21.01.2022 20/21 Season, All updates for the upcoming year. We are back at it, After a successful Rumble on the Reef Championships, its time to turn towards rebuilding aft...er a chaotic year. Below is key information going forward for our competitions and events going from now until Rumble 2021. Focuses for the season. 1. Fun. Its been a long year, we want to enjoy our time together going forward and reunite friends. 2. Wellbeing. Injury prevention, fatigue, social inclusion and skateboarders health is a bigger focus for the upcoming year. 3. Development and Sustainability. A larger focus on developing more people on the ground and running events economically to make sure they are sustainable for years to come. Types of Competition Previously a lot of competitions varied in size and shape. This year, they will divide further into 2 categories. Total Grassroots or Major events. With Covid Restrictions and safety measures, competitions will need to be low key events which do not require much infrastructure, or major events. The larger events will need fencing, security and contact tracing. These will only be at the major events which have a substantial budget to be able to bring in these requirements. Street Competition Format The format for all divisions will be as follows: Straight finals, one heat (unless a substantial volume in a division) 3 x 1 minute runs, and 3 x best trick. Top 3 scores count. After the 3 runs, the top 50% will go on to do the best trick section. If an uneven amount of competitors are in a heat, the additional competitor will go on to the best trick section. Benefits 1. The duration of the competition is much shorter. 2. Less chance of injury or heat exhaustion as not waiting so long between heats and finals. 3. Training to the format of Rumble and other major events going forward. 4. All Competitors get more runs on the park compared to the 2 runs heats scenario, while also running at a better time. Wellbeing The following changes have been made to improve skateboarder wellbeing in the upcoming season. 1. Helmets. Must be worn by anyone under 18 or you cannot compete. In bowl events with a bowl over 8ft, helmets must be worn by all competitors. 2. Structure. New competition formats will reduce time waiting around and spread injury. Competitions will try to have at least 2 weeks in between rounds where possible. 3. Timing. where possible, competitions will be run at nighttime, and daytime competitions will choose times that a) the heat is not too drastic and b) allows people time to travel safely to and from the competition. 4. Insurance. The new registration system helps people get cover for themselves during the events, everyone who competed at Rumble has this cover for the whole season. 5. COVID. If any staff have flu-like symptoms, they are asked to remain home from the events. 6. Concussion. Skateboarding events don't have on site Doctors available to assess head injuries. Its can be difficult for first aid people to do a full head injury assessment, so as a precaution any headknock that looks dangerous officials will be making a decision to have the competitor sit out the rest of the competition. Regional City Programming Since COVID 19, skateboarding programs that have started have been hugely popular and have waitlists in a number of areas. While regional programs have started up, they have been relatively quiet. A planned approach for regional cities is to have 1 event a year, which includes coaching, competition, and other activations as ongoing coaching programs have difficulties in regional cities. Skateboarding Industry Issues The Global shortage of skateboarding equipment, especially in Australia since the pandemic, is still current and still a headache and will be for a while to come. Prizes for junior divisions will be in the form of vouchers, until the industry starts to stabilize and brands are able to allocate stock. Prize Money in Open / Women's Prize money will still be available wherever possible at most if not all events for the upcoming season. Some of the rules around prize money are: 1. It must be a competition. Prize money cannot be issued to a division where last place can receive funds. eg if it pays down to 3rd place, and there is only 3 in the competition. for it to be a competition prize money would only pay down to 1st or second. 2. What happens to prize money if there is a shortage of competitors? If the lower placings are taken away to keep the competition competitive, (eg only paying to second), the following system applies: i) Open Mixed. Leftover prize money will go into the kitty to top up other events during the year. ii) Womens. If the Womens division does not have the numbers to do a full payout of placings, the funding is allocated to an intermediate girls development fund. This money is to support girls who are close to being in opens but need support. This will close the gap on participation sooner to the point where its no longer an issue. How this money is distributed will be decided by a panel of females in the industry. Development and Teething. COVID has hit skateboarding pretty hard, and rebuilding has to not just be done to where it was but to plan for the future. This next year, we are aiming to develop a lot of new judges, MCs, Admin, Coaches, and other roles to build capability so more things can happen. You will probably experience new judges, staff, and people along the road, we ask you to be patient with them, as having them involved is going to improve skateboarding for a long time to come. You can view upcoming competitions at https://members.australianskateboarding.com//2836662/events Lets go!

13.01.2022 We had the pleasure of testing out the new Rumble @isuzuute_aus MUX from @nq_cartruckrentals at the Somerset Open on the weekend. It has 200 amp hours of power... to run events for days thanks to @slizfrank and his electrical work as well as wireless transmission for sound up to 200m. Kerry Fraser built the interior to house all our gear and still fit all the staff in. @tjsdetailing did all the cleanup work to make it looking like new and @rkscustoms made the vinyl decals which are prime. @roofracksgalore finished it off with a pull out awning and racks to make setup easy! This vehicle up and going will make it easier to get out to more communities and run skateboarding events. Stoked!
