09.01.2022 SAVE LIVE MUSIC - BECOME A PIRATE! Seriously though, the current Lock out Laws and ridiculous volume restrictions placed on venues are scaring me :( Firstly I... want to acknowledge that this isn't a black or white argument, I know people who have suffered horribly due to alcoholic violence and I understand when music volume is taken over the top. I am not taking the 'outliers' and minorities into account when I say I believe the general population are being punished for individual accounts of reckless stupidity (to put it mildly). But seriously - enough is enough! Simply, there are more people 'out' between 11pm-3am then there are between 3am-5am. Wouldn't it make sense to stagger the traffic of people getting kicked out of venues - and perhaps allow the VENUES a small amount of control with this? From personal experience of heading home after a show - I see far more fights and disorderly behaviour erupt because literally EVERYONE gets booted out at the same time. Onto the street with nowhere to go but home. Trying to get a taxi takes forever! so they wander around or get bored and pick fights. On the music volume front it gets more personal to me. Think of how many AMAZING VENUES you know of who have been shut down simply by ridiculous volume restrictions being enforced. Just to elaborate, MANY city venues have a restriction of 75db. To give you an idea - that is my loud talking / singing volume (not event belting out) UN-AMPLIFIED! It sounds like a fine level if we were all quite and at home, but add that to the chatter of a bar and you have almost literally nothing. I can hear passing cars over my own guitar sound this is freaking ridiculous. Now I'm not saying we need high levels, just something that suits the atmosphere of the venue - ALONGSIDE THIS I believe the venues should take a hard hit of responsibility to ensure some acoustic treatment be obtained so as to absorb some of the noise from travelling outside and into the neighbourhood. HHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAA. sigh sorry for the long novel - just something I had to get off my chest. :) Love you guys!! CW. #lockoutlaws #noise #musicvolume #venues #livemusic #itsajoke
