24.01.2022 HARD TRUTHS! Apologies about the rant, for the most part I'm happy for society to make their own decisions. However this NEEDS to be said.... We know people often think we are a bit batty for the lifestyle we have chosen. We did it because we wanted low debt and higher level of personal reliance. Through any future difficult times, I will be able to feed my family. Without the supermarket. We're not preppers, we're really not that cool. I bulk buy, to prevent overspending and having to waste my life going to the supermarket. We make bread, so it's there when we need it and we grow food to save us money and to encourage healthy eating. This is not a life for everyone, and I fully support that. We need versatility to run a community. However! Since starting to sell our own produce at the local Albury Wodonga Farmers Market, I've come to realise how little our town is supporting it's own incredible farming community. I'm small fry, so it doesn't really impact me, but many people earn their living selling what they produce. When the chain is broken and the large supermarkets can no longer feed you, you will be supported by your local farming community. BUT GUESS WHAT! We are not going to have the supply for you, because the demand hasn't been created! It will take time for it to build. The small amount of wonderful people visiting our farmers market isn't good enough. It should be the towns main shopping hub, a link to food that isn't as easily broken. Many complaints I hear is that it's too expensive. Well let me nut this out for you. That $5 coffee could get you a bag of Tomatoes, it will last longer then 5 mins. That $10 bottle of wine, could get you the most amazing bacon. That becomes a part of a meal, not the entire thing. That $30 you spent through maccas with get you two weeks of fruit and veg. Your waste will be less You will spend less because you are not tempted by unnecessary food. You will eat healthier and learn to cook seasonally, requiring less medical interventions. You will gain a sense of community when you meet with and chat to the farmers who produce your food and catch up with friends. You will start the weekend off right with the sun and the fresh air. And often get to listen to live music while you shop. You are supporting a low impact way of farming, that prides itself in quality and care. And often you will find, we are not more expensive with the same quality products as the shops. This won't be the last instance that will effect our economy, and it's time we take back a bit of control. #supportlocal Can't make the Saturday farmers market. Contact the farmer directly and make a transaction. Or help us build to the point we have a mid week market. Hope to see you in the community. Congratulations on making it this far! That was tough I know! Please don't vist if you sick. Wash your hands regularly Please don't touch food your not buying Bring your produce bags Bring your coffee cup See you Saturday at the market.

21.01.2022 We are extremely humbled by the incredible support we have received over the recent weeks. Early industry estimates are that 10,000 hives have been lost in the ...recent bushfires. With so much at stake in terms of food security, a long term holistic view on how to support beekeepers, honeybee populations and native pollinators is required. Australia’s only registered charity for bees, Wheen Bee Foundation, has established the Strategic Bee Rebuild & Recovery Fund, which supports programs and projects that will allow our bees and beekeepers to be sustained over the next 10 years. Beechworth Honey will be supporting the Bee Rebuild & Recovery Fund. We are working with the Wheen Bee Foundation to develop a plan and will let you know the details of our support in the coming weeks. Please consider a donation to support long-term recovery - https://www.wheenbeefoundation.org.au/support-us/donate/

07.01.2022 Out of sugar and can’t get your hands on any? No problem! Did you know that you can substitute sugar for honey! Something I have been doing for a few years now.... We have honey for all of our sweeteners and yes even in baking, coffee and teas! Here is a little conversion chart I like to use when baking with honey. Raw honey is rich in antioxidants and has so many health benefits. Why not make the switch? We have plenty of honey available. Send us a message or call us and we will be happy to help you out @ironbarkapiaries #ironbarkapiaries#ironbarkapiarieshoney#rawhoney#australianrawhoney#natural#naturalhoney#localbeekeeper#fourthgenerationbeekeepingfamily#australianbeekeeping#beekeeping#centralvictoria#shepparton#echuca#bendigo#rushworth#supportlocal#smallbusiness See more
