Over the past 12 months I’ve helped athletes get fitter and faster, overcome injuries and build towards their target events. I’ve helped people to improve their mobility, and to walk and run more efficiently. I’ve fitted numerous pairs of shoes and orthotics, run countless kms by myself and while coaching others, and I’ve tickled many many feet. We were able to experiment with shoe-lacing trial, and a few different cues whilst running at variable pace. It’s really beneficial to rotate through multiple different pairs of shoes, for a number of reasons, including increasing their lifespan, and reducing your injury risk. Below are some reasons why, and great evidence to justify your additional shoe purchases to a non-athlete: ... 1) Shoes get tired just like we do, so giving your shoes a break between sessions is really important - particularly if you’re doing lots of mileage, running on consecutive days or doing double run days. 2) Different shoes will place different load on your feet, legs and body. Because running is so repetitive, even a subtle change can help to reduce overload and the risk of overuse injuries. 3) Shoe design and suitability is targeted towards particular types of running, so doing your different sessions in different shoes is a great way to rotate through your collection.
