Palliative care does make a difference to peoples lives. Heres proof! 2 photos of Mr Mazumder. He is 75 years old and suffering from advanced urinary bladder cancer. The first photo is on the day of our teams first home visit. We had to provide oxygen on that day, because he was suffering acute Cyanosis. He was in severe distress & almost comatose. The 2nd photo is 2 weeks later. Sitting up in his bed, having a discussion with our home visit team. It really shows the power of Care Beyond Cure.

18.01.2022 I want to tell you a story. Please read it carefully. This is happening right now! Listen to your own thoughts while you read this story.... This is a story about a young 18 year old. Who leaves their impoverished family in a rural village to get work 1300kms away in a big city. Finding work in a small street side food stall, next to one of the worlds largest slums. Earning just enough to feed & house themself and to send what little money is left, home to help feed the rest of their family. Accruing no annual leave, no sick pay and being paid at the end of each work day (Around $8 Australian dollars a day). There is no hope of any government support whatsoever in a crisis. One day the government announces a complete shutdown of the country, due to a Coronavirus pandemic sweeping the world. The restaurant is forced to close and they are sacked on the spot, with only one days wages in their pocket. Forced to move out of a tiny one room accomodation. There is no choice; either they sleep on the street & eventually starve to death or travel 1300kms back to their home. The countries entire population is given 4 hours notice about the total country shutdown. No planes, no trains, no buses. No transport of any type available. Carrying their worldly possessions, with no money, no food & no water; They must walk 1300kms home. For 15 days, walking 18 hours a day. Hiding from the authorities at night because of a 7pm to 7am curfew. Sleeping in hiding on the side of a road, exposed to the weather. Starving, having not eaten in almost 4 days. Their only hope of food is from the charity of complete strangers. Continuing the long walk home, unaware that a massive cyclone named Amphan is only a few hours away, with winds of over 220kms per hour, heading straight towards their location. Can you picture this? The sheer hopelessness & desperation? Now imagine that young person is your daughter, your son or your sister. Or YOU! That today, is the scenario for many. If you can give something, anything. Then now.... Right now is the time. 100% of all donations will make it on the ground in Kolkata,India. Our team is there now, right now. When it matters the most. Working tirelessly, saving lives, in the most desperate of circumstances for so many. Because its about "Care Beyond Cure".

18.01.2022 Below is an update on what Ruma Hospice is doing to help the poorest of the poor, trying to survive COVID-19. An impossible situation for so many living in poverty in India. India has been in lockdown for a while, however its only just shown up in Australian news. The situation there is that people cant get out to the shops. They are paid each day for the work they do that day. No work equals no pay. No Centrelink. No government help. No pay equals no food. They starve. Th...is is in place until mid April at the earliest! Given we have a vehicle with a flashing light on it, our small team is going out, to buy rice and distribute it to the poor in the area near the hospice. Your donations, your purchases of mangoes, sheep manure and all the other fund raising that you have supported, goes direct to those in need. Right now, when our food program is needed the most. Thankyou to all of you that have supported our small but vitally important charitable organisation. In times like these, we continue to provide Care Beyond Cure.

17.01.2022 With the world in a panic about crashing share markets, coronavirus and a lack of toilet paper in Woolworths. I hope you would all like to read the below, received from one of our Indian home visit teams..... "Today I visited Jayashree, one of our patient nearby. I took a bunch of flowers for her from our hospice garden. When I gave that to her she said thank you so much and also said If you dont mind can I say something?. I said yes you can. Then she said please take a... photograph of me and the kangaroo with the bunch of flowers, I want to send my love to everyone in Australia. Those who are sweating for my treatment. Please give my love to everyone, I may not live a long time, but I know they will remember this memory of me. This is for everyone who keeps supporting my treatment, I am so grateful for them. 14.01.2022 WOW, WOW, WOW & WOW! What an amazing response we have received, to this years Mango fundraising drive. From individual households, hospital staff, church groups, cricket clubs, even gardening clubs! Several thousand boxes of Mangoes have now been delivered throughout Western Australia over the past 3 weeks. Final deliveries are scheduled for next week. Our team has arrived safe back from the Kununnurra orchards and our Perth deliveries continue at full pace. On behalf of all our volunteers, a very big THANKYOU, to those of you that have purchased Mangoes this season from us. The funds raised will help us to continue to provide Care Beyond Cure to those living in poverty, suffering from terminal illnesses.

13.01.2022 Chloe Chapman, a registered nurse recently visited Ruma Abedona Hospice with Tobi White another registered nurse and Phil Heyhoe a great supporter of our work in India. Chloe shares her first home visit experience. "When we arrived at the home, there were people everywhere. The neighbours, children and family were all looking in the door and window watching what was happening. The man had his back to me. When he turned around, I was SHOCKED! His whole chin and some cheek were missing and his teeth sat there on their own. It overwhelmed me to see the loving, caring way that Meheli and the wound dressing worker cared for the man." Amidst the conditions of the Kolkata streets; the team at RAH continues to provide Care Beyond Cure for the terminally ill & those living in extreme poverty.

06.01.2022 We are delighted to report that thanks to the generousity of our donors; two new E.C.G (Electrocardiograph) machines have been purchased. They are now in full time use at the Kolkata hospice and by our home visit team. An E.C.G machine is a medical instrument used for detecting & diagnosing a variety of heart abnormalities. Without your ongoing support we could not continue to improve & expand our charitable medical programs, for those that cannot afford even basic medical care. Keep an eye out for our next couple of Facebook posts. There are some very exciting announcements coming soon, as we continue to strive to provide "Care Beyond Cure".

05.01.2022 As we continue to expand our mission to the sick, dying & poor, we welcome Tania Nandi to our Indian team. Tania is a registered nurse and was until recently working at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in Kolkata. We here in Australia, will be providing support & financing her specialist training to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care. Tania is one of only 2 registered nurses in our small but growing organisation. Her appointment will be a great help to Santanu & Meheli as they continue their lifes work in providing Care Beyond Cure.

01.01.2022 MIRACLES HAPPEN! We would like to introduce you to Trishita Shome, the newest member of our wonderful Indian Team. Trishita suffers from Cerebral Palsy. She is paralysed from the waist down & cannot speak properly. Despite her disability, Trishita has a masters degree in computer science. In India a person with a disability like Trishita’s has no hope of gaining employment. We invited Trishita to use her computing skills to help Ruma Hospice. Her family were overwhelmed, as ...they thought she would never get employment. But that’s not the miracle. Our President (Joan Grosser) was getting off a train in Perth when she saw a lady get on a train in an electric wheelchair. She spoke with Santanu in India the next day and asked what the possibility was of purchasing an electric wheelchair for Trishita. He was really surprised and told Joan that he did not think we could ever afford one but would make enquires and find out how much it would cost. Well to cut a long story short, the very next day a faithful Ruma Hospice supporter in Australia donated $5,000 for A Project Of Our Choice (Not every day expenses). A electric wheelchair has now been ordered from Bangalore in Southern India. We are all just blown away by this whole episode. MIRACLES DO HAPPEN! As we continue to provide - Care Beyond Cure. 01.01.2022 As we continue our Indian teams medical skills development program; we celebrate with Tania Nandi, (One of only two registered nurses in R.A.H) her completion of Pallium Indias "Certificate Course in Palliative Care". Presented by the esteemed Dr. M.R. Rajagopal. Another important milestone has been achieved, in our ongoing pursuit of providing "Care Beyond Cure" to the poor in Kolkata, India.
