24.01.2022 Getting ready for Merrylands

24.01.2022 Merrylands...off to a flying dtart

24.01.2022 Quite a few of our club members have been spotted at open water swims over the last couple of weeks. On Australia Day Helen Rubin and Anne Hemmings were seen at the Sydney Harbour Splash. Anne came 2nd in her age group for the 5km event. Last Sunday at the Cole Classic Helen completed a gruelling 5km swim. She later found Courtney Fox and Penny Saltis who participated in the 2km event. Jenny Whiteley also swam the 2km event and here she is being presented with a Cole Classic plate for winning her age group. Also heard that Julia Osorio did the BIG SWIM at Palm Beach on Australia and that she had to tackle an extremely big surf to get out for the swim. To any other club member who has participated in an open water swim, congratulations. Let us know about it.

23.01.2022 All happy after individual events! Now bring on the relays,

20.01.2022 Ah... the old days

20.01.2022 THEN: c.1970 - Ryde Swimming Centre was opened early 1960's. From background to foreground there was the toddler's pool, children's pool, olympic pool, diving ...pool and training pool. As a kid, fond memories of bombs off the diving tower, mucking around with mates, keeping out of sight of Pool Inspectors, no shade, bindies in the grass, bees from the canteen, school carnivals, night time openings on hot evenings, and even ice skating during one or two Winter seasons (photo Tony Saunders FB Group "Putney Memories & History") NOW: 2020 - When Sydney won the 2000 Olympics the whole swimming centre was demolished for the Olympic Water Polo venue. It is now called the Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre. Apparently is still popular with NOW residents, but not those of the THEN vintage (my photo)

There are weekly prizes for swimmers. They will be eligible for each week of the challenge that they swim. You nominate the distance you would like to swim over the challenge. Please follow the link below and join Swimming 4a Cure. I am looking for more swimmers to register. If you are not able to join you may purchase a swim cap or make a donation.
