11.05.2022 Storms can be extremely dangerous if you are out on the water. So what do you do if a storm suddenly appears? Here's a great article with lots of handy tips on staying safe if you are caught in a thunderstorm by Club Marine. The advice in the article might just save your life: https://www.clubmarine.com.au//articles/24-5-When-lightnin

12.04.2022 This is not quite correct, Coastal Patrol Point Turton Rescue Vessel Patrol 109 is NOT getting the AVL system installed because it is NOT a Government Funded Vessel :-( . The Coastal Patrol Port Victoria Rescue Vessel PV01 WILL be getting AVL installed :-) .

23.03.2022 After a lot of consideration, sadly we need to announce that this years Annual Easter Fishing Competition will NOT go ahead. The competition is the Patrols big...gest fundraiser, this decision was not made lightly. Current Covid restrictions do not permit using the facilities for this event. Due to the amount of funding and organisation needed for the competition to go ahead, and being unsure of what the restrictions will be over the Easter long weekend it is in the Patrols best interest to cancel this years event. We thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing everyone next year with a bigger and better fishing competition.

21.03.2022 Search for missing man on Kayak 07-02-2022. 28.02.2022 Around 1 p.m. today Port Lincoln State Emergency Service volunteers where responded to debris in the water. On further investigation they realised that a barri...er that was being used to keep people away from the repairs on the swim pontoon had been thrown into the water. To person(s) who thought it would be funny to do this please be mindful that our volunteers left work today. This was a waste of valuable time given by the volunteers and a loss of time to their employers. If a vessel travelling at speed hit this partially submerged barrier the consequences could have been severe both to the vessel and the person's on board. The barrier was towed to the stenross boat ramp where council retrieved it. #volunteers #makingadifference

25.01.2022 Even with the current mild weather, a SEVERE TOTAL FIRE BAN has been declared for the YORKE PENINSULA district today, November 28th The CFS recommends that ...you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan. FIRE DANGER RATING Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Severe, well prepared and actively defended houses can offer safety during a fire. BUSHFIRE PLAN If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option. In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions. Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight. Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions. For further information contact the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1800 362 361 or visit www.cfs.sa.gov.au

19.01.2022 If you have a barometer on your boat, did you know that the Bureau of Meteorology now offers a service to allow you to calibrate it? For SA you'll need to be in Adelaide, Ceduna, Port Lincoln, Port Pirie or Whyalla. You can access the page here: http://www.bom.gov.au/marine/portairpressure.shtml A table provides links to the closest Automatic Weather Station for key ports around Australia. These weather stations update their barometric observations every half hour. You can then calibrate your marine barometer in real time and at regular intervals. 18.01.2022 #Covid19 still affecting the #cruise industry Following the CDCs (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) decision to extend the no sail order for all #cru...ise #ships carrying at least 250 passengers through the end of September, we created two heat maps powered by #MarineTraffic data to depict the positions of passenger ships over 49,999 gross tonnage from 15 June to 15 July this year, compared to the same period in 2019. The variations in colour prove that the movement of those vessels is obviously reduced this year due to COVID-19, which still seems to be affecting the industry significantly, as lots of cruise companies have already suspended their voyages until the end of September. For more details, find the report here: https://www.cdc.gov///s0716-cruise-ship-no-sail-order.html

06.01.2022 Two men have been found safe on North Page Island after a search near Kangaroo Island. About 2.30pm yesterday (Thursday 3 December) the two men set off from Cap...e Jervis headed towards Cape Willoughby to go fishing. They were expected to return around 6.30pm last night but did not return. Police were notified about 11.50pm and a search was commenced, using the police helicopter and a Challenger search and rescue plane from Victoria, provided by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). The plane's crew located the two men on North Page Island just before 8.30am today (Friday 4 December). The men's upturned vessel was located in waters nearby, and SAPOL's Water Operations Unit will coordinate the recovery of the boat. The two Cape Jervis men, aged 48 and 47 were taken to the Victor Harbor Hospital for a check-up, but were not injured. Inspector Gus Sickerdick, Hills Fleurieu LSA, urges the boating public to wear their flotation devices every time they go out. As happened with these two men, emergency situations can arise rapidly and you may not have time to grab your life jacket. Make sure you, and everyone on your boat, put it on and wear it whenever you are on the water.

01.01.2022 SHIP COLLIDES WITH LINCOLN WHARF A fertiliser ship, The Oldendorff, has had a close call with the Port Lincoln wharf this morning, as captured in this video.... A spokesperson from Flinders Ports Holdings has confirmed that, "there was a minor incident this morning at Port Lincoln". A ship, The Jonas Oldendorf, collided with the wharf at low speed. She had two tugs in attendance," they explained. Neither the wharf nor the ship sustained any structural damage and mooring was completed without further incident. Nobody was injured or at risk at any point. However, we will fully investigate the incident to ensure any errors are identified and remedied, the spokesperson said. Local photographer Max Coulson was on site taking photographs of the sunrise when he noticed the ship coming in at speed. He started recording video, capturing the moment that The Oldendorff comes in and nudges the wharf, bow first on the bridge. Take a look and turn your sound on for commentary by Max. Back in October 2010, container ship The Grand Rodosi came in and hit moored tuna fishing vessel The Apollo, which according to eyewitnesses, "opened like a can of beans". The ship kept moving after piercing the Apollo S and did significant damage to the Port Lincoln wharf. This is like watching a slow motion video in comparison. Revisit the 2010 collision >> www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2010/10/08/3033531.htm Used with permission via Max Coulson.
