25.01.2022 Myanmars Election does not include the Rohingya , ABC News 6.11.20 While all eyes have been glued to the United States, Perth resident Khin Myo Myint has been a...nxiously watching the lead-up to another election much closer to home. Key points: Aung San Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy party are expected to remain in power The election has been criticised as "fundamentally flawed" because of censorship and misinformation Myanmar is also struggling with a dramatic increase in COVID-19 cases Myanmar is set to vote on Sunday it's just the second democratic election for the South-East Asian nation since the end of military rule in 2011. But not everyone will have their say. Voting has been cancelled in large swathes of conflict-riddled Rakhine and Shan states, disenfranchising some 1.2 million voters. In the months leading up to the November 8 vote, the election has been criticised by Human Rights Watch as "fundamentally flawed", with some ethnic candidates blocked from running, media censorship and misinformation running rife on social media.
25.01.2022 It feels as though we are dead and we don’t matter, Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims are excluded from voting in Myanmar election. Full story https://aje.io/lgnpu
24.01.2022 Demonising asylum seekers and refugees for political gain is one of the coalition’s favourite pass times, and using the threat of us inflicting harm on children... is their signature move. In 2001, asylum seekers were accused of throwing children over board and almost 20 years later in 2020 refugees are accused of being pedophiles. Successive coalition governments have attempted to convince the Australian people that refugees are less than human, it makes it easier to justify the abuses they inflict on us. They are going to confiscate our phones and that will disconnect us from our family and friends and limit our legal support. We have been separated from humanity, from our family, from our loved ones. They are trying to take our identities away further by taking our phones. With no other stimulation in this prison, our phones are a lifeline, we need them to stay sane! This legislation is not about protecting children, it’s about demonising asylum seekers and refugees. It’s about driving fear and division in Australian society. It’s about the government trying to escape accountability. Hatred, fear and separation are not the answer. This regime of torture and the slander associated with it must stop. #ShameAlanTudge #NoPhonesNoLife

19.01.2022 Looks like it's all down to Jacqui Lambie. If you are able please contact her office and ask her to vote against the government's bill.
18.01.2022 Crowding is certainly an issue within the detention system, and urgent action is needed to reduce the threat of a COVID-19 outbreak. Reopening the Christmas Is...land detention facility, however, is not the solution. Safer, more humane and more fiscally responsible alternatives exist, writes Dr Michelle Peterie. https://overland.org.au//the-true-cost-of-reopening-the-c/ #SafeSettlementNow
12.01.2022 Today I had a reunion and birthday party for the "Old Boys" who were refugees from Vietnam and Cambodia. It was for a 60 year old. I was the director/house fath...er for the Hy-Vong community. The boys went to Chevalier College. It was great to hear how well the "boys" have done. The level of trust amongst us is so high, almost as high as the humour. These boys had a chance all refugees should have. They are now great Australians and great family people. They came from far away to the Bundanoon Club today. Such a pleasant time. See more
11.01.2022 This is an important change. Thank you to RACS, RCOA, and all the groups who pressured for this small concession. RARsh lobbied Steven Jones MP on this issue earlier this year, so it's good to know one way or another our voices are heard. Keep up the pressure everyone for #PermanentNotTemporaryProtection

09.01.2022 Thank you to Guardian & the brave people who speak about cruelty meted out by Australia to those famously labelled "the legacy caseload" . Everyday we see a struggle to survive & never-ending uncertainty of domicile. Permanent not Temporary protection
08.01.2022 Internal pain is more unbearable than physical wounds, having anxiety, PTSD and stress is so painful sometimes you hate your own life and thinking the only way ...to end the pain is by taking your life, it is much worse when the depression is caused by a situation and you are helpless and can't do anything to change your situation, our depression is caused by this indefinite detention that we are in for 8 years, we don't know what is our crime to deserve all this damage, they destroyed us mentally and we became empty skeleton, we struggle with our own life on daily basis, we are on fight with ourselves everyday to continue while the life itself telling us it is time to quit and can't take this pain no more. How they can sleep peace at night when they know they locked up innocent people without crime for 8 years, when they know they destroyed lives, they are so heartless and inhumane. See more

06.01.2022 Right now, Peter Dutton is trying to change our laws so he can take mobile phones away from Priya and others who have come to our shores seeking peace and safet...y. If he succeeds, he'll be able to hide the two QLD-born kids he is keeping in detention from Australians. Only our Senators can stop him. Today, will you tap bit.ly/EmailSenators and send a polite, respectful e-mail to your Senators in your own words? Please ask them stop Peter Dutton taking mobile phones away from Priya and others like her.
05.01.2022 Tonight at 8pm on the ABC
04.01.2022 These legends in the House of Representatives voted AGAINST the prohibited items / Phone Ban Bill. Thank you to each. You show clearly that you grasp the nature of human rights.
