25.01.2022 We understand the emotional toll the current situation is taking on people but please be kind. We had a visit from the Police today because they received multiple calls from people saying our staff were being favoured & taking product. Enough is enough! The fact is our staff had a box with bread & other products in it, taking it out to a car to deliver it to the local hospital. Our staff have also delivered many boxes to elderly people in the area. Please be kind..... we are trying to help local people in our community.

All the trees are native Australian species. They will provide hab...itat, stabilise soil, improve biodiversity and fight against weed invasions. The trees were planted by Carolyn Barrie and Meredith Landcare in Cargerie, VIC. Meredith is revegetating farm land back into indigenous native land. 18.01.2022 Good morning Beaufort, We understand people are feeling a lot of different emotions due to the circumstances that face us all at this time. There have been lovely notes of support left in the stores, drawings from children, emails and phone calls thanking our staff for the great work they are doing. However there have been a few people who think it’s an excuse to abuse (verbally or physically) our staff or other customers. This type of behavior will NOT be tolerated. Offende...rs will be referred to Victoria Police. The gaps in stock levels and the rules that have been put in place are NOT our staff’s fault. The customer who reminds you to keep a safe distance is asking you to do so because the government is asking us all to do that to keep us safe. There’s no need to blame anyone as we are all in this together and doing our best! Supermarkets right across Australia are all trying to restore their levels of stock, hence their is a HUGE demand on suppliers to produce stock and get it to the various warehouses around the country. To get the unusually large quantity of products from the warehouses to all the stores, you need more trucks. It is really is a TEAM effort from everyone in the supply chain to get the stock levels back to what customers are used to. We hope that paints the big picture for you as to what is happening and why you might not be able to access some of your favorite brands. We would like to thank our local and national suppliers along with the team at IGA Australia including the wonderful truck drivers at Dyers Distribution, who are working hard to replenish our stock. Thank you to our fabulous team at our stores, our meat facility team, our support office team and our management team who all continue to work tirelessly to ensure our customers are cared for. 07.01.2022 This is part of Nathan Ryan’s speech from the National IGA Conference celebrating Leo & Elaine’s 40 years in supermarkets. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing but with the support of family, local community and suppliers the Ryan family have continued to be a part of their local communities. While working for Arnott’s, Dad would visit 40-50 supermarkets a week and thought it was an industry that he and Mum could contribute to while providing for the family. In the late 70’s... they toyed with the idea of a milk bar but soon upgraded their ambitions to build Ballarat’s first Tuckerbag supermarket. When the rival independent in town, SSW, got wind of this, they requested that Dad be let go from his role at Arnott’s. For the year prior to getting the store up and off the ground, both Mum and Dad scrambled for casual and part time work to make ends meet. With a big loan from the bank, their supportive parents putting their house up to guarantee the loan and juggling us three kids - they were trying times. Eventually, in July 1979, exactly 40 years ago today, their first store opened. Many in the industry had significant doubts about the store’s location, but after seeing how successful it was, the CEO of Composite Buyers sent a telegram saying, ‘Never in my whole life have I been so happy to be so wrong’. Mum and Dad went on to open Pleasant Park in 1982 and Torquay in 1985. In 1989, they opened Midvale, just as the recession that had to happen hit. It was a hard slog for the next 4 years with the business seeing its darkest days. I clearly remember dad’s routine in those years. He would wait until the 4 stores closed at 6pm, then quickly calculate and juggle the payments he could make from the store’s takings for the day. He would then dash into the central mail centre to post the payments by 7pm. The times took their toll with Dad enduring a couple of heart attacks, but Mum and Dad’s persistence prevailed, and times began to improve towards the end the of the 90’s. In 2004, an opportunity to purchase their first pre-existing store in Beaufort arose. At this point, Ryans truly was a family business with Ben, Virginia and I all working in store. In 2005, our stores were operating under the IGA banner, and in 2007, Kyneton was opened. Dad is no stranger to independents he was Chairman of Tuckerbag and was on the board for over 15 years. He loves the camaraderie of the independents and was active in maintaining this through conference committees and his constant support of the banners. Mum and Dad have always put family at the heart of everything they do. Their hardworking and persistent nature is a testament to the success they have achieved in the Ballarat community.
