25.01.2022 Well that's it , Alex and I have split up and I've come home to Jackie and my family. Been a great trip in every way, been away 28days and clocked up 12,835k . I'll write a trip summary or closing blog after I've settled in at home. Australia is a beautiful big country and I'm glad to have seen as much as we did in that short time. Russ

25.01.2022 Freemantle , view from roundhouse prison

25.01.2022 Arrived in Freo no dramas, tested the grey matter a little as things have changed a huge amount. End of the 2nd leg of our Bucket List ride. 8300k travelled from home. Wish I could say it was a walk in the park like the 1st leg but were here now safe and well and Im feeling a lot better now. Alex is fine. Apart from my little drama with my aftermarket sump guard both bikes are again faultless. Well treat them an oil change in the next few days. Ill add more later, Vickis going to take us for a drive into Fremantle waterside shortly . Russell.

25.01.2022 In the stocks!!! Freemantle!

Even 2 rooms away! Lol.thanks jim for the loan of the spot tracker.and thanks for all the likes and comments along the way.it gave us a good laugh every evening. Cheers Alex.

24.01.2022 Look at these boys, revisiting their youth!

23.01.2022 Greetings from Port Augusta. Was a wet start today, but cleared with strong winds. Tomorrow looks much of the same. Weve had a dream run so far so have to expect it. Met some old blokes riding around Australia on old 1930s Vincent bikes. One of the blokes machined many of his own engine parts. I thought we were doing it well but those blokes were brave on old machinery. Maybe room for more bucket lists when I get old. Alex coping well with the big days but we might pull it back a little now. Depending when we get to Broken Hill it would be good to have another look at the Mad Max museum in Silverton. Russ.

23.01.2022 Been a little quiet lately catching up and enjoying a few beers. Make sure your cashed up drinking around Perth / Fremantle. We went to Freo to 4 different pubs and had shout of 4 pints in each pub. $43 to $45 each round . Little Creatures, Sail ad Anchor, Norfolk, Rosies pubs. Our intention is to start the ride home Sunday, rain expected Saturday. Spoke to a bloke from Geraldton who wants to buy my V Strom when I get home, fully kitted as he wants to ride around Australia. Russ

21.01.2022 Even though we arrived here only today we were busy doing the tourist thing in Fremantle with Vicki. Bought our supplies for the bike oil change and made arrangements to get 2 new rear tyres at Planet Honda Melville, walking distance around the corner from Vickis house. Not getting the lumpy adventure tyre this time but going the tried and trusted Michelin Pilot Road 2. $237 fitted but we have to remove our own wheels for that price. Now we have to degrease all the chain lube stuck on the wheels so we can do it . What a mess they are. Theyve got a nice new Honda VFR1200X up there, I wonder if Jackie will notice if I arrive home on a red bike ?

21.01.2022 Hello from beautiful downtown Nullarbor. Staying at Nullarbor roadhouse with less then 300k to Ceduna to finish the Nullarbor Plains. Was a big day in cool weather 930k from Norseman. Lost 1.5hr crossing the border too so a later finish. All going good and the trip now has a different feel to it as we head for home. Russ

13.01.2022 This is poor mans version of heated grips. A friend of Vickis gave some to us to keep hands warm, crack the block inside then put the block in your gloves to warm hands for 8hrs. 3 degree morning expected at Eucla. Could also be used to keep crown jewels warm .

13.01.2022 Nullabor roadhouse for the night.

11.01.2022 To put same names to faces here , the older couple with hair same colour as Alex are Ralph and Mary, a Scottish couple. Ralph was our old boss, Rob in the wheelchair worked with us too. Rob and his brothers all raced speedway bikes but sadly Rob had an accident in the mid eighties which left him in the wheelchair. The other couple Glen and Melissa are going to Phillip Is with. Paul and Rachel in Oct. Thats a mouthfull. Back to Vickis house tomorrow for last day and pack up. Paul crook with cold now. Russ

10.01.2022 Back to the real world now ! Problem with ticking something big off your bucket list is you feel like adding more things to the list ! When you see 70 + year olds riding vintage bikes around Australia that would normally be ridden to a display you feel like there is lots more fun to be had motorcycling. Anyway I wanted to re-cap a few things and tell my story. Congratulations to Alex who had a very minimal motorcycling preparation to this trip and was also nursing a recent...ly broken thumb which put him off the bike for 6 weeks before leaving. He had never travelled any major distance ever .Thats now changed. We set out for a 4 week ride, some said the time was too short to see anything , but thats the time and $ budget we had. We saw a snapshot of so much and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Some of the country we covered I had travelled before but the Kimberleys and north of WA , I had never seen before. Alex had seen nothing of Australia before this trip. The Kimberleys were spectacular and well worth the visit. Cable Beach was beautiful after so much red country. The Nullarbor Plains was no problem and at this time of year well vegetated and cool to travel with roadhouses every 200-250k so no real problem petrol wise. The most challenging section to ride [for me] was from Broome south to Karratha. Very straight roads, barren country and hot travelling. We were sun magnets on the road in such open country and I felt it. We met a Greyhound interstate bus driver in Kununurra who told us we would not see a police car on the road between Katherine NT to Port Headland WA and he was correct. Thats 2,100k of unadulterated fun for the V Strom boys. If I had another 28 days to do the trip again I would : Buy a f##king Telstra phone , put road tyres on from the start, half my rest time in Perth and add more of the south west corner of WA. I would like to thank everybody for following this Facebook page and making their comments and likes. Im now waiting for Koche and Samantha for an interview on Sunrise, I think with my video skills I could handle being the next travelling weather reporter . Thanks Alex for setting up this page too. Sorry for being a bit longwinded. Russell See more

10.01.2022 Well even the young one in the group is starting to feel crook with a cold, poor little buggar ! He keeps promising he is quiting smoking but he keeps finding more new packets along the way. Had a great day up Mundaring Wier today, a popular spot for day ride bikers. And for the history buffs, Mundaring weir was desined and built by C Y OConner in the late 1800s for the Kalgoorlie water supply. Russ

07.01.2022 Howdy from Texas Qld. Back to the Stockman Hotel in Texas where we started on our own after the GAR ride .What a day from Cobar, every turn we took the rain caught up to us and belted us. Shane your police mates from Coonabarabran were on smoko as we went through so all good there. We have all been through rain before but 3 days is enough for us, hope tomorrows run home is clear . Bikes look very second hand. But its still good to be doing it. Been another 800k day today so weve been keeping the mighty V Stroms honest. Russ . Well be home tomorrow .

05.01.2022 Hello there, for everyone waiting for us to hit the road again, we will be back on our bikes tomorrow morning [Sunday] about 6am local time. Heading to Norseman approx 800k from here. That will position us to hit the Nullarbor 0n Monday morning. Were well rested and ready ,and its time to be heading home. Our friends and hosts here have been great and we appreciate everything they have done for us. ... Happy days ahead. Russ
