25.01.2022 I thought I'd share this spectacular Jabiru couple, perched high on top of a Grevillea Striata, sadly completely covered in rubber vine. Yesterday was the first time I've seen them both, I have been watching them build this nest as I pass it each morning on my way to work. The rest of the photos were taken at Tyto Wetlands this afternoon on our way home from a northern trip. How many birds can you spot in the last photo? Australian Native Plant Enthusiasts
24.01.2022 Took part in the Wild Pollinator count yesterday, tougher than one realises when you have to stand and watch one plant or flower for 10 minutes and count all creatures great and small who visit said plant. I counted 13, mostly beetles but a few other interesting creatures. :-)
21.01.2022 My new favourite spot for some R & R. Our back verandah and my double hammock.
20.01.2022 Always have your camera ready, you never know what you will find. The humans in the photos were just to show you how big the eucalyptus bloodwood are and our guesstimate of their age is between 200 to 300 years old. There are 5 really big ones plus a lot of other babies, they're probably only 100 years old. Ian is beside a very old and very healthy ironbark.
19.01.2022 Butterflies are such beautiful creatures but very difficult to photograph as is evidenced by the last photo, it is the flower where the butterfly was!!
17.01.2022 Hi all, our property now has its very own FB page and I would really appreciate it, if you could all share it for me, far and wide would be marvellous.
17.01.2022 Pretty excited, 2 trees found on our property have been identified, Ventilago viminalis and Acacia salicina. Thanks to the work of botanists from the Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare group - both specimens are being kept and incorporated into the Queensland Herbarium collection. Now how many of you have that to skite about :-)
17.01.2022 Thanks Christine, Carole and Beth, Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc for your visit today. It is amazing what you find on our property, it may look dry and barren but don't be fooled. These amazing ladies found more exciting flora (which I now have to keep an eye out for seeds) over the 3 hours wandering over some of the block.
15.01.2022 This is a small taste of the birdlife seen on this property, the list is quite lengthy and includes from the very regal Wedge Tail Eagles and other birds of prey, sulphur crested cockatoos, red-tailed black cockatoos down to the little seed eaters such a double bar finches and olive-backed sunbirds and all sizes in between.
11.01.2022 A lovely walk to our creek, lots of aquatic plants. Here's just a taste. I've attempted to duplicate this in a former bird bath so I've either condemned them (as they hide under the surface each dry season to re-emerge each wet season) or I've prolonged their time above ground. I hope the latter. :-)
10.01.2022 Not a bad view when recuperating. Another beautiful winter's day in paradise.
10.01.2022 Well, my 18 birds are part of this count. :-)
10.01.2022 Good morning everyone. I hope all is well in your world. We've had some small renovations to the farmhouse. The "office" is now officially a bedroom with built in robes so we now have a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home. Can I ask all my friends to like and share our page. PM me if you need to know anything in particular.
08.01.2022 Let's play a guessing game. Without looking it up on Google, would you know what this plant is? Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc ladies, you can't answer because you all know. I was extremely surprised when I found out. These are growing in abundance in our creek.
05.01.2022 Thank you Queensland Signage Solutions for our wonderful property sign. The PIC [Property Identification Code] sign will stay with the new owners (whoever they may be) but the HRH sign will be our new shingle at our new home. And what a difference magical rain makes. Look at all that grass!
04.01.2022 Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc - getting a visit from the amazing ladies from CDTL on Sunday to collect seeds for their nursery. Looking forward to having morning tea with the ladies. :-)
03.01.2022 I'm so excited. Joined Landcare and I now get to volunteer at Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc bush nursery. BTW, it is open to the public between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on a Friday. Local Townsvilleans (love that word!), you should get yourself there to support the amazing work that this group does. Plus you get to purchase tough, local plants.
02.01.2022 After delivering horse poo to the Landcare Bush nursery, my husband sent me this photo. This little beauty is the Ventilago viminalis which has been grown from seeds collected from our property. The tree is beautiful and starts life as a vine until it is big enough to support itself. Pretty happy to know that locals can have this tree as part of their indigenous gardens.
