21.01.2022 Dr Maria Cigolini, the director of RPA Hospital's palliative care unit, is speaking at our Rural Doctor seminar. She says that the average GP will see about 20 deaths a year as part of their workload, with most rural GPs seeing a higher number. Dr Cigolini says that 85% of Australians die from chronic illness and after an increase in ill health over their last few days or months of life.

11.01.2022 While kangaroos hopped by his office window, new Rural Doctors Association Australia president, Dr Ewen McPhee, took some time out of his busy schedule to speak with Rural Doctor on a number of key issues affecting rural practitioners. "We’re seeing these young doctors moving to rural primary care practices but they’re also very competent and confident, and they wish to be there," Dr McPhee says of the success of Queensland's Rural Generalist Pathway program. "I absolutely cannot see any reason why we shouldn’t be pushing for similar programs right across Australia."

08.01.2022 A West Australian GP obstetrician has been reprimanded over the birth of a stillborn child at Rockingham Hospital late last year. Dr Ross Douglas Jose, who has been in practice since 1991, will now need to be supervised and has been placed under strict practice guidelines by the Medical Board for the next 14 months.

The agency's annual report this year highlights the case of two recently arrived IMG doctors recruited by a corporate practice who ended up billing for more than 1000 GP management plans in the space of just 12 months. When questioned by the agency, one of the doctors said he was told by senior management at the clinic to "do more care plans" to bring in extra revenue.
