Quality printing can last up to 100 years, so when were long-gone those to follow may stumble upon that dusty shoebox in the attic, that old album, and will relive the faded memories of our lives, perhaps even memories of who we were. An artist cannot spend every waking hour sitting a few feet away from the masters - such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Velasquez, Goya and Fortuny - and be unmoved nor unchanged. This was my daily ritual whilst in Spain. The #pradomuseum became my second home and the security guards would often say hi. Standing or seated, Id take out my sketch pad and Id attempt to capture a rendition of an old painting. 21.01.2022 Watching earth from space from NASAs space station live a few days ago was mesmerising and also unnerving. Other humans precariously floating, nothing below their astronaut boots except that all-too-familiar view of earth. A rock poised and spinning in space, surrounded by vast nothingness. Dark matter. 16.01.2022 A voluntary hiatus from social media and an involuntary hiatus from social life - due to reasons of pandemicity - made for a decent period of painting and just being. With no expectations, no deadlines, no workshops, no external pressures one can paint freely. Now we just wait for a return to normal; our life prepandemic. The light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel for many. If and when that becomes a reality once again, perhaps these quarantine paintings will have their day in an exhibition of some sort. 10.01.2022 This old nautical divider was found at a vintage flea market in Sweden. Its solid iron, significantly heavy and no doubt been on a myriad of voyages at sea. Historically the design of dividers underwent refinements that made it an important drafting instrument for Albrecht Drer and Leonardo da Vinci; Leonardo suggested improvements that included the hinge (to increase rigidity) and the adjustable proportional divider (Roman proportional dividers had a fixed pivot that gave ...only one ratio). Leonardos notes also show the beam compass with a screw adjustment for large radii, as well as a compass that had interchangeable points, in which one leg had a clamp for different drawing media, such as graphite or chalk. #proportionaldivider #leonardodavinci #nautical #oilpainting

Well-thought-out opinions require a nature of caution and humility in that new knowledge and additional insight may prove them wrong. Hence, the most rational rarely seem characterized by conceited assertiveness and dogmatism. Confident, but alas, cautious. Contraraily, the vocal and opinionated dont appear burdened with the thoug...ht they may be wrong and are thus free to unapologetically commit to fixed and unchallengeable ideas. Then again, the most vocal and emotional rhetorical does sell to the masses.
