25.01.2022 Wednesday morning from the Russell Island Ferry Terminal at 6 15am is looking promising for a roll around the Island, we won't venture too far into the wild as the insects and water have a strong hold over the forest, so we'll stay close to the roads before heading back for a coffee. E-bikes welcome.

23.01.2022 The MITAS ARROW-WELTEX+ is a tyre I've been using all summer and it has stood up to be close to Maxxis refuse and Continental Gator skins for longevity but when it comes to cornering and wet roads the ARROW-WELTEX+ is substantially superior and would make a great race tire. With the bead made of a rubberized fabric they can handle the harshness of some carbon rims. I ride the 28mm tire for extra comfort and it is also available in 25mm if you have a tight frame. RRP $69.95 each mention this post and I'll do a set for $130 fitted with new tubes, in store only.

22.01.2022 Friday morning shop ride is looking good. We'll leave from the Jetty Store at 6 30am for a steady loop about 40km to stretch the legs. Everyone and E-bikes are welcome.

20.01.2022 We've been getting out a bit over the past few weeks so I've selected a few rides and pictures to share. I've included The 50 km radius from home as a guide to stay legal and as you can see there is ample riding available. The pictures of Nick are as he crests the short sharp climb of Baileys Mountain Road Willow vale before making our way back to the Jetty Store for a cuppa.

20.01.2022 After a late start due to my laundry requirement and not missing the elusive day of sunshine, Nick and I rode a nice 40km with 430m climbing to Capalaba to pick up some bearings and back to the shop for coffee and a chat as we cool off. Nicks chain ring upgrade has proven successful as he can now hold higher speeds on the flats and downs without running out of gears and his new granny gear is not too long for him to handle. Rides at the moment are relative to each days weather so Wednesday's gravel ride will be determined Tuesday evening.

17.01.2022 Lets get behind Nick and this wonderful cause! Today is the best day, Wednesday 14th, to sponsor Nick, as your pledge will be matched $ for $ by the CMRI (children's medical research institute). Jump on board to help our little ones become big ones.

16.01.2022 BAY ISLAND BIKES will remain open through these tough times as long as possible, so you can have your freedom to ride with the knowledge you have support should you require parts, servicing or a new bike. All required steps and commonsense have been adopted to address safety as we fulfil your requirements. If you are unsure than don't hesitate to call so we can work out the logistics and have your bike ready to go. My trading times will be as usual but flexible should you require, just call to arrange. Stay safe, keep warm, eat well and share some love and compassion.

15.01.2022 Mick, Nick and I got out today for a spin in the morning sun. A steady fixie Friday 30km over to Cornubia and back. The weather is becoming friendly in the mornings allowing for some beautiful ride temp's and the traffic has been very polite and sharing. Tomorrow morning will leave 6 30 from the shop and do a loop around Capalaba, E-bikes welcome.

14.01.2022 We've had a couple of great rides this week, Wednesday was a trip around Russell Island and Today was a run to Capalaba. Nick and I showed Greg, a friend from earlier riding days, around Russell Island as he searches for his dream block. Today we rode to Capalaba at a nice gentle pace with a focus on technique and cadence. Saturday morning will be another nice gentle roll up to the Light house at Cleveland and back past the wineries. All welcome including E-bikes. Social distancing and group numbers are an important measure to adhere to so we'll sort the logistics before we leave. Hope to see you.

11.01.2022 Today's gravel ride was a welcome event after the inclement weather over the past month. Only Nick and myself were starters today so we set it in cruise mode and covered 26km with 400m climbing. The island is still quite wet so we applied an old surfing rule, STAY HIGH STAY DRY and checked out the building progress around the island. We finished with a run around the BMX track behind the Bowls Club before making our way back for coffee

11.01.2022 Today's ride saw some beautiful weather of which James and I were the only takers. We did a nice 37km loop to loosen the legs after sitting it out over the last couple of weeks for me will James is reaping some benefits after increasing his time in the saddle regardless of the weather. Hopefully we'll get favorable weather again tomorrow so if your looking to get out for a morning ride your welcome to join us at 6 30am as we do a gentle spin to Cleveland and back to the Jetty Store for coffee and chat.

10.01.2022 Today's ride was 44 km with 350m of climbing. Nick and I rode at a steady pace focusing on a high cadence and zone 1-2 heart rate. There were a lot of people out this morning enjoying the mild weather and most were compliant with the requirements. Next Wednesday will be another gravel ride weather permitting that will take us to Macleay Island. Stay safe, keep riding and follow the rules.

09.01.2022 With the weather looking good and the mozzies under control our WEDNESDAY GRAVEL RIDE will resume this week leaving from the ferry terminal at 615am. We will take in the North western side of the island before coffee at Auntie Alice's this week. Hope to see a good roll up with E-bikes welcome.

08.01.2022 Nick and I put in a nice 35km to the Cleveland light house and back. Nick led the way today from start to finish while he explored his gears with inclines and head winds all the way home. The weather was very comfortable with the sun behind the clouds and the traffic had a late start today but seemed to be quite friendly although some were a little forgetful in way of indicating.

07.01.2022 Wednesday saw Nick and I share a a great ride to get the ball rolling. We checked out the progress on the north western corner of the Island where we found a lot of newly sealed roads. As we were looking for dirt to play in, heading deeper into the forest was our best chance and we were rewarded with some new fire trails that can now be explored further in the coming weeks.

04.01.2022 Today's ride was a nice 37km loop with Pete from Russell Island and Mick from Macleay Island joining James and myself. Pete is preparing for a Triathlon event so the intensity was a little sharper than usual finishing with a nice cuppa and chat session in the "coffee garden" at the Jetty Store. Tomorrow will be a gentle spin from 6 30am to roll out the week given favorable weather with a coffee and chat back at the Jetty Store.
