24.01.2022 Howdy folks, So I thought I'd share another update on the Lancia Flaminia Zagato sports. I know I usually put quite detailed photos up showing stages of my work but with this build my head has just been focusing on the task ahead. Fabrication of the 'A' pillars (hinge/windscreen surround) and fitting of the new windscreen has worked out really well. The upper and lower cross members of the windscreen frame had enough curves and tapers in them to keep me busy for a couple of ...days, which were made by stretching and turning lines in the English wheel. With the cappings welded in place and bringing the top frame work solid I can begin to look at the next steps of door frames/side glass and roof turret fitment. The best challenge I've faced rebuilding the Lancia is that it's a hand built car that was never built square and was probably made level using a bottle of red wine, these cumulative errors have had to be rectified the entire time. By doing this we can only expect a stunning outcome.
23.01.2022 Howdy folks! I’m happy to announce the date 28th & 29th of March for the 6th RAW-BDF beginner metalshaping workshop and first for 2020 hosted by Re-creation automotive with support by Picard and FXD. We have plans for advanced workshops in the months to follow this date but attendees for that (unless already skilled tradesmen) will... have to have participated in the beginner workshop beforehand. Email Suzie with your interest and to receive class package information. [email protected]
23.01.2022 While I'm undertaking the Lancia project I get to do other cool little jobs like making patch panels for this 250 SL Mercedes.
17.01.2022 Howdy Folks, It's been a long time in between Lancia Flaminia Zagato Sports post I know... As I'm physically and mentally into this job I'm not making much time to post at the moment. I'm not sure what I have or haven't shown on which social media outlets so here is a bombardment of progress pics. Thanks for following!... Now with a new windscreen surround fabricated and fitted the 'A' & 'B' pillars were then fabricated. Seat mount posts and floor rails also fabricated and welded in to place so we could set up steering and pedals being that it's returning to left hand drive. The Lancia is now headed to the paint shop to have all the inner sills primed and sealed so they can be closed up permanently and I move on to the front of the car structure.... The body work is coming...
16.01.2022 The beautiful little Lancia Flaminia Zagato Sports has also come along way. Here are some sequence pictures I took while doing the final fitting and welding if the mid and outer sill sections and 'B' pillars. Since these pictures the car has since been removed from the car bench and placed on a trolly to have lighter structural work done before piecing its body back together Never a bad day at Re-creation automotive
15.01.2022 A long awaited weekend of smashing and talking metal this weekend, something I enjoy very much and have looked forward too. What do you think if our new metalshaping workshop T shirts?
15.01.2022 There you have it.... A serious metal mover
13.01.2022 Howdy folks, After some time spent replacing all the outer edges on the Lancia Flaminia Zagato Sports roof turret it is now getting closer to having its edges turned over the roof structure in its final position. Turret aluminium is 1mm/19 gauge... Sorry for the limited pics but as I'm really enjoying this project my mind hasn't been on the technical sequence pictures that I would normally do.
13.01.2022 Howdy folks! Over the last week I've been pushing on fabricating the Lancia Flaminia Zagato Sports back window surround to get the factory Perspex window and mouldings to fit perfect. The part of this job (and I guess most restorative work) folks don't see is the time spent fitting the entire back section and turret together just to see where a tweak or rectification is needed to then pull it all apart to carry that task out. I now have a window and mould that sits in square ...held in by the interior trim with no stress... Sounds silly but this makes me happy. Roof turret repairs have begun
13.01.2022 I've been waiting for this....
13.01.2022 Howdy folks! While I haven't posted much of the 300sl on the work pages I felt the world seems to be going a little off axis at the moment so I thought a couple of metal bending pictures will give you all something to look at for a minute. It grew from 'just' a bonnet repair quite quickly
11.01.2022 One of the many very good reason for joining Re-Creation Automotive.... The paint shop team is amazing at what they do.
09.01.2022 It was great to be swinging hammer's with another great group of folks this weekend. A big thank you to Peter of Re-creation automotive for hosting the workshop and Suzie, Sue and Terry for feeding the troop with more than enough food over the weekend.
05.01.2022 This time last weekend.. Co-worker Chris and I had the pleasure of working with some clever enthusiasts and industry people in the RAW-BDF @ Re-Creation Automotive metalshaping workshop. The workshops are something I really enjoy doing as where anyone who loves talking/sharing their passion could understand. We are all forever learning no matter our capability or experience already gained. ... 2020 is set for the addition of an advanced workshops with the support of host Re-creation automotive Picard Hammers Australia and FXD.
05.01.2022 Howdy folks! With my head firmly planted in to this 300SL Mercedes I've accumulated a good run of pictures leading to a pause on the left hand side until I have the right hand side upto the same stage. Though this project has being fairly physical I'm really enjoying myself and look forward to each morning back on the job.. this is greatly due to the team and environment I'm working with at Re-Creation Automotive.... If you aren't following them already then get over there to see what the rest of the team are getting upto. Pictures are some what self explanatory.. lots of smaller details as the job came together. Any questions post in th pictures. Thanks for following as always
04.01.2022 Hey folks, Hopefully everyone is healthy and doing well in these current times. I thought I'd share some pictures with you all of the finished side of the Mercedes 300SL being built at Re-Creation Automotive until lockdown resides and we can continue on.... I haven't posted much on my work pages lately and those who were friends on my personal page might have noticed that they are not any longer. This isn't out of disrespect, this is me finding balance in life between work and family. The reason behind the absence of work post's is that now I'm working with a company that has an incredible metal and paint shop building these beautiful cars I find it very difficult to stand on a soap box as a seperate identity. I'm very lucky and proud to be apart of a team of this calibre and feel my ego shouldn't be heard any louder than the others. During difficult situation here in Victoria please note that Re-creation Automotive is following all government regulations relating to the pandemic and I/we look forward to sharing pictures of work being carried out at Re-creation automotive by us all along with some tutorial videos maybe? and updates on the RAW BDF metalshaping workshops when life returns to some form of normality. Thanks for the continued support and following, Ryan
03.01.2022 No words needed...
03.01.2022 Howdy folks, Due to a very busy workshop at Re-Creation Automotive posts have been on hold so I thought I'd kick off some updates beginning with this Maserati A6G Allemano the coach building department has had the pleasure of bringing back to life. The outer sill, fender sections and door frame repairs as well as door skins is where I'll come into play my role in this project. ... One side nearly done with some finishing of the repairs around the door opening before I. I've onto the other side to do it all over again. I didn't get any pictures of the fabrication of this side section or welding so I'll try on the following side The door skin was actually a little trickier than I first expected... It has very little crown as the cars side profile is of minimal sweep while the waist belt detail is full of multiple sweeps.. good fun... Now it's done
03.01.2022 Howdy folks, A time has come for me to share with you my decision to leave my place of work at Re-creation automotive and retire from the industry. This wasn't or hasn't been an easy choice for me to accept knowing it effects people within the environment I work but it is the choice I've made purely with myself and my family's best interest put first.... I could write a long winded explanation as to why I no longer want to put all my physical and mental energy into this career or ego known as a "coach builder" or "metal shaper" any longer but the rumours will be much more entertaining for you. But I will say I am great full to have ended my time at Re-Creation with their team, I feel like it was definitely a peak of my career. All RAW BDF social media pages will be deleted at the end of the week. Thank you very much for your interactions and inspirations you have shared with me over the years.
