Hay, silage or grain contaminated with fireweed plants or seeds can poison livestock. Fireweed comes from southeast Africa. It was first seen in the Hunter Valley in 1918. Fireweed thrives in: * overgrazed pastures * disturbed or cultivated soil * most soil types. If you don’t have fireweed, that’s good and you want to keep it that way. Healthy paddocks with winter and summer ground cover helps to prevent fireweed. Also, good ground cover is control tool you can use to outcompete fireweed as part of an integrated control program. Effective control of fireweed is a long-term plan which needs to consider a numerus aspects to do with fireweeds growth patterns and health of your paddocks. The land is just under 5 acres and has magnificent views over bush valley which stretches to the horizon and as far as the eye can see. Mostly bush on the block but with a few cleared sections.
