22.01.2022 Happy Global Running Day Melbourne. . . To honour such a glorious day we thought we would share a video demonstrating what can be achieved with some running retraining, with the help of one of our legendary RunFixers. . . Running injuries are multifaceted, and running technique can play a large role in understanding why someone has got injured and what can be modified to resolve the injury. .... . Here, our RunFixer had developed some ankle pain, so we were keen to see how he was landing to understand if the ankle might be exposed to excess / unnecessary force. . . As you can see he is over-striding. This is when the initial contact with the ground is in front of your centre of mass. . . For more information on over-striding check out Coach Dave’s blog. Link in bio. . . A contributor to this over-stride we can see is a low hip drive. . . For effective hip drive we want to see a combination of Hip and Knee Flexion through the swing phase, which our RunFixer is demonstrating that perfectly! . . Goodbye over-stride! . . by improving the hip drive we have created a much better landing position within his centre of mass!. . . This will take practice, like any new skill, to be able to perfect and to maintain through longer runs, and should also be accompanied by a strength program to target the key muscles groups that are contributing to this movement. . . Sadly there is no simple answer to this question, running injuries have more contributing factors than times you’ve washed your hands over the last few months! .... . BUT... this graphic really blew my mind when I first saw it... not simply because of the majestic runner galloping effortlessly through the Victorian countryside. (sadly pre-dates #manbun) . .
