25.01.2022 Geoff and Sandra hard at work producing school bus passes last night! From Tuesday the Russell Island bus driver will be issuing bus passes to all students who have been approved by Queensland Transport for free travel on the school bus. Your child will be required to carry their pass with them at all times when they are travelling on the bus and present it to the driver upon entry to the bus. If your child does not receive a pass but you have submitted a form, the driver wil...l have a list of those students in the bus and they may travel for free until QT notifies us of their approval. We will then issue them with a bus pass. As there are thousands of forms to be processed by QT at this time of year, it can take some time for the approvals to come back to us, so we allow your child to travel for free once you have submitted your form. Thank you to all parents who have submitted forms for their child to travel on the bus. If you have not handed your form to the driver, then, as of next week (24/2/20), your child will not be able to travel on the bus unless they pay a fare of $1.00 per trip (i.e. $2.00 return). 25.01.2022 Carol and John from Russell Island Taxi are kindly assisting us this morning to get the students to school on time. We greatly appreciate this and those parents who have made other arrangements. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

23.01.2022 School Bus Services on Russell Island are running next week as school will be resuming for Term 2. We will be sanitising and cleaning the bus as per usual and applying social distancing as much as possible.

22.01.2022 School Bus Services on Russell Island will be continuing next week. Despite some confusing media headlines, schools are open next week. Schools have not been closed (apart from a few private schools who have already started holidays early). Premier Palaszczuk said in her press conference yesterday that schools are to remain open for all children of essential workers. Importantly, she defined essential workers as ‘anyone who has a job’. When referring to whose children c...ould still attend school next week, she said, ‘It’s not just our health workers, it’s not just our emergency service workers, it’s not just our police workers it involves anyone in our workforce including people who stack shelves at Coles and Woolies and work in a range of different industries’. So, most people are allowed to send their children to school. We will still be running our school buses for those parents who need our service up until the last day of school. We are continuing our extra cleaning and sanitizing regimes to keep everyone as safe as we can. See more

20.01.2022 Russell Island Bus not running. Unfortunately we are having engine problems with our bus this morning and both the high school and primary runs will be affected. If you can take your child to the jetty (high school) or to the primary school this morning, we would appreciate it. We are trying to rectify the problem as soon as possible. Please share this post.

19.01.2022 Exciting News! You can now apply online for School Transport Assistance on Russell Island School Bus. https://www.qld.gov.au//apply-for-school-transport-assista

18.01.2022 Good news! The fault has been fixed on the bus and school runs will be operating as usual this afternoon. Thank you for your patience with this and a grateful thank you to Russell Island Taxi for their assistance this morning!

17.01.2022 Please check the times for Russell Island school runs on our website http://bluebus.com.au/index.php/school-bus-services/. A reminder that the ferry we meet for the high school run in the afternoon is the one that departs Redland Bay at 3:35pm and arrives at Russell Island at 3:55pm. Some students are catching an earlier ferry but we have to wait for the official high school boat for all the school students that aren't being let out early!

16.01.2022 Welcome back to a new year of travel on the Russell Island School Bus! Bus passes will be issued to all students who have been approved by Queensland Transport for free travel on the island school bus in the next couple of weeks. If you were approved last year in most cases you will carry over from last year and do not need to reapply. If anything has changed (eg school, address, etc) you will need to reapply. Your child will be required to carry their pass with them at all t...imes when they are travelling on the bus. If your child does not receive a pass but you have recently submitted a form, the driver will have a list of those students in the bus and they may travel for free until QT notifies us of their approval. We will then issue them with a bus pass. As there are thousands of forms to be processed by QT at this time of year, it can take some time for the approvals to come back to us, so we allow your child to travel for free once you have submitted your form. Please look after your pass and secure it to your bag, as a replacement one will cost $10. You can apply for your child’s bus pass online this year! See www.qld.gov.au/SchoolTransportAssistance or call 1300 119 289.

13.01.2022 We wish to apologise for any inconvenience to parents and students as a number of students missed the school bus yesterday afternoon. This morning we spoke to Sealink who have now informed us that an additional ferry for students-only has been added as a result of the Covid-19 restrictions. We were not aware of this. We have talked to the bus driver today who didn't realise there were additional students still coming yesterday afternoon. We are sorry for the misunderstanding.

12.01.2022 Our School Services continue to run next week. The following guidelines have been provided by Translink regarding School Transport: Following the re-commencement of regular schooling, children attending school classes will be exempt from the requirements for social distancing. While travelling to and from school on dedicated school transport services (which transport only school children), these services are not required to include any specific measures for social distancing.... Please see https://translink.com.au/service-updates/273996 for more information. We will not be carrying adult passengers (apart from school teachers) until further notice.

04.01.2022 We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for your support in 2019 and we look forward to travelling with you again in 2020!

02.01.2022 In the interests of public safety, Russell Island Bus Service will not be operating on Monday 7-9-20 due to the current positive case of COVID-19 on Russell Island. Testing of our bus drivers and island residents is happening this weekend and our drivers are awaiting their results. This will affect both the primary and high school routes. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. Our thoughts are with all island residents at this time and we hope everyone keeps safe. As per Qld Health recommendations, we encourage good personal hygiene and use of hand sanitisers and masks where social distancing is not possible.
