25.01.2022 Tomorrow! Stand alongside First Nations communities affected by gas expansion and mobilise for COVID-safe events across the continent. As Australia reboots its economy in response to COVID-19 our Government has the opportunity to decide what our future will look like. We must use this opportunity to build a future we can all thrive in by creating clean jobs that care for country, climate and our communities.

24.01.2022 ! ! Email the Vice Chanellor NOW to share your views (see below). Students already pay huge fees to come to RMIT. Now RMIT has announced a proposal to slash funding for the library. We only have 4 more days to give our feedback on this. RMIT has set the deadline for this Friday 18th of September. If we can make our voices heard before then, we can stop these cuts. ... What is being proposed? *No library staff on the information desks NO skilled librarians available within the library. *A 72% staffing cut to the "Ask the Library" online chat service. *Closure of the Makerspace No more free laser cutting and 3D printing. *Removal of the Print Collection. No access to hard copy to support different learning styles. *A new Library Connect" - to replace expert advice from qualified librarians. What can I do? *Like and share this post. *Tell RMIT what you think by 18 September. *Email the Vice Chancellor [email protected] and copy RUSU in at [email protected] The more students submit feedback, the more pressure there will be on RMIT to stop these cuts and restore full library services. Not sure what to write? Weve prepared some points for you below. Use the points you agree with or add your own. *Email subject line: Students say no to library cuts *I am a student at RMIT. *The library is essential for our studies. *There have already been major cuts to the library and we dont want to see more cuts. *We need professional librarians to support us at all library campuses. *Professional librarians have expertise that we rely on to help us find tools and resources. *I know a lot of people use the library online chat service and we dont want to see it cut. *We dont want to see the print collection scrapped or reduced. Some students rely on the print collection and cant get equivalent resources online. *We need the makerspace to stay open. The technology within the makerspace is essential for some of our courses. Closing the makerspace will make it more expensive for some students to complete their coursework. *Most of my friends feel the same way.

22.01.2022 RUSU WINS! International Students... Are you currently stuck overseas, but still studying at RMIT? You may qualify for a 10% discount on your studies! The RMIT International Tuition Fee Bursary* offers a 10% discount to international students who are currently unable to come to Australia due to current Austral...ian border restrictions. *The bursary will only cover tuition fees, it will not apply to other fees or services such as the Student Services or Amenities Fee (SSAF). 19.01.2022 RUSU Grow Team is proud to present our new web series, Garden at Home! With spring on its way, its the perfect time to be setting up a garden space at home! Whether youve got a tiny balcony, a courtyard or a backyard available, its easy to set up a garden and grow your own food at home with low-cost and easily accessible materials, even during lockdown. Growing your own food is super satisfying, provides incredible benefits for your mental & physical health and looks after... our planet too. -- Written Instructions: Water your seedlings with a seaweed fertiliser before you transplant them. I diluted 30ml of seaweed fertiliser into a 9L watering can here. The seaweed will help to reduce the transplant shock for the plant when you re-plant it, but if you cant get seaweed fertiliser you can also just water it, it wont receive the same treatment that the fertiliser provides but the plants soil should be wet or moist when you transplant. Add some compost and organic fertiliser (as per the application rate on the bag) to the soil before planting. This will feed the plant and help it get settled and start growing in its new home. Ease the plant out of its pot by squeezing the edges gently so that the plant will fall out when tipped. You dont want to have to pull the plant out and cause stress to it. Create a hole deep enough so that the plants base will sit level with the soil when planted. Gently fill in the soil around the plant and create an even level in the pot, or in the garden bed where youre planting. Water again with seaweed fertiliser (or just water) and watch your seedling grow! Weve just planted mint mint tea, here we come! (Remember to keep watering it regularly for a healthy plant!) -- Music Credit: Those Early Days by Musikhalde Link: https://filmmusic.io/song/6584-those-early-days License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/

07.01.2022 The RUSU Student Life Awards is where we honour YOU, our amazing RMIT Students, for the contributions you make to student life at RMIT. Student life has looked a little different in 2020. Without an on-campus community, RMIT Students have had to adapt the ways they interact with one another, and redefine what Student Life means. Despite facing so much adversity, RMIT students have managed to pull together as a community throughout this time. In 2020, the Student Life Awards h...ave run a little differently, as we can't all be together for this wonderful event.
