25.01.2022 A song for your weekend from Sonia Aimy, Nigerian/Canadian singer & activist. Next week I'll be sharing some snippets of an interview with Sonia, a sneak peak of her upcoming single and a collaboration. In the meantime, 'Nigerian Spirit' is a wonderful example of Sonia's fierce conviction, songwriting and passion for her country and culture.... You can follow her and her inspirational story here: linktr.ee/sonia_aimy #GlobalMusicMatch #Nigeria

23.01.2022 Spent much of this week driving myself BONKERS designing a new website There are some great links to trad song archives and all the videos are now in one spot. Sadly no gigs to announce, though I DID pencil one in for July next year, just in case ... The website also contains info about my various and sometimes strange folkloric goings on. Please subscribe if you want to get occasional emails from me. Thanks to Don Williams for putting up with me and configuring the configury bits. http://ruthhazleton.com.au

20.01.2022 "...stunningly gorgeous... cinematic and hypnotic..." Thank you so much Ian Dearden for this wonderful review in the latest issue of Trad And Now. Now that lockdown has lifted here in Melbourne, I'm tentatively daring to consider being able to bring this album live to audiences somehow... one day.

19.01.2022 Thanks to Majors Creek Festival for this wonderful opportunity to kick off a month of amazing music! Recorded in strict lockdown with no access to band members, I indulged in a bit of electronic landscaping.

19.01.2022 Big fun penning a verse for the The Maes’ project. Check the website to submit a verse of your own and here the recorded song!

16.01.2022 Today’s vibe (after 17 weeks of school at home, #melbournelockdown , busted oven and dodgy internet). Perfectly portrayed by Evie the #Spanador (how cute is she?!) . One of these days I just might manage to again Bring on the holidays!

09.01.2022 A great honour and a truly global collaboration, this song ‘Sel Senapa’ came from the repertoire of our current feature artist Sonia Aimy. It’s an Australian Indigenous song of farewell. When Sonia wrote to me about this song initially she added an interpretation: ‘When the sun sets love, We'll say goodbye, But I'll see you again’.... I am very grateful to Jose Calarco and Descendance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance Theatre for giving us their blessing to sing ‘Sel Senapa’ for Global Music Match. Sonia’s guitarist in Italy recorded the guitar part (Mario Posella), Sonia added it to it from Ontario, Canada, and I added my final part in Naarm (Melbourne) Australia. It’s been a real treat getting to know Sonia through this process. She has an album ‘Reconnect’ coming out in coming months and new single ‘Salaam Alaikum Baba’ a song of hope and community. Links to Sonia’s work and pre-sales for the new single in the comments. I hope we get to see her perform live here in Australia some day! #GlobalMusicMatch #GlobalMusicMatch2021 #soundsaustralia #collaboration

01.01.2022 When I'm not immersed in music, I'm often dabbling in projects and work related to folklore. The latest is the Pandemic Play Project - an article about which was published in yesterday's Sydney Morning Herald. If you're a parent, teacher or grandparent, please have a look and consider helping us document childhood culture during the Pandemic. ... Pass it on!
