25.01.2022 RMIT Students say NO to Uni Cuts! Sign the petition to show your opposition to Uni Cuts today: https://bit.ly/RMITStudentsFightBack RMIT is looking to cut their spending by $300 million in 2021. They’ve already frozen recruitment, sacked casual staff (many of whom are RMIT students), and asked staff to reduce working hours. And there are more cuts on the way. Alongside this, the Federal Government has announced an unprecedented change to the cost of higher education. While s...ome degrees, such as engineering, science and nursing will cost less, these courses still face harsh funding cuts that will affect the quality of the education these students receive. Degrees in law, commerce, business and economics will now cost 28% more, and the cost of communications and humanities degrees will DOUBLE. RMIT Students must fight back, we will not pay more for less. We will not stand by and allow a reduction in the quality of our education. There is too much at stake. 02.01.2022 Me again, Many students are seeking clarity around their Vocational Education courses. Yesterday, RMIT University has informed its staff, but not its students, ...of the following: - For VE programs with lectures, they will be available online by Monday 23 March. When available, students should log in to Canvas to attend class remotely as per the original class timetable. - For applied experiences, content will continue to be delivered via on campus and remote learning. - Decisions around practical and lab classes will be managed on a case-by-case basis and will depend upon the social distancing and additional cleaning measures that can be put in place. - Apprenticeships and traineeships will be managed on a case-by-case basis. - Information relating to classes, and tutorial options, as well as guidance about changes to program delivery will be made available to students on Canvas as soon as possible. - Due to existing VE regulatory requirements for assessment, participation and attendance, RMIT is working with Government and Regulators to ensure RMIT remains compliant and students are not disadvantaged. Rescheduled dates for intensive practical assessments will be established when students are able to return to campus. It is disappointing to see that once again, timely communication of vital information to students has not been seen as a priority for the university. This is just another example of how RMIT is unable to adequately balance the continuation of teaching activities alongside the transition to online learning. This has gone far enough. RMIT must pause classes so that staff can properly prepare their courses for online delivery. Stop making students choose between their health and their education! Daniel Hoogstra RUSU President

01.01.2022 ! ! Email the Vice Chanellor NOW to share your views (see below). Students already pay huge fees to come to RMIT. Now RMIT has anno...unced a proposal to slash funding for the library. We only have 4 more days to give our feedback on this. RMIT has set the deadline for this Friday 18th of September. If we can make our voices heard before then, we can stop these cuts. What is being proposed? *No library staff on the information desks NO skilled librarians available within the library. *A 72% staffing cut to the "Ask the Library" online chat service. *Closure of the Makerspace No more free laser cutting and 3D printing. *Removal of the Print Collection. No access to hard copy to support different learning styles. *A new Library Connect" - to replace expert advice from qualified librarians. What can I do? *Like and share this post. *Tell RMIT what you think by 18 September. *Email the Vice Chancellor [email protected] and copy RUSU in at [email protected] The more students submit feedback, the more pressure there will be on RMIT to stop these cuts and restore full library services. Not sure what to write? We’ve prepared some points for you below. Use the points you agree with or add your own. *Email subject line: Students say no to library cuts *I am a student at RMIT. *The library is essential for our studies. *There have already been major cuts to the library and we don’t want to see more cuts. *We need professional librarians to support us at all library campuses. *Professional librarians have expertise that we rely on to help us find tools and resources. *I know a lot of people use the library online chat service and we don’t want to see it cut. *We don’t want to see the print collection scrapped or reduced. Some students rely on the print collection and can’t get equivalent resources online. *We need the makerspace to stay open. The technology within the makerspace is essential for some of our courses. Closing the makerspace will make it more expensive for some students to complete their coursework. *Most of my friends feel the same way.
