14.05.2022 Our hearts go out to the people of WA in the wake of ex-Tropical Cyclone Seroja, and hope all those affected stay safe and continue to follow the advice of local authorities and emergency services.

24.04.2022 Meet the crop team Coming in hot from a background in graphic design this new addition to the team is taking big strides in crop underwriting and is the reason why our Instagram now has some spice to it. You have probably spoken to her on the phone during crop season - or maybe that was the other Sophie? oh well! It was one of them haha The key giveaway is the British accent for this pommy Queen so keep your ears peeled and don’t be afraid to send through a large crop quo...te prop just for her to manually input - she loves it! Hobbies include insuring crops, drinking margaritas and being short #ruralinsurance #underwriting #insurance #cropinsurance #cropseason #wheatcrops

21.01.2022 Last week 3 Rural Affinity staff members travelled out to Tottenham, NSW to help out with the harvest. Jess, Lisa and Sarah spent the day carting grain to the silo, cruising around in the chaser bin and even had a crack at driving the header. A massive thank you to Greg Radford, Max, Ron and Richard for their time (and patience!) and to Rose Martin for her lovely hospitality. It was bloody hot and bloody good fun.

02.01.2022 HAYSTACKS HEAT UP Farmers are reminded to keep a close eye on their hay sheds, in particular, bales that were made from drought stressed crops.... Several haystack fires have been reported this bush fire season. NSW Department of Primary Industries research officer John Piltz said drought stressed crops can be wetter than they appear and also have a higher sugar content which can lead to combustion. "We are noticing the sugar levels in drought stressed cereal crops is much higher this season at about 30pc of the dry matter, usually its 15pc," Mr Piltz said. "Sugar is what breaks down and causes the heat, so that mixed with moisture is a potential disaster waiting to happen," he said. Mr Piltz said it was important hay did not get wet again once it was baled. NSW Rural Fire Service has this advice on storing hay: - Check that hay has dried or cured sufficiently before baling. - Insert a metal rod or stake into the hay, if the rod or stake comes out hot, you may have a problem. - Reduce the fire risk by ensuring hay is stored in several locations on your property. - Dont store machinery close to haystacks. - Mow and maintain firebreaks around your stored haystacks.
