25.01.2022 The Many Different Categories of Men's Sheds. Whilst it is common to find that people's perceptions of the activities of a Men's Shed are just a place where old men muck around with tools and stuff, the truth you would find is that, almost every Men’s Shed has its own unique aims and goals. Many are really as expected in the name of the shed and often focus on certain agreed subjects for activities inside such as woodwork, metalwork, restorations, construction, small repairs ...etc. Men’s Sheds can quite often be defined into five or six main activities or functional categories. These categories are defined as working, clinical, communal, recreational, educational, and virtual. 1/ Working Sheds are for those who want to remain active, use tools and equipment to repair or construct, and have an overall goal in mind. These working sheds focus heavily on restoration and construction, while still helping the local community. 2/ Clinical and Communal Sheds have similar features, with the core of their aims focused on helping the local male community interact and discuss their health and wellbeing. 3/ Recreational Men's Sheds are created to help promote more social activities in the local area. 4/ Educational Sheds are aimed at improving skills and qualities and many popular educational Sheds are based around a certain skill, such as cooking. 5/ Virtual Sheds provide an online capability where members from all types of men's sheds and other remote communities across the country or around the world can actively communicate and be involved in numerous research, writing, media, and photographic activities. In many ways, all these types of Men’s Sheds can be seen as extension of the original 19th-century idea of working men's clubs in the UK and Australia. All of them are valuable resources then and now: "to provide recreation and education for working-class men and their families" and then followed on by returned soldiers of the early 20th century that exist today. Over time, working men's and returned services clubs focused increasingly on recreational activities, the support of both injured and active men with the addition of the much needed charitable work and in fact, whilst most people's sheds remained at the bottom of their garden at home.

24.01.2022 Today, a local fella named Garry Watts invited us to gather some compost worms, worm eggs, worm castings and to gather an understanding of his proven methods for worm farming. Garry has an exceptional collection of Orchids and Clivia plants that he uses the worm tea and other nutrients for.. https://www.facebook.com/groups/24876564345957/... The idea is that we ay add compost worms to the community compost bins and also learn how to develop our own small modular worm farms for all manner of wors such as common earthworms, garden worms, compost worms, and even bait worms for sale or personal use here fishing the streams and lakes. This afternoon has been interesting in as much as we have been discovering the different paid and free options that we might assemble to create some easy care and simply made worm farm options. The first real attempt will be undertaken this afternoon where we will be assembling a small starter farm using 20-litre oil drums that are empty, black in colour and have to be washed out with a degreaser and presser washer. The idea is that these will be cut and drilled and put together to assemble a few multi-layers of manure, compost and coir materials for the various ages of worms to dwell in. There need to be holes in the bottom of the layer decks (other than the base) for the worms to travel up and down inside and the base is really a storage area for all the liquids and water to gather to be drained off for garden beds and compost bins in a dilution as required. There will be 3 or 4 layers od differed developed eggs and worms with the top layer the place where food scraps and other balance nutrients can be added along with water to keep it all moist. There will be a hessian and cardboard layer to assist the worms to keep moist and the whole farm keeps cool and thrives as a sort of living organism. The idea is to make these modular and easy to make from reusing discarded drums that generally are found at the tip for free. Anyway, there will be photos and info to be shared and if you have an interest in worms and farming them for a hobby, take a look at Garry Watts orchid page..

19.01.2022 This morning I have been reviewing many of the founding documents created when we were in our first year.. With the support of the committee, our few patrons, a number of willing Associations, benevolent sponsors, and of course, our members, we managed to commence a large number of active groups. Sadly after the death of Bernice Edwards (Past Vice President) in 2016 and many of our members and supporters moving away or losing jobs and then winding up leaving our former meeti...Continue reading

18.01.2022 Yesterday, I had the pleasure of enlightening a local man that felt that the Rupanyup Men's Shed Inc should not exist and was not shown as being a member of the general peak organisations that reports that it represented all Men's Shed's in Australia. He was shocked to find that the information he was sure of was actually very much wrong in as much as there are Associations like ours that operate as totally independent of any other similar organisation. As we choose to be sel...Continue reading

15.01.2022 A top story from Freddy Harte in Ireland

11.01.2022 Over many years, we have had the honour to meet real pioneers and groundbreaking people. You know them when you meet them as every fibre in their bodies screams out for a way to find innovation, purpose, and meaning so that their world and our world can thrive and grow. One such person, I have had the pleasure of knowing and being in daily communication with is Peter Sergeant.... Peter, if you also do not recognize his name or know of him was the founder of Mensheds Australia. He was a powerhouse, along with other men, that developed the concept of Men's Sheds and grew them in Australia before other interests and other men with less vision decided they could do better. Whilst Peter was sent to the bin there, he established a better and more polished business mentoring, and in doing so, also supporting businesses all over the world. He owns and operates FAQ Support Pty Ltd and they have been supporting me with motivational and inspiration materials since I was able to rub emails with Peter regarding this, our Men's Shed. Here is just part of one article that I received today and it is just one of the emails that FAQ Support and Peter, personally sends me each and every day. .............................................. Entrepreneurs are not necessary, nor is survival.? Entrepreneurs are unique in many ways and can have a profound impact on the success of any organisation or project. Here a few characteristics: Entrepreneurs are creative problem solvers, they can join up the dots. Money isn’t the driving force behind an entrepreneur's motivation. Entrepreneurs are visionary, being quick to see opportunities. They master failure. When entrepreneurs fail, they learn and become stronger. Entrepreneurs are constantly learning, always challenging, and changing. They are fearless and dare to walk alone. Entrepreneurs make things happen, as they bring ideas and opportunities to life. They are moved by their passions and beliefs, no matter the price. They are doers. They focus on the vision and get going. Entrepreneurs tend to lead and inspire others with their plans and projects. They often seem a little irrational to non-entrepreneurs. An entrepreneur can be impatient if you want to do it, do it now. If you don’t, you’re going to regret it. ............................................................ I think Peter has captured the information in this article and it presents the ideals that we might look for and recognise in others and most importantly, in ourselves.. Thanks for the inspiration and support, my friend, Peter Sergeant.. https://www.facebook.com/peter.sergeant.520
