24.01.2022 Congratulations to Dr Lorri Hopkins, deserving recipient of the RACGP Rural Faculty’s Brian Williams Award which acknowledges GPs whose mentoring and support helps rural GPs provide the highest possible standard of care for their patients. As an RVTS Medical Educator Lorri has designed and delivered skills-based workshop programs to hundreds of rural and remote doctors over the last decade. Lorri goes that extra mile to ensure events have an interactive focus, allowing time ...for the sharing of personal stories and anecdotes. This, in turn, fosters strong growth and development; her passion for general practice education is evident to all who attend these workshops. Well done Lorri, this award is great recognition of your dedication to rural general practice and commitment to rural and remote GP training. #ruralhealth #ruralGP #GPtraining RACGP #ruralhealthwa

20.01.2022 While few diagnoses we make are textbook cases, or clear cut decisions by being consciously aware of our thought processes, the risk of error can be reduced. Check out the latest RVTS4GPs podcast: 'A Case of Diagnostic Error' https://blog.rvts.org.au/a-case-of-diagnostic-error/ Dr Art Nahill and Dr Nic Szecket from IMReasoning join RVTS in discussion of a case in the form of a cognitive autopsy with all the benefits of hindsight. #RVTSgpTraining @FOAM4GP IMreasoning

20.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS TO TWO OF OUR LOCAL DOCTORS In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, I am pleased to have been notified of some positive local news. Two doctors fro...m our region have been accepted into the Remote Vocational Training Scheme, (RVTS) which will enable them to further their medical training while remaining in our communities. Dr Radhakrishnan Sreejith from the Oberon Medical Centre and Dr Taha Radwi from the Swift Street Medical Centre in Wellington, have been accepted into a GP training program, that allows them to continue to work in rural and remote communities and in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services. In these devastating times, training and retaining our health workforce has never been more critical so this is great news for our region. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, the RVTS training model supports doctors, many of whom work as solo practitioners, to continue to serve their patients in their home towns, while upskilling. Congratulations to Dr Sreejith and Dr Radwi and all those behind this fantastic program. Remote Vocational Training Scheme - RVTS https://rvts.org.au/

17.01.2022 Rational pathology emanates from a rational doctor. Whilst Pathology is useful in assisting with coming to a diagnosis, monitoring patients and for screening, unnecessary tests can cause harm to patients and add significantly to health costs. 11.01.2022 Response posted on behalf of Dr Lorri Hopkins: Thanks to every one of you for your kind words and best wishes. Winning this prestigious RACGP award is an enormous honour, particularly since Dr Williams was such a great advocate for general practice in rural and remote Australia. Rural medical education at all levels and the need for rural GPs to support their peers is so important. Kind regards Lorri

01.01.2022 'To mask or not to mask' that is the question we ponder in the latest RVTS4GPs blog. Should general practitioners wear face masks? Should patients at high risk of serious outcomes from infection with COVID 19 wear a face mask? Is it necessary for the general population to wear a face-mask?... In this month’s blog, we look at these questions with Drs Taras Mikulin and Sara Fergusson. View here: https://blog.rvts.org.au/to-mask-or-not-to-mask/ #RVTSGPtraining
