25.01.2022 Something big is on the horizon for Rural Health Connect. Our new and improved software will be launching early in the new year. This year we have connected hundreds of people, many in very remote locations, to psychologists. We have learned a lot along the way- about things like coding, data storage, encryption; and a whole host of other things foreign to us a few years ago. We have also listened - to clients, psychologists, GPs, stakeholders, and anyone else. Not only about what they need, but what they want, to deliver psychology sessions that are innovative, engaging, reliable and easy through this new delivery method of telehealth. The results are on the way - and we can’t wait to show you.
25.01.2022 Most of us know someone who is struggling at the moment.. Maybe that person is you? You can do free (bulk billed) sessions with a psychologist via video call or phone call. You just need a mental health care plan from your GP. www.ruralhealthconnect.com.au Start the conversation... 23.01.2022 After the bushfires at the beginning of this year, the federal government put in place an unprecedented way for people to access psychologists. No GP referral or mental health care plan is needed for anyone whose mental health was impacted by the fires. It means that it is possible to book straight into a psychologist without any additional appointments - to start the process of feeling better. ... And if the psychologist bulk bills, it means there is no cost. Many people do not realise that this is available. If you would like more information on this, Rural Health Connect is here to help - please reach out.
22.01.2022 "We all leave a mark on the world in some small way. When out in the Willandra Lakes area I felt truly honoured to see the marks left by others so many millennia ago. These hands are reaching out through the ages, and I felt connected to them through my work. I want to catch the essence of our country through photography as my mark on the world, I can never be as powerful as the mark left by our First People. It's not just handprints on rocks, its history, culture and some ...ancient energy- a presence still there on the rocks that draws you to it. It communicates so much through a simple multicultural language." - Michael Parfitt | Dusty Fox Photography In celebration of NAIDOC week, rural photographer Michael Parfitt shared with us this remarkable photo taken at Willandra Lakes NSW. We welcome the opportunity to pay particular tribute to our First Nations peoples, culture and history #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe You can find more of Michael's stunning work over on Instagram www.instagram.com/dustyfoxphotography/

16.01.2022 SECURE YOUR TICKET BELOW! Say G’day to tomorrow nights webinar guest and Mental Mates Inc. founder, Dylan Lewis. Awarded Katherine Citizen of the Year in 2017, Dylan Lewis is a qualified diesel mechanic and a qualified Mental Health First Aider.... The story of Dylan & Mental Mates kicked off in 2015 after Dylan sent a call out to the Katherine community, to join in helping mates build their skills to help a mate who might be at risk of suicide. Inspired by Dylan’s efforts and the story of Mental Mates, Australian Red Cross and the Katherine West Health Board provided trained volunteers to deliver Aboriginal and Standard Mental Health First Aid Training. Wesley Mission, the Camels and other Katherine businesses put forward money to help promote these efforts, while YMCA paid to have staff trained to deliver Safe Talk. Dylan’s passion and personal story highlights how first and foremost, it is mates that help mates and it is mates, that are there in a person’s greatest hour of need - it is mates who can make the difference. Join Rural Health Connect and Australian Women in Agriculture tomorrow night as they talk with Dylan, about suicide prevention and how to approach those you’re worried about. 16.01.2022 Rural Health Connect welcomes the Federal Government’s announcement yesterday that it would increase the number of sessions with a psychologist subsidised under Medicare, for anyone in regions impacted by the second wave of COVID-19. People in these areas will be able to receive an additional 10 sessions on top of the initial 10, under a mental health care plan from their GP. These are unprecedented times and the impacts one people’s mental health will be felt for a long t...ime to come. It is vital that people can access support without the added concern of it running out when they need it most. Psychologists have spent many years learning techniques that can help you feel and cope better during stressful times. Ask your GP to fax your mental health care plan to the number our website and we will call you to book in your first appointment. #psychologist #mentalhealth #ruralaustralia See more
16.01.2022 We could not support this call more. We want to make it clear that rural Australians will continue to be able to access Medicare support for psychology sessions done by telehealth as this support is locked in. However there is much uncertainty for anyone who lives in a major town or city - with special COVID-19 related Medicare support still due to dry up at the end of September - and no word from the Government on whether they will continue. For the last couple of months we have had to tell anyone in a city that wants to use our service that their Medicare support may not continue. And this affects their willingness and abilty to seek help. Now is not the time to be adding any barriers to accessing potentially life saving mental health support. https://www.theage.com.au//push-for-medicare-telehealth-ex
16.01.2022 In 2015 Dylan Lewis sent a call our to the community, to join him and the Brahmans Football Team in helping their mates build their skills to help a mate who might be at risk of suicide. The community responded and Dylan began the journey, with support of community members, sporting members, businesses and organisations, to build the skills of our community to stop suicide. During the period Jan to Dec 2016, more than 275 people in the Katherine Region, received training on h...ow to respond and support someone who was at risk of suicide. Since it’s inception 5 years ago, Mental Mates Inc. has now trained around 800 people - free of charge. Throughout the year, Mental Mates offers different forms of mental health workshops to aid in suicide support and suicide prevention - all short courses are delivered at a low fee or free of charge. On August 27, join Rural Health Connect & Australian Women in Agriculture as they talk suicide prevention and how to approach those you’re worried about, with Mental Mates founder Dylan Lewis. 15.01.2022 In Bairnsdale today meeting with Victorian Parliamentary Secretary, Steve Dimopoulos and 11 year old Cooper. Thanks to Cooper, the little champion, who took some time out of school to discuss his experiences using Rural Health Connect. And thanks to the Victorian Government for supporting our efforts to support rural Australians, in this instance rural Victorians impacted by bushfire. Remember Medicare subsidised sessions are available to anyone whose mental health was negatively impacted by bushfire, with no GP referral necessary, via our service. Also in this pic, on the computer screen, is the wonderful psychologist Sharon Varela based in Longreach QLD but a regular supporter of Victorians impacted by bushfire via RHC. 15.01.2022 Our new slogan and something we are passionate about - not only because we love talking. At Rural Health Connect we want to encourage the starting of many new conversations. Starting a conversation with a psychologist can help you identify which thoughts and actions are positive in your life and which are negative - and give you strategies to nurture the positive and discard what is not helping you. We also want to start many conversations around mental health. Stigma s...till exists in our society- although we have observed that in many instances the person applying the most pressure to snap out of it is ourselves. The more we can normalise conversations around mental health the easier it will be for anyone to recognise they need help and to take that first step to get it. And the more supported they will feel to do so. Tonight we will be launching a video that speaks a bit more about our purpose. Please check it out. #starttheconversation #mentalhealth #psychology #ruralaustralia See more

14.01.2022 This is great news... While rebates for telehealth to rural areas were secure, it is great to be able to continue offering these vital services to people in cities too. Well done to the AAPi for all of the great work they do.
12.01.2022 "The Dawn of a new day is always full of promise. Add to that the romance of the landscape, wide, huge skies, the dusty outback, and some corrugated iron and empty sheep pens, and you're set up for all sorts of possibilities. The mornings seem to wash radiance over the setting and it feels alive and beautiful" - Michael Parfitt | Dusty Fox Photography A big thank you to the wonderful Michael Parfitt over at Dusty Fox Photography for the truly beautiful photo and words depicting rural Aus. 12.01.2022 An important question to ask: at any time but especially at the moment. Also important, is knowing what to say next. Dylan Lewis from Mental Mates spoke at our webinar on suicide prevention recently and said, it is good to ask are you OK? If they say no what do you say? That conversation can go over weeks to get people to have the confidence to seek help. The line I use most now in that situation is, mate we can talk about things now and that might help a little bit bit if ...it is not fixing it then you need to speak to someone who can help retrain your brain - and I am not that person. I am a mechanic, I don’t know how to give you cognitive therapy... I suppose it is making them realise that you don’t have to sort everything out yourself and that having anxiety or depression can be as common as having the flu. We will post a full recording of Dylan’s raw and incredibly helpful speech tonight.
12.01.2022 Who can relate...?
10.01.2022 TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT! 7:30pm Last chance to secure your spot for tonight’s webinar with Mental Mates Inc. founder, Dylan Lewis.... We can’t wait to see you there!

09.01.2022 Anyone who lives in rural Australia knows it normally involves plenty of driving. But if you are attending regular sessions with a psychologist the driving can quickly add up. Those hours on the road can mean lost productive time, lost money and, ironically, can increase stress. Rural Health Connect is all about removing barriers to seeking help. Through our platform you can book your sessions with a psychologist and do the sessions over video call, meaning it can easily fit with busy lives. #ruralhealth #ruralaustralia #mentalhealth

05.01.2022 After a bushfire there is the physical process of recovery- repairing and replacing buildings, fences, stock and other things that can be replaced. There is also the emotional recovery- processing all that has happened. Sue McMahon lost her house in the Bunyip fires 18 months ago. She shared her experiences with us, in the hope that it may help some people still in the thick of rebuilding following on from the bushfires last summer. Thank you Sue
