25.01.2022 Can you help Amanda Rowe identify these photos? Amanda says: "Im sharing these photos in the hope of identifying some of the people. They are from the collection of my grandfather, Lindsay Wilson, and they are taken in Kandos. Many of the photos appear to be taken in front of the Railway Hotel, which is where my grandfather was living while he worked at the cement works in Charbon. My guess is that they were taken either in the late 1920s or the early 1930s and the men could be people from the town and/or colleagues, who may or may not have been from Kandos. Its a long shot, but just wondering if any of the men can still be identified."

21.01.2022 Cudgegong Village, 1926

20.01.2022 Around Lue, NSW. Lue is a small village, near Mudgee, that came into being because of the railway coming through the area. Prior to the railway arriving in 1884..., the village was located three miles east and named ‘Dungeree’ (or sometimes spelt ‘Dungaree’). The location chosen for the railway station was named Lue (pronounced Loowee) and a village plan laid out there. Over the following 30 years, virtually all the businesses, churches, school and population moved closer to the railway station. These days, the small village looks rather deserted, but it makes an interesting stop to have a look around. See more

19.01.2022 Capertee Railway Station, NSW. Capertee railway station opened in May 1882, approximately two years after extension of a new line had commenced between Walleraw...ang and Capertee Camp. After Capertee, the line extended to Rylstone (1884), Mudgee (1884), Gulgong (1909), Dunedoo (1910), Merrygoen (1917), Binnaway (1917) and finally reaching Gwabegar in 1923.The yard at Capertee originally consisted of three sidings, a goods shed, loading bank, stockyards (for cattle and sheep) and a weighbridge. The station closed in the late 20th century and was later leased to the local community. The station building features a central building flanked by two detached pavilions. There is a symmetrical internal arrangement including a central waiting room. The platform is unusually long at 230ft. See more

18.01.2022 MORE THAN DATES & PLACES" When the Lithgow & District Family History Society hosts a family history morning at the Lithgow Library & Learning Centre on Satur...day 11th August to promote National Family History Month, one of the guest speakers, Leonie Knapman, will share her memories of life as a coal miners daughter in Glen Davis. Family history comes to life as we uncover information about the lives of people and their relationship to other members of their community. The Society is keen to share what can be learnt during this process. Hear Keith Painter speak about some of the interesting results of his research into James Padley and his family in his talk titled Research byways I have wandered down. Michael Stevenson is currently researching Freemasonry and its contribution to the community of Lithgow in preparation for his exhibition at Eskbank house and has titled his talk Putting the exhibition together. The morning will commence at 9am and morning tea will be provided. See more
