17.01.2022 WA Premier Mark McGowan said he expects the states interstate border to remain in place "for months" to come. Whats your opinion on this? He said WAs isol...ation, community response and hard border controls had allowed more flexibility to progress "further along on our roadmap". "It is these weapons that have allowed us to ease restrictions further than any other state in the past," he said. "Our next step will be significant and it will be challenging. "But we must all continue to act responsibly and that means good physical distancing, where possible, and good personal hygiene." Phase Three of the WA roadmap comes into play from midnight, June 6. 12.01.2022 20 years - and this is it - for now. Our last night cooking at Rustlers until the government says we can reopen. We would have done takeaways- but the licensing law prevent us from trading in takeaways (we have a tavern license and are not attached to accommodation). To all our amazing customers - we thank you for your support over the years. To our fantastic Landlords for helping us out in our time of distress. To my assortment of suppliers - thanks for the good deals and hope to do many again when we reopen. But a big thank you to our incredibly talented staff - new and old - who have been the backbone of success for this business. Our biggest regret will always be not been able to save your jobs. Everyone stay safe and hope that this is all over soon. #morethanjustasteakhouse #seeyouallsoon #amazingalbany

11.01.2022 Due to staff shortages, We are unfortunately closed today and every Tuesday for the foreseeable future, while we are looking for more staff. Sorry for any inconvenience.

10.01.2022 We are hoping to open very soon. And its a big thank you to the Restaurant and catering association, AHAWA and the national board of the Australian Hotels Association. We had hoped and aimed for Monday the 18th opening, but after carefully sitting down with our accounting team and restaurant team, we had to make the unfortunate decision to wait and see if the state government is will to make a few allowances for larger restaurants and pubs. We respect the governments decisi...on and realise the need to move slowly and safely, but if we are to survive as an institution of Albany for years to come, we will have to continue to wait on the sidelines for now, in preparation for the opportunity that awaits all of us on the other side of COVID19. We hope you are ready for some darn good steak and meaty ribs when we get back as the chefs are eager to get back behind the char grill and our FoH team are excited to greet you all again. See more

10.01.2022 Our Back of House team are members of a group on Facebook that put up a post that really hit home last night. 2020 may have been bad for our industry here in Australia- but we should take time to realise and appreciate how good we have it here in Western Australia, and to take the time to think about the other hospitality workers around the world who are not as fortunate as we are. Whether you are spiritual or not, at this time of year it is a time of family, and our hospitality family stretches to every part of the world.

06.01.2022 Congratulations to the Boston Brewing Co. Denmark, and to our amazing staff who go into the finals for the Australian Hotels Association (WA) Hospitality Awards for Excellence. This means we are closed in mid November - we will be closed, as we are taking a majority of the staff (those 18+) up for the awards night to celebrate one of the toughest years we have had. Just to get to the finals is hard enough so win or lose the big prize, we still feel like winners. And a big thanks to all our customers who help support our local small businesses. Check out the Albany Advertiser for the full story.

04.01.2022 Well in 40 years this has to be the most interesting. Never has so much happened to the point where you think it was 2 years ago. Susie and myself would like to wish everyone a safe and rewarding 2021. I have always loved the state I live in, but never have I felt so grateful to live in Western Australia - where I can still visit and hug my family and friends, and safety trade without fear. The only down side was not been able to spend New Year’s Eve with my kids like I hav...e done since my son was born 12 years ago. But that was a decision made by the City of Albany 6 months ago without any thought to small businesses owners like me. (But this is a first world issue and won’t shorten my life span) But all in all, I am grateful to be alive, grateful for my staff, my friends, my family and my suppliers and fellow businesses that have supported Susie, Rustlers and myself over this year. We look forward to some new changes and new staff, while keeping some things that don’t need to be changed the same. Good luck and safe travels through the time and space of 2021! #grateful #2020 #livelovelaugh #bestwishes #supportsmallbusiness #supportregionalwa See more

01.01.2022 Today, as part of outlining our roadmap for the further easing of restrictions in WA, we had planned to announce a tentative date for the removal of WAs hard b...order. However, with the situation evolving in Victoria based on our health advice, we have decided to put that on hold. WA is already the most economically free and active State in Australia due to our relaxed restrictions, and with the Phase 4 and 5 changes weve just announced, that is set to continue. Our States handling and response to COVID-19 has been world-leading and soon, we will be able to enjoy the benefits of that response even more. But its important to acknowledge that our hard border has been an essential component for how quickly and significantly weve been able to make these changes. The current situation in Victoria is dire. Its extremely concerning. The spike in cases there is being closely monitored here. This is why a decision on our hard border will only ever be based on expert health advice. If Victoria has taught us anything in the last few days, its that the worst thing that could occur right now is the reintroduction of harsh restrictions in our community. It would devastate our local economy - more jobs would be lost, it would hurt small businesses and be very difficult for many of us to handle. Our hard border has been in place unashamedly to protect the health and well-being of Western Australians. It has allowed us to confidently ease restrictions more than any other State and open up our local economy. Throughout this crisis, I have communicated clearly and openly with the public of WA. I can tell you that the tentative date for the removal of the hard border was going to be the 8th of August. But right now, it would be irresponsible of me to earmark that date as our potential opening with the rest of the country. I wish I could give an indicative date today, but if I did, it would be against our health advice and quite frankly, it probably wouldnt hold. An indicative date will be set in the future, when its safe to do so. That date will take into account locally acquired infection rates in the eastern states. To be clear - the WA hard border will only be removed when the WA Chief Health Officer is confident the spread of infection is controlled in the eastern states. Our position is crystal clear on this. I know some businesses in the tourism and aviation industries are hurting I wish this wasnt the case. I can only urge every Western Australian, if they are in the position to travel and holiday in WA to support local tourism businesses do it. Think of it as your civic duty for your State. I know for some businesses, this is still not enough, but we will work with you and do what we can to help everyone get to the other side. Given the situation over east, I just cannot risk allowing the infection to return to WA and cause havoc. As we have all seen with COVID, it will devastate businesses and life as we know it. I will not risk the health of Western Australians and the potential damage to our economy, which is rebuilding now after the height of the pandemic. WA is moving ahead along our roadmap in a more progressive manner, both economically and socially. The Chief Health Officer is confident Western Australia can continue to move ahead of the national position because of our border controls and success to date. Our phased approach has allowed us to kick-start WAs economy. It has allowed us to progress even further. But we all need to be aware that the virus has not been eradicated, so we all have a personal responsibility to keep the community safe.
