23.01.2022 Many clients have been asking me recently if Remedial Massage will be affected by the government reforms to private health insurance rebates taking effect in April. As the article below states Remedial Massage and Myotherapy will not be effected by these reforms. http://www.health.gov.au//private-health-insurance-reforms

23.01.2022 April is just around the corner and it is one of the busiest months for massage. Why is that you might wonder? Well the fluctuations in temperature at this time of year are the reason, it takes a healthy person 2 weeks for their body to adapt to a sudden rise or fall in temperature so when the temperature is fluctuating our bodies simply dont have time to adapt. The muscles in our upper back and neck are particularly sensitive to cold and can go into spasm suddenly from getting a chill. So wearing a scarf if you are heading out on a cold morning and wearing warm PJs at night can help you avoid ending up with a pain in the neck.

22.01.2022 I have just received further clarification on the governments confusing statement about the new restrictions that mean I have to shutdown as my industry is not recognised by medicare. I am saddened to know I will be unable to help people who really need me during this time, hopefully all these measures will help to slow the spread and life will return to normal for all of us again soon.

22.01.2022 Heat or Ice which one should you use when you have pain? Think about how you feel having a warm shower compared to a cold one, as soon as that cold water hits you your muscles all start to tense up. Heat brings blood flow to the injury and with it the nutrients muscles, tendons and ligaments need to heal. New research has found that icing injuries might actually have a long term negative impact on injuries. http://physicaltherapyweb.com/paradigm-shifts-use-ice-nsai/

17.01.2022 Incorrect workstation setup can cause a range of problems including headaches, migraines, neck and back pain, Sciatic pain, numbness and tingling in the arms. Here are some simple tips for an ergonomic workstation: - Keyboard and mouse should be positioned so you can reach them with your elbows at 90 degrees and in line with your shoulders and ears.... - Hips and knees should be at 90 degrees and feet flat on the floor or footrest. - Your eyes should be level with the top 3rd of the monitor and the monitor should be directly in front of you. - If you have to turn to face more than one monitor or to use things beside the computer make sure you swivel your chair so your spine stays straight, NOT twisting your neck or waist.

17.01.2022 I always have and always will be committed to ensuring the safety of my clients, particularly in this current environment. These are a few of the ways in which I am minimising risk, I also wash all linen and towels in hospital grade detergent as an extra measure above what is expected by my association.

17.01.2022 I have temporarily turned off my online bookings in order to survey clients regarding COVID-19 before booking. Please phone if you need to make an appointment. I will not be taking any new clients until further notice.

16.01.2022 Moving day is just around the corner! All appointments from Mon 24 Feb will be at 20 Rogers Street, Wentworthville. Entry via the front door.

16.01.2022 I am very excited to announce that I have received my Specialist Myotherapist Certification. To achieve this my practice had to undergo multiple assessments and an audit to ensure I am meeting best practice standards in all aspects of my business operation.

16.01.2022 OPEN FOR BUSINESS In light of the current situation I wanted to let everyone know that following advice from my association I will be remaining open until advised otherwise. I am taking additional measures on top of usual hygiene practices to minimise risk of exposure to covid-19 by doing things such as disinfecting door handles regularly and spraying the room with Glen 20. If you have booked an appointment and are unable to attend for any reason I do not charge a cancellation fee. If you have been overseas in the past two weeks, have been exposed to covid-19 and havent been tested or are showing symptoms please do not attend.

12.01.2022 If you suffer from regular calf cramps there are some simple things you can do to that may help prevent them. Cramps can be a sign of dehydration, which affects circulation, so if you dont drink enough water this might be the cause of your cramping. They can also be a sign of deficiency in calcium or magnesium, which your nerves need to function properly, in which case supplements might help. ... Or they can be brought on by tight muscles in the lower back pinching on a nerve or blood vessel, in this case a good massage will help. (If you dont get relief from these or have calf cramps that last for a prolonged period of time see your doctor.)

12.01.2022 Online bookings are back! I have incorporated the COVID-19 questions into the booking form and set up breaks between each appointment to allow time for cleaning, I will also now be taking new clients. Time slots are still limited while I am homeschooling, but hopefully in the coming weeks I will be able to open up more slots.

10.01.2022 Todays video demonstrates how to make a simple heatpack using things you already have at home. As discussed in my last post heat is the best thing to use for pain relief.

09.01.2022 If you have anxiety or depression massage can assist you to manage your symptoms. Research shows that massage decreases cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and increases serotonin and dopamine levels (the feel good hormones). https://www.tandfonline.com//abs/10.1080/00207450590956459

09.01.2022 Kids spend a lot of time running around, falling over, crashing into things and jumping off anything they can climb. When they arent doing that they are carrying backpacks bigger than themselves. All of this can cause muscle pain, but kids often wont tell you if they have a sore back, neck or other muscle pain. If treated with massage it can help prevent this pain developing into more serious injuries in adulthood. There are a few signs to look out for though, suddenly becoming clumsy (constantly tripping over their own feet), having fidgety/restless legs, difficulty falling asleep, swimming into the lane ropes during swimming lessons. If your kid has always had some of these behaviours it may be the result of an injury caused during birth.

07.01.2022 I will be reopening my clinic from Tuesday 21st April, only taking existing clients for the moment and with reduced availability. For the moment I wont have online bookings available. Please message or call if you wish to book.

03.01.2022 The treatment room at 20 Rogers Street Wentworthville is all set up and ready for tomorrow.

03.01.2022 If your neck could do with a good stretch this video is for you...
