25.01.2022 2020 was bad but 1914-1918 and 1939-1945... were worse Lest We Forget #remembranceday #lestweforget

25.01.2022 Simple elegance....it doesn’t take much to create a cosy little nook.

24.01.2022 Deep Winter bouquet.who needs flowers! Beautifully battered coffee jug $25 Vintage folding rulers $25 each Vintage numbers $12 each... . . . #rustemporium #vintagestyling #elegantlyknackered See more

24.01.2022 A little pop of red just in time for Christmas...SOLD This versatile little set of drawers could be used just about anywhere in the house. I’ve styled them 3 ways just to give you a start. A Christmassy little addition to your verandah or living area to hold extra dinnerware for all those guests we’re now allowed to have ... Equally gorgeous in a boy or girls bedroom. All drawers slide easily so there’s plenty of storage. And at just 750mm (75cm) high they’d even make a great TV cabinet. A few close ups & details of all the bits and pieces in my stories. Prices on photos DM to purchase, inspections welcome.

24.01.2022 FORAGED....because it’s Friday, and I’ve been too busy to get anything done. How’s that for a paradox! So here’s a pic of a nest I found earlier this week. I’ll be finalizing the 2021 calendar today so don’t forget to order yours by next Friday. I’ll only be doing one print run this year so don’t miss out! (see previous post for details)

22.01.2022 Dreamy Spring days are just made for picnics under a big old tree, serenaded by the birds and lulled by dappled sunbeams. Seeing pictures in the clouds, playing cards and drinking tea.... Details in my stories

22.01.2022 So the first day of the New Year went something like this... Get notified on New Years Eve that the borders are closing at midnight of the 1st Hastily pack everything and leave at 3.30am to drive over 1500km in 21 hours, stopping only to fuel up and show our pass at the border. Full credit to the Victoria Police who greeted us with a bit of banter & good cheer and got us on our way as quickly as possible. (Thankfully we avoided those horrendous queues earlier) Arrived home at... 1.30am to find the dog had given up on us and left home, but the mice had happily moved in en masse. We finally found Wee Fergus late this morning having the time of his life with some pals across town (thank you to all those who messaged to say they’d seen him) and the man of the house is on mouse hunting duty. Traps are going off all over the house like canastas which is quite festive Luckily, despite not going through any red zones we will be in quarantine for a week or two which will give me ample time for a belated Spring clean and to win back Wee Fergus who is sulking at being left behind and currently not talking to me. 2021 off to a flying start! Happy New Year How’s 2021 shaping up for you so far? @ Briagolong, Victoria

22.01.2022 Spent the day yesterday restocking my vintage wares stall at Dargo General Store Can’t believe I haven’t been up there since March. It’s beautiful and green, and the river is flowing crystal clear. ... Pete at the Dargo General Store tells me there have been plenty of fish caught, and Kerry has the store looking absolutely amazing. They’ve got all your basic grocery requirements, and heaps of fabulous giftware, plus all your camping, fishing and car needs. Between bushfires, landslides and the pandemic Dargo has been isolated for most of the year, but they’re open for business now and I know they’d appreciate your support. Whether you love spending a weekend camping, fishing, panning for gold, four wheel driving or trail biking or just want to take a leisurely Sunday drive with lunch at the pub or by the river Dargo is ideal.

21.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there, whether they be here with us, separated by distance or sadly departed, they are always with us in spirit, that is the true gift of great parents. Miss you Dad, hopefully see you for Christmas #rustemporium ... #fathersday2020 See more

20.01.2022 Final edit is done on my 2021 ‘Stories from the Forest Floor’ Calendar. $25 each plus $10 postage if required. One print run only this year folks and orders MUST be in and paid for by this Friday the 20th Nov. DM to order... Let’s hope we actually get to pencil in some exciting events on next years calendar!

19.01.2022 You can’t beat a big white kitchen dresser for that Country Style look. This very solid girl has just the right amount of quirky with mismatched vintage green door knobs and timber drawer handles. She could do with a paint freshen up but I’ve decided to sell her as is to keep the price down. Inspections welcome by appointment $250... Vintage canisters are a must have in any country kitchen and this set ticks all the boxes, with lovely intact decals on all but the smallest (I’d hide the lollies in that one!) $95 set 5 as the flour lid has a ding in it. All lids seal fine. @ Briagolong, Victoria

18.01.2022 Finding it is only half the fun, it’s the making it pretty bit when you get home that I love. I’m listing this sweet little Art Nouveau pot cupboard first so I’m not tempted to keep it! Measures 76cm H x 55 cm W x 44cm D (at widest point)

17.01.2022 Can’t take credit for this one, and I don’t know who did it first, but I couldn’t resist sharing!

16.01.2022 Well the Roadmap to Recovery wasn’t quite what everyone was hoping for. On the bright side we’ve all got plenty of time to plan new adventures once we are free to roam. I’m looking forward to seeing my family in Qld, again (hopefully for Christmas as planned ) and there are a few B&B’s I’ve got my eye on for the road trip up. I’m going to tag them here, feel free to tag any great B&B’s you know (or if you run one) especially those in Victoria who could really use some love... right now. There are no restrictions on imagination, so let’s dream big and plan the roadtrip of a lifetime. Let me know, where will your next adventure be? I’ve got a few cool vintage road maps here that would look great framed. Prices and details in my stories. Comment or DM to buy, postage is free on the maps, DM for a quote on other pieces. 16.01.2022 Went on my first big pick today since lockdown way back in March. I used to do trips like this once or twice a week when I had the shop. It’s a logistical nightmare, juggling pick up times with multiple people across the region but I do love it. Today I did a 7 hour round trip, drove nearly 400km, met some lovely people, realized I hadn’t driven over 80km/hr since March, and that 110km/hr on a multi lane freeway is a bit scary when you haven’t done it in a while Also admitted to myself that I cannot eat a Whopper with Cheese whilst driving or it WILL end up in my lap and I’m always happiest on the back roads with my nose pointed towards the hills. Upside of all that? Loads of new bits to share with you over the next few days...standby!

15.01.2022 What better way to start the day than by sharing breakfast on the verandah, soaking up that Spring sunshine. I keep a notebook on this table, to record all the bird species we have visit our garden. While the Grey Shrike Thrush May not be the most spectacular looking visitor, she more than makes up for it with her charm, friendliness and beautiful song. I didn’t catch her singing on my video but found some beautiful recordings of Australian Birds by Andrew Skeoch & Sarah Kosc...hak. Happy Monday!

14.01.2022 The very first brave violet showed her face in the Forest today. A gentle little gift of Spring. It won’t be long before they are as prolific as the sprightly Greenhood Orchids that have been valiantly pushing forth since the Winter Solstice. Spring is not always so gentle with us. Down here nestled at the feet of the Australian Alps, Spring can be ferocious and fickle. She loves to tease us with blasts of hot dry wind from the West, then just as we are getting summer ready s...he’ll send one last dump of snow or frost just for fun. Woe betide the complacent gardener in Spring! But so far this year she’s taken pity on us. After so long in drought we’ve had a beautifully wet winter. The puddles still lie everywhere in the Forest, and the Spring sun is shining softly, coaxing long dormant bulbs and seeds out to play. Fingers crossed it won’t be long before we can all go out and enjoy it too. Nearly there Victoria

14.01.2022 It’s been over 20 years since I’ve picked up a paint brush (artistically). I’d always planned to get back into it ‘one day’ ‘when I had time’ It took a post by Evie (Peace and Love Ceremonies) (link in my stories) on scheduling self care to make me dust it off and move it from the bottom of my To Do list to the top. So yesterday, despite a huge list of mundane tasks to be done, I spent a blissful few hours in the sun, snoring dogs at my feet, and tried to remember long forgot...ten techniques. I’m a bit rusty so will be scheduling in a lot more painting practice, and will rewatch a great little tutorial that @salted_sunrise very generously shared on Instagram a while back. The boring jobs still got done, but they were done with a lighter heart and a calmer mind. So thanks Evie for that little reminder to book in some me time X

13.01.2022 Our road trip up to Queensland this year wasn’t the usual journey of discovery, where we muddle along, searching out quaint old towns and vintage treasures. This year we barely stopped, wanting to keep our contact with the outside world to a minimum. I found this gorgeous old tin trunk in literally the only place we stopped in far western N.S.W thanks to a tip from my brother in law (cheers @toml580 ) She’s battered and a bit flaky, but still has many years left in her, a bi...t like us all at the end of 2020, so it’s fitting that she’s the last piece to be offered up for sale this year. Would make a fantastic coffee table, with heaps of storage. Available for purchase in Laidley, Qld until Sunday 3rd, or we’ll be back in Vic around the 5th. Comment or DM to buy. Item must be paid for in full. May be able to deliver in NSW depending on where you are. 98cm L x 49.5cm W x 49cm H $165 + delivery if required @ Laidley, Queensland

12.01.2022 When life gives you lemons.you create a still life, or something along those lines? I’ve been out of action again this week so apologies for those that have wanted to come browse the shed and I haven’t been available. The Shed Shop will be OPEN BY APPOINTMENT this weekend and if you’re shy about booking in a time (please don’t be!) I’m hoping to have an Open Day next Thursday. ... I’ll be listing a few more vintage pieces online tomorrow morning around 10am so see you then . . . #rustemporium #vintagevignette #whenlifegivesyoulemons

12.01.2022 A few more bits & bobs from the Shed (see previous post if you missed it) Vintage numbers flatlay inspired by the trauma that is the End of the Financial Year. For those like me that are not that way inclined, this is how I like my numbers ... Vintage Folding Rulers $25 ea (1 SOLD, 2 available) Enameled house numbers $12 ea (228 SOLD & 81) All other numbers $5 each Happy to post or can be collected from Briagolong by appointment this weekend . . . #vintageflatlay #vintagenumbers #howivintage #vintagestyle

12.01.2022 Shades of plum and blush pink, everything old becomes new again. 1950’s classic Lord Nelson Rose jugs and Harlequin ware espresso cups. They were on trend then as they are now.

11.01.2022 ‘Outside In’ was today’s prompt from @myhouseismycastle Luckily the roses needed a good prune so I went big. Nothing quite like gathering armfuls of fragrant roses, it feels so decadent. I was going to paint this little hall table, but once it was sanded back I quite liked it as is. Pared back & simple. ... $125 as is or if you’d prefer it painted let me know and we can talk colours.

10.01.2022 I love that you can walk the same tracks in the Bush day in day out, yet it is ever evolving. Each plant takes its turn in the spotlight. The Pomaderris is the true wallflower of the bush. You can walk past her gangly limbs and dull green leaves all year and never notice her. But come spring and she’s blossomed. Like a debutante taking her first sip of champagne, she’s stifled a little burp, got the giggles, then her favourite song has started playing and before you know it... she’s whirling on the dance floor, the star of the show. No short flashy skirts and high heels for this girl. She’s wearing a vintage 1950’s nude pink tulle evening gown she picked up in an op shop and a pair of white converse. She’s hanging out with her best friend Clematis who is always called the pretty one. What a show they’re putting on, wonder who’ll be next up on the dance floor? See more

09.01.2022 It’s all systems go to get the Shed Shop up and running now that regional restrictions are lifting. Just waiting for the boys to finish the verandah roof....meanwhile I’m faffing around inside. Who doesn’t love a shelfie! What’s your style? Rustic or Retro? All items for Sale, comment for prices

09.01.2022 If you love old weathered timber, chippy terra-cotta pots, rusty stuff, pieces with stories and lots of patina, I think you’re going to like the Rust Emporium Shed Shop.... last stage of renos happening this week. Standby for an open day

09.01.2022 I’m sure we’re all looking forward to flipping that calendar over and starting a New Year! Order your 2021 Rust Emporium Calendar now. ‘Stories from the Forest Floor’... Each month features an original photo taken on my morning forays into the Forest, accompanied by a short bit of prose to inspire you for the month ahead. Let’s make 2021 the year of adventure! $25 each + $10 postage if required DM to order by Friday 20th

08.01.2022 All the vintage greeny blue feels. I’m an absolute bower bird for this shade of eau de nil...anyone else? Prices listed in my stories Pick up from Briagolong or postage available on smaller items. Can deliver locally or to Bairnsdale on Friday for a small fee.

08.01.2022 I had a tip off from a friend. Go and check out the wildflowers at the cemetery. So I did. The air redolent of chocolate and vanilla from the great swathes of chocolate lilies. Carefully tended remnants of the vast Redgum plains that have now all but disappeared.... The sky suitably overcast with clouds a soft grey to match the worn and weathered headstones. Many friends and family rest here. I walk slowly, paying my respects to those I knew and loved, eyes misty with memories. But I’m not saddened by this place, I’m reassured. Memories of the land, the people, the community that built our present, they are all preserved and tended here. They may be gone, but they are not forgotten.

06.01.2022 My #topnine2020 , a beautiful mix of forest walks, vintage finds and wee Fergus of course. The standout post being my reel about going home at Christmas. I think after such a tumultuous year with many families being separated for so long, and the final blow for many coming just a few days before Christmas this one really resonated with you all. To date it’s been viewed over 6000 times and has 294 likes. Small fry to some, but I was chuffed that so many enjoyed it, and it was ...certainly the highlight of my 2020. I’ve shared all these again to my stories for those that might have missed them. So tonight we wave goodbye to an epic year that started with drought and fire then segued into a pandemic and lockdown. Bizarrely a year where I finally managed to find that perfect balance between work, creativity and family time, with the opening of the Rust Emporium Shed Shop. I’m looking forward to fine tuning that in 2021 and I’m bursting with new ideas. Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year, and hoping with all my might that we have a gentler year ahead. Stay safe, and live a little magic each day xx Nadine

05.01.2022 Just a few shots that have made it into the 2021 Calendar. I’m doing the final edit tonight...or maybe tomorrow, it’s been a big day lol Excited this year to be able to include a little bit of text with each picture. Some old stories, some new, but hopefully all will inspire you to live a little bit of magic each month. Taking preorders now. If you’d like to order your 2021 Rust Emporium ‘Stories from the Forest Floor’ Calendar please DM for payment details... $25 each + $10 postage (Aus) if required. Orders will need to be placed by next Friday. See more

02.01.2022 Well that’s another term done & dusted. Let’s hope we get to finish the year out with some kind of normalcy. Enjoy the School Holidays, hope everyone gets the the chance to stop and smell the flowers...

01.01.2022 This gorgeous old sewing machine still manages to look all kinds of right...despite being all kinds of wrong. The early 1950’s Pfaff 30/31 sewing machine (considered one of the best semi industrial machines) has been mounted on a Singer treadle base. The drawer handles are not original either, yet the whole thing just works. A lovely piece that would function well as a hall table/side table or display piece. Priced accordingly $230
