18.01.2022 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and for many people around the world, it can be a time of sorrow as they are reminded of what was taken away from them by cancer's merciless force. Looking back on photos of fond memories is one way people try and reconnect with lost loved ones, giving photographers the honour of serving people's lives in this special way. This is what gives me meaning and significance whenever I go out to take photographs for people. A photo is time s...tanding still for a change, a momentary yet eternal record bearing witness to life, where even the greatest of complexities and afflictions that burden us are silenced by a simple smile. In the UK, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 10 minutes. In Australia, 8 woman die from breast cancer every day. It is the most common form of cancer for woman. These statistics are unfathomable, and make us forget about that smile from an hour ago. But, that is only one side of the story. October can also be a month of great hope and optimism. The National Breast Cancer Foundation, together with many other like-minded groups, are working towards achieving zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. To help them achieve this goal, Ruws Photography will proudly be running a charity drive to raise funds to support their research. For every booking received between now and the 10th of November, Ruws Photography will be donating $50 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. While their goal may seem ambitious to some, for many others it couldn't come anytime sooner - unless we try, we will never know. So can I encourage you to wear your pink ribbon today and share the message. Together we can make more happy memories for everyone.
