22.01.2022 If you have trees growing over your fence from a neighbours yard you are legally allowed to prune them back to the boundary under local regulations - Dividing Fences Act. But, it is always prudent to have a yarn to the neighbour and advise them and definitely do not enter their property to do trimming without permission. With some old fashioned courtesy you may even get some help with the job and everyone ends up happy.

14.01.2022 Garden Maintenance in Winter In North Qld, our brief Winter is the time when our greenery slows its growth after the vigorous growth spurt generated by the wet season rains. If your shrubs, trees and garden beds have 'bushed up' during summer, the additional foliage will make them hungry for nutrients and water. Now is the time to prune, thin and remove any dead branches, fronds, weeds and overgrowth. While the plants in in relevant dormancy and the weather is nice and cool,... it's the perfect time to do some much needed maintenance. Pruning and mulching have a two-fold affect: reducing the overall nutrient and water requirements by reducing foliage and ensuring water which is added, remains in the ground keeping root mass hydrated and viable by providing a protective blanket. When combined with well-chosen supplements such as slow-release pellitised fertislisers, your plants will survive on less water (due to seasonal restrictions) and be primed to spring back when the rains return. The relatively drier months provide the opportunity to clean up all of that mould, lichen and moss that ravaged your pathways and outdoor surfaces leaving them green and slimy. There are many products available to treat problem areas without breaking into a sweat or sending harmful chemicals flooding into the waterways. It's a beautiful time to be out enjoying the blue skies and cooler days. If you'd like a hand to get things under control and have your garden looking its best, drop me a line. Ruth

03.01.2022 Time to create a green oasis for native birds. All they need in these hot months is a little pool to bathe and drink. Let me help you bring in the birds!

01.01.2022 Jade vine will be coming into flower later in the season. A beautiful import from Asia. This one growing in my garden and for the first time will flower on my newly-constructed arbour.
