25.01.2022 On ABC News explaining that I have written to the Health Care Complaints Commission calling on them to investigate the latest serious incident to occur at Bowral Hospital. People are dying when they shouldn’t be in rural hospitals across NSW because of a lack of resources and understaffing. It’s why I pushed so hard for the parliamentary inquiry that will begin next year focussed on what is happening in terms of health and hospital services across rural NSW and more importantly what needs to be done to fix it.

25.01.2022 The best part of where I have lived all my life is it’s people. They care about others and are the first to get in and do their bit. To see so many people come out and get tested is a credit to our community and the nature of the residents who call it home.... We are urgently trying to get the NSW Govt to set up more clinics to take the pressure of the existing sites but my heartfelt thanks to everyone who got out there and did their but for themselves, their family and their community! Very grateful to all of you!

25.01.2022 The Liverpool Hospital upgrade and Health Academic Precinct, which includes an expanded emergency department and integrated cancer centre, won’t be complete until 2026. This project must be fast tracked because it means local trades jobs in the short-term and better health outcomes in the long-term.

25.01.2022 The Government only has itself to blame for the elective surgery backlog. The reality is the NSW public health system was under enormous strain before elective surgeries were suspended. This crisis has been years in the making.

25.01.2022 Our frontline health workers have been simply brilliant this year. Every time our community has faced another challenge from COVID they have been doing their best to keep us safe and keep people in jobs. Our firefighters were the heroes of last summer and this time I reckon it goes to our our health workers.... Thank you from a very grateful community.

24.01.2022 You may have heard a story in today’s media about an issue involving a student at Figtree High School. Yes the behaviour of a single student is concerning and I am confident after speaking with the Principal that the necessary measures will be put in place to deal with the individual student and any other students impacted. But I will also say this about Figtree High School - Official as someone who has had a close relationship with the school for nearly a decade.... It is a world class educational facility with hardworking and dedicated staff, supportive parents and terrific students who are a credit to themselves and their school. Schools, like many organisations at the moment are going through challenging times. But I know at Figtree High they have the students best interest at the forefront of everything they do and today will be no different as they work through these challenges.

24.01.2022 Today is Vietnam Veterans Day. An opportunity for me to remember the sacrifices of brave young diggers like my father in law, Philip Lamond. The stories of his time spent fighting in the jungles of Vietnam are both moving and confronting. To all of you who served, we thank you and commit to never forget the enormous sacrifices you made for our country.

24.01.2022 I understand there are lengthy queues in place at the Wollongong Hospital testing clinic. I have contacted the Minister to see if the hours can can be expanded to cater for the very large number of people who have done the right thing already and got to a testing centre. Below is a list of testing centres currently in place (times may vary due to Xmas Period) and I will keep you informed if these change at all.... Stay safe and get tested if you have even the most mildest of symptoms. Wollongong testing clinics: Wollongong Hospital, Lawson House, Loftus Street, Wollongong - open Monday to Friday 8am-6pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am-4.30pm Wollongong 4Cyte Pathology drive-through, 406 Crown St, Wollongong - open Monday to Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 11am-2pm, Sunday 10am-1pm Wollongong Laverty Pathology drive-through, 138-142 Kembla St, Wollongong - open Monday to Friday 8am-4pm Balgownie Laverty Pathology, Shop 5, 145 Balgownie Rd, Balgownie - open Monday to Friday 12.30pm-4pm

23.01.2022 A hospital system that is in complete and utter crisis. When our nurses and midwives take action simply to try and make sure patients are safe you know the health system in NSW is very sick.

23.01.2022 In the past 12 months, the community has faced enormous mental health challenges from bushfires and drought to COVID and the recession. Labor is calling for a Royal Commission into Mental Health and Suicide. We want to hear people's stories so we can reform a system in crisis.

22.01.2022 Coronavirus: NSW Labor is calling on the state government to ensure hotel quarantine arrangements are safe and secure after a Sydney city hotel housing returned... travellers under coronavirus guidelines was evacuated after it failed a routine audit. The 366 guests will now be relocated to 15 other facilities across the city. "I'm very concerned and the community is very concerned that we could see a situation over the coming days and weeks where this virus escapes from these facilities. You know you've got a problem with what you're doing when in the middle of a pandemic, you decide the situation is so bad that 366 people are removed from what should be a secure facility, secure location, and spread to other hotels across the city." - Ryan Park for Keira - NSW Shadow Health Minister More: 7news.link/32rPlnU #Coronavirus #7NEWS

22.01.2022 The future is in safe hands with young people like Dylan, School Captain of Keira High School. Dylan is doing his HSC, school captain duties and also a volunteer with the RFS.

22.01.2022 What do you think the future of our region should look like? I am born and bred in the Illawarra. I love living here and it’s an honour to be able to represent my local community in the oldest Parliament in Australia. Putting forward ideas and initiatives to improve our community is a big part of my role but I know I don’t have all the answers and since I was elected I have had the opportunity to listen to so many worthwhile ideas from community members, local organisations a...nd business operators about how we can make our region even better. The NSW Department of Planning has released an interactive website that will begin the engagement with the local community on the updated draft Regional Plan that will be released later on in the year for community feedback. I encourage everyone to click on the website, www.planning.nsw.gov.au/ISRP and have a look at the interactive map and watch the videos. I intend on making a submission later in the year and it would be great if as many locals as possible could do the same.

22.01.2022 You might remember last week I let you know that I was starting a buy another bag initiative to support the community pantry at Bellambi Neighbourhood Centre. The initiative is simply about asking those in the community who are able to buy another bag of fresh fruit, vegetables or meat for locals who might be doing it tough and rely on the discounted food and groceries available at the centre. Well, some good news. When I was down at the centre earlier today to drop off som...e more groceries that my family purchased they told me that they have been overwhelmed by the generosity of so many locals who have made donations. A big shout out to Corrimal Lions Club who when they heard about the initiative have once again got behind the centre and will be donating a staggering $2000 worth of groceries! Thanks so much! Remember if you can buy another bag you are providing direct relief for those in our community struggling to make ends meet at this very difficult time. Thanks to all of you who have supported this initiative so far and let’s see if we can get even more donations over the next week.

21.01.2022 The following restrictions will tonight be introduced from 11:59pm, Sunday 20 December 2020 for the greater Sydney region and the Central Coast, Illawarra-Shoalhaven, and Nepean Blue Mountains: Household gatherings will be limited to 10 visitors (until 11:59pm Wednesday 23 December). The one person per four square metre rule will be re-introduced for all indoor settings including hospitality venues and places of worship.... A cap of 300 people will apply for hospitality venues and places of worship. Singing and chanting at indoor venues will not be allowed. Dancefloors will not be permitted, except for weddings, when a maximum of 20 from the bridal party will be permitted.

21.01.2022 Wollongong LGA still in the Greater Sydney despite not having any cases for months. Newcastle is around the same distance from the hotspot but they aren’t included? We haven’t received any specific advice as to why Wollongong LGA has been included in these restrictions. ... I understand locals frustration and Paul Scully MP and I will continue to raise this issue with the Govt.

20.01.2022 I think many of us let out a big sigh of relief when this little fella was found late this afternoon. Well done to all the emergency service personnel, volunteers and local community members involved.

20.01.2022 I am pleased to have secured $15,000 towards this new playground equipment for Austinmer Public School.

20.01.2022 Happy New Year!! I hope 2021 is far more positive for everyone. I would particularly like to thank our health workers both here and across NSW who even tonight, are working around the clock to keep our community safe. Thanks so much to my community for giving me the privilege to be your representative in Australia’s oldest parliament. ... Your support, advice and encouragement, especially this year has been really appreciated. Stay safe and keep looking after each other as we try and put the challenges of 2020 behind us.

20.01.2022 Nice to get the traditional summer uniform on for today’s media interview about the Govt’s absurd decision to keep Wollongong on restrictions as part of Greater Sydney .

19.01.2022 Happy birthday to my beautiful sister Kylie Park. We love you lots and lots and miss you all so much!

18.01.2022 Happy to work with Cr Jenelle Rimmer to help upgrade the facilities at Bellambi Rosellas FC and pleased to have secured $65,000 towards the new lighting for the Rosellas. I look forward to watching them at a game soon.

17.01.2022 Last year I met with a gentlemen called Troy. He told my colleague Tim Crakanthorp MP and I that he had been living out his car for such a long time and he relied on charity so that he and his partner could get something to eat. When our Parliament was effectively shut off from the public I thought of Troy and what we could do to help vulnerable people like him during this awful time. I approached the Speaker of the Parliament about using the commercial kitchens and catering... team to use their culinary skills to provide great quality, ready to eat meals for those experiencing hardship and homelessness. I was delighted to receive an update that as of yesterday 82,873 meals had been prepared. I have been thinking of Troy today and hoping that he was doing better, but I also wanted to thank him for telling me his story and that it inspired me to try and make a small difference. Thanks mate.

17.01.2022 C’mon Premier, these confusing messages are not helping our community who have done so well in terms of following your health orders. Clear communication during a pandemic is critical. Let’s improve this going forward.

17.01.2022 Shout out to Willow from Corrimal East Public School and her cousin Amy from Lindsay Park Public School for helping their Nanna Pat pick out presents for my annual toy drive. The adults from their families donated their Christmas Santa money this year for the toys. This really is what Christmas is about! Thank you Willow, Amy & Pat. Only a few days left for donations. #ryanparktoydrive

16.01.2022 Paul Scully MP and I have again written to the Premier asking that the Wollongong local government area be taken out of the current restrictions. We haven’t had local transmissions for months now and our local economy desperately needs a boost to keep businesses open and locals in jobs. Let’s hope common sense prevails and the Premier reconsiders this decision.

16.01.2022 Gladys, I totally disagree with you on this one. I support local manufacturing and support local jobs. Anyone one else think we should support NSW made?

16.01.2022 One of the reasons I have pushed so hard for an inquiry into rural hospitals and health services is because the situation is at crisis point. It’s not good enough to stand by and do nothing whilst those living in our towns and villages across rural NSW put up with a second rate health system.... Over 700 submissions have been made and I am looking forward to hearings commencing early this year so we can give this issue the attention it deserves.

15.01.2022 Today’s front page of the SunHerald where I have called on the Government and business to make sure they have masks available in key areas such as the public transport network, in our shopping centres and supermarkets. Before we resort to handing out fines let’s start by handing out masks. Stay safe and let’s all do our bit to help save lives and livelihoods.

15.01.2022 Wollongong bar the Swallowed Anchor was visited by two positive cases on Saturday December 19. Anyone who attended the venue on that date must get tested immediately and self-isolate until contacted by NSW Health. This is NOT a reflection on this business and please DO NOT start attacking or blaming this local venue.... This is the nature of COVID and the fact we do not have mass vaccination rolled out at this stage. Stay safe, get tested, protect lives and livelihoods.

15.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to my fantastic Dad! The best fella I have ever met!

14.01.2022 We are at a critical point in our response to the pandemic. NSW must learn the lessons from Victoria where 90% of all second wave cases can be linked back to slip ups in the hotel quarantine arrangements. It’s no good building a fortress if we end up leaving the back door open. Hotel quarantine is meant to be a bubble. ... Quarantine security guards must be employed full-time and not working at other locations. ABC News

14.01.2022 I am pleading with local residents, please, please don’t do this. There are vulnerable people in our community who may only get to the shops once a week. Please think of these folks who may be your neighbours, your family members or friends. ... There is no need to do it so please don’t.

14.01.2022 Liz Hayes’ interviewed me this week for what I hope will be a moving episode on Sunday night highlighting the real issues rural and regional communities face when it comes to accessing health care. For over 12 months I have called on the Government to support an inquiry into second class healthcare that many families in country NSW experience every day. This is above politics and I have been advocating that such an inquiry start now well before the lead up to an election.... I want to personally thank the many families who have contacted me. Your stories have made me determined to get a result. I am hopeful that as a Parliament we can put this issue under the microscope and commit to improving the situation so that the ability for people to access good quality hospital and health care isn’t determined by their postcode.

14.01.2022 Here is the latest update. Remember masks will now be compulsory for indoor venues such as shopping centres, public transport and places of worship. This is what Labor has been calling on the Government to do for months. Masks save lives and livelihoods. ... Stay safe everyone.

14.01.2022 Cancer is something that has taken too many and impacted on many more. Normally I’d be out supporting local Cancer Council NSW volunteers but Covid means that can’t happen this year. If you can please still show your support with a small donation

14.01.2022 At the moment if you have been to The Swallowed Anchor on this day get tested. When Ryan and Annah get back up and running go and support them. Small businesses like this are sometimes the hidden victims of this pandemic.... Let’s ensure these guys know our community looks after one another. I am sure they could use some positive messages of support right now.

13.01.2022 Updated advice folks. Please stay informed and follow the advice to keep yourself, your family and the community safe.

13.01.2022 Amazing. The Premier getting angry that people arent following the rules. This from the leader who didn’t isolate even though she had symptoms and had a test.... For over a month now we have been saying that tougher measures should be in place for airline crew given their exposure risk. But we have been criticised. You were warned about these issues Premier, start listening.

13.01.2022 The world has lost a remarkable woman. She was more than just a trailblazer, she was an inspiration.

13.01.2022 And that is a wrap! Thank you to everyone who donated to my toy drive, your generosity has been incredible especially after a very difficult year. Special thanks to Fab, owner of Bungalow OOSH for donating his time and van to help us deliver the thousands of toys. ... There will be some very happy kids on Christmas morning.

12.01.2022 I have been out this morning and seen firsthand the very long lines for testing. Paul Scully MP and I have again spoken with the Minister earlier this morning and advocated for additional clinics particularly in the north and south of the city. These will be established as soon as possible and I will keep you informed after each of the discussions we have with the Minister and Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District Stay safe, get tested and be respectful to our frontline health workers who are doing their very best to keep us all safe.

12.01.2022 For Illawarra residents concerned about today’s confirmed COVID case see below information from GPT about locations in Wollongong Central as well as additional locations across the region. Stay safe and get tested immediately if you have any symptoms. This virus doesn’t take a break over the holiday period please make sure we all do the right thing to protect lives and livelihoods.

11.01.2022 On Sky News Australia this afternoon talking about New Year’s Eve,Test Cricket and the need to increase our testing levels. Stay safe everyone and a big thanks to the health workers who are working around the clock to protect our community.

11.01.2022 This is a big step on what has been a long journey. I want to thank everyone who has helped advocate for properly managed mountain bike trails in appropriate areas across the escarpment. We can make our region a destination for cycling tourism across the country and the world but more importantly we can provide locals with the opportunities to get outdoors and to explore our local environment.... Still a lot of work ahead of us but we are on the right track!

11.01.2022 I am blown away by the generosity of this community. Today is the last day I am collecting toys and my office is overflowing to the point that we resemble a toy store rather than an office. Thank you to Big Fat Smile preschools at Bulli and Corrimal, Casey from Northern Illawarra Family Day Care, Ray from Grevillia Park, Gus & Joel for the Ukadelic's (and Patrick who heard what they were doing when they were in Haworth and donated another two).

11.01.2022 Good to see the NSW Govt focusing on the fact we are in the middle of a pandemic. Absolutely disgusting and the community have every right to be furious.

11.01.2022 Peter Newell OAM was more than a newspaper man, he was a fierce advocate for our community. He made sure that our newspaper, the Illawarra Mercury reflected the concerns, stories, challenges and wishes of the region. The Illawarra will miss him greatly and we are a better community because of the contribution he made. Vale Peter Newell OAM.

11.01.2022 So proud of this little fella. Today he and his mates from Wollongong Tech Waratahs Rugby Club won the Illawarra District Rugby Juniors knockout and finished their season undefeated. Yesterday, his Corrimal Cougars Junior Rugby League Football Club team also finished undefeated.... Thanks to these two terrific local clubs for making a difficult year a little special for the kids.

11.01.2022 Remember, COVID testing is free of charge you should never be required to pay a fee to be tested.

11.01.2022 Paul Scully MP and I have this evening had a discussion with the Health Minister about the situation regarding the confirmed Wollongong case. Additional pop up clinics will be established and as soon as we have a list we will let people know. The Minister understands that this is a priority for our community and I can assure you we will push to get these clinics set up as fast as possible. Make sure you are following the NSW Health social media platforms and remember, any s...ymptoms no matter how slight, get tested. Thanks for your patience and we will keep you you updated. Thanks RP

10.01.2022 As previously outlined we have spoken to the Health Minister about the need for additional clinics and I am please that the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District has responded so quickly working in conjunction with our local Council. See below the additional clinics and the times they are available. Stay safe everyone and please get tested if you have even very mild symptoms.

09.01.2022 I didn’t back the winner but it was terrific to be with so many other locals and visitors at Kembla Grange Racecourse to watch the million dollar race, The Gong! Well done to staff and officials from the Illawarra Turf Club for not only hosting this event but for also ensuring everyone was COVID Safe.

08.01.2022 Since the beginning of construction for the new Bulli Hospital I have advocated that the new facility needs to recognise the history of a hospital built by the community for the community. Really pleased to see this history recognised through these terrific story boards.

08.01.2022 How does this bloke still have a job?

07.01.2022 On 10 News First Sydney this evening calling on the Premier to get the hotel quarantine chaos resolved. This is literally our last line of defence and to have hundreds of people relocated because the hotel wasn’t appropriate is very concerning given these sites should be some of the most secure areas in the country right now.

06.01.2022 In Anna Caldwell's story in today's Daily Telegraph I once again emphasise that the job of keeping quarantine hotels secure should not be a part- time one. Anna is right, we can't afford to let our guard down when it comes to this virus, especially at these high risk locations.

06.01.2022 Big shout out to Malea Castrissios from Figtree Public School for winning the Keira Leadership Award. You and your family have made such an enormous contribution to this terrific local school over so many years. Well done and all the very best for high school!

05.01.2022 My community knows all too well how important it is for our local Surf Clubs to have good lifesaving equipment. On the weekend we saw another tragic loss of a life. This is the second incident we have had in the past few months. This is terribly sad for the families who have lost a loved one. My condolences to them.... It is also difficult for those first responders. I extend my heartfelt thanks to each of them. Today I was pleased to announce $10,000 for Bellambi SLSC to be able to purchase a new All-Terrain Vehicle. This will allow them to quickly respond to rescues along the stretch of their beach. Thanks to Club President Craig Kershaw and the volunteers at Bellambi for their dedication and I wish them the best for the summer season ahead.

05.01.2022 Thanks to the legends from Bellambi Rosellas FC for donating 6 soccer balls to my toy drive! Appreciate your community spirit! #ryanparktoydrive

05.01.2022 About to talk to the media out the front of the new testing clinic just established at the UOW Innovation Campus. There is another one on the main campus at the UOW: University of Wollongong, Australia Thanks to our local health district and the UOW for establishing these new sites to assist locals. ... Stay safe , get tested.

04.01.2022 Absolutely not! I LOVE daylight savings!

04.01.2022 Happy birthday to the best boss lady in the business and our great mate Cr Jenelle Rimmer!

04.01.2022 On 7NEWS Sydney this evening calling on the Premier to pay security staff who are working in our quarantine hotels a full time salary. Securing these high risk facilities is not a part time job. We know from Victoria it only takes one positive case to break out from these hotels to ignite a second wave. ... Lives and livelihoods depend on this Premier.

03.01.2022 When our community needs a strong and stable Govt this is what we get! I can only imagine the anger that those who have lost jobs or businesses must be feeling today. It’s not embarrassing it’s appalling.

03.01.2022 I’m on 7NEWS Sydney this evening talking about the NSW Govt’s failure to adequately invest in more paramedics. It’s a situation that is putting lives at risk and is causing our frontline workers to be pushed to their limits.

03.01.2022 Our region misses out because we have a Premier who only cares about politics not people.

03.01.2022 Talking to WIN News Illawarra about restrictions that are easing tomorrow for Wollongong. I strongly support for the continuation of the mask mandate on public transport and in places of worship, and the recommendation to continue wearing masks in other areas where social distancing is not possible. This is the best way to keep the most vulnerable in our community safe and ensure we keep the economy going.

02.01.2022 On 7NEWS Sydney this evening calling on the Premier to either guarantee that our hotel quarantine arrangements are secure otherwise get the NSW Police and the Defence Force to take over. Our community needs to know this last line of defence is secure.

02.01.2022 The public have a right to know what has changed in the public health advice to finally force the Government to get serious about mask wearing. I bet nothing has changed and the advice of experts has been the same for months and that is masks save lives and should of been made compulsory in indoor areas a long time ago. Why on earth this simple, cost effective method of protection was not mandated months ago is mind boggling.

02.01.2022 The new restrictions. We shouldn’t be in the Greater Sydney and I’ll continue to advocate for our removal from this classification. Restrictions have been eased because our community is doing the right thing. Please keep it up, each of you are saving lives and livelihoods.... Thank you.

01.01.2022 The overwhelming majority of locals who have contacted me about the Thirroul Plaza re-development have said they have serious concerns about it. I have to agree, it is too large and the traffic congestion will only get worse.

01.01.2022 NEW TESTING LOCATION We have been able to get an additional testing clinic established and a big thanks to Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District and Woonona Shamrocks Rugby for enabling Laverty Pathology to set this up: Shamrock Rugby Club... Ocean Park off Campbell Street Opening Saturday 2nd January - 12:00pm - 4:00pm Daily from 3rd January - 8:00am - 4:00pm

01.01.2022 Working people across the Illawarra have lost one of their fiercest advocates with the very sad news on the passing of former State MP Colin Markham. Col, was a true fighter for the community he served as both the Member for Keira and then the Member for Wollongong during his time in the NSW Parliament. His commitment to Indigenous Australians was both strong and enduring and he was instrumental in the delivery of the NSW Parliament’s historic apology to Indigenous Australian...s in 1997 - the first apology of any Parliament in Australia - the process of reconciliation, land rights, and the Carr Government’s Statement of Commitment to Aboriginal People. On a personal level I will miss his advice, his feedback but above all his unwavering support. My thoughts are with Melissa and their three children and extended family at this very sad time.

01.01.2022 On 9 News Sydney this evening once again calling on the NSW Premier to ensure those guarding our quarantine hotels are not working anywhere else. It’s pretty simple, but with another security guard infected we need it to happen now!

01.01.2022 Feral deer across the Illawarra Escarpment continue to negatively impact on the local environment. They also cause damage to private property and are a road safety issue on some of the region's busiest roads. Today I met with the NSW Minister for Agriculture to advocate for additional funding for the Illawarra Wild Deer Management Program that last year culled over 600 of these pests.... This is an excellent program but to effectively manage the feral deer population we need additional investment. I will continue to advocate for this investment in the lead up to the NSW Budget in November. Thanks to the hundreds of local residents who have contacted me about this important issue.

01.01.2022 This inquiry is vital.
