22.01.2022 CROPPA CREEK LANDHOLDERS LOOK OUT FOR PARTHENIUM Landholders are being urged to keep an eye out for parthenium weed, after it was found on a property near... Croppa Creek last week. Extensive efforts are underway from Gwydir Shire Council and Moree Plains Shire Council and North West Local Lands Services to bring the infestation under control and eradicate it as quickly as possible. Parthenium weed is something thing our farmers don’t need to deal with; it can spread rapidly, is dangerous to grazing animals, and reduces crop and land values. Please check areas where hay, grain or seed has been fed to pets, livestock or chickens, and to inspect roadsides and areas with bare soil, where soil or compost have been delivered or where earthworks have taken place. If you see the weed call the NSW DPI Biosecurity Helpline on 1800 680 244. More information about parthenium weed and how to identify it can be found on the NSW DPI website at https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au//seen-this-plant-parthenium-weed We need your help to make sure our region is free from this scourge! 11.01.2022 QUEENSLAND BORDER BUBBLE TO EXPAND SLIGHTLY I have just received news that Queensland Health has agreed to expand the 'border bubble' to include more towns... in our region! From 1am Thursday, 20 August, residents in Croppa Creek (postcode 2411), North Star (2408), Deepwater and Emmaville (2371) will be included in the ‘border bubble’ and will be allowed to cross into Queensland. This is very welcome news, but the battle continues to other communities in the region and other sensible exemptions in exceptional circumstances, including critical education, agriculture and emergency services activities. Thank you to everyone who has helped achieve this result!!

06.01.2022 NATIONAL MISSING PERSONS WEEK 2020 Sunday August 2 marks the start of National Missing Persons Week. This is a week to raise awareness, to recognise and honour missing people and their families. A week where the community can show their support to this important societal issue. This year, we need to find new ways to connect, band together, and support the people affected in our community. We recognise this is an important and challenging week, and invite families to reach o...ut for support when needed - from friends, family, and FFMPU counsellors: [email protected] or 1800 633 063 (during business hours). Community members play an important role, by reaching out to offer support to impacted families, sharing #NMPW20 campaigns, and contacting Crimestoppers with any information that might help in an investigation. https://crimestoppers.com.au/

04.01.2022 2020 Moree Show Cancelled. After a meeting held yesterday at the Moree Showground, the committee regretfully voted unanimously to cancel this year’s Moree Show,... which was rescheduled to be held on August 14th,15th. After hoping that conditions may allowed our much loved event to be held, the situation has become untenable. Since 1874 the Moree Show has only been cancelled 5 times, during the World Wars, the town fires of 1928, and due to seasonal conditions. We have put the safety of our whole community at the forefront of our decision, and hope you can stay with us in these trying times. The 2021 Show is already being planned, and should be bigger and better than ever. This decision was made after giving ourselves the maximum amount of time before making this difficult call. The health and safety of our community must come first. I encourage you all to support our valued sponsors, who have been behind us the entire time, and we hope everyone stays safe during this dreadful pandemic and that Moree stays Covid free. Yours Sincerely Brendan Munn President Moree Show Society Inc. See more
