25.01.2022 Following on from our update this morning we can now confirm that all branches have cancelled their remaining events for the 2019-2020 season. Stay safe folks! All being well we'll be back for our 2020-2021 season and putting smiles on dials again.
23.01.2022 Back to basics Every level, every ability, every body. Chris Lemar
21.01.2022 Thank you to our mates at Awesome Foundation Fleurieu for their thought and generosity We at DSA South Aus do the bulk of our planning in the off-season, so it’s great timing to be able to put this grant to the best use possible! Our boards, wetsuits and mobility equipment are all funded by donations so this lets us continue to run our Have A Surf Days with all the tools needed. Thank you! Preeces Surf Shop
18.01.2022 Confirming to everyone that our event on 22nd March has now been cancelled. Its disappointing to have to do this as we were all looking forward to it but we are following our duty of care responsibilities to all participants, cares and volunteers
17.01.2022 Not long now people. All new volunteers welcome. @Disabled Surfing Association SA Moana Surf Life Saving Club
16.01.2022 Due to COVID-19 restrictions our event format has been changed, so we ask that you familiarise yourselves with the new arrangements prior to attending: On 29 November we will not be using the facilities of the Moana Surf Life Saving Club due to renovations and COVID-19 restrictions. Pre-Registration we need to plan based on expected numbers. If you have not already done it, please email our Secretary ASAP ([email protected]) indicating who will be coming o...n which day(s). All participants and volunteers are require a temperature check on arrival. If any person is feeling unwell or showing cold or flu like symptoms on the day then please do not attend. Social distancing will be in place at all times except when participants are in the surf with the team leaders. 1.5m distance between family / carer groups and participants with each other). Please try to ensure there is a maximum of one carer per participant when waiting near the surf, waiting for a turn. It is recommended that carers bring a chair for their participant to use in between water sessions. By working together we ensure that everyone stays safe whilst putting those smiles on dials as usual #accessible #inclusive #inclusion #surf #surfing #disability #ability #covid #covid19 #coronavirus #restrictions #socialdistancing #sahealth #participation #volunteer #volunteering #southaustralia #adelaide #weekend #disabledsurfersassociation
15.01.2022 Great news, the Awesome Foundation (Fleurieu Chapter) this week donated $1000 to enable us to by a new SUP. Their organisation is doing wonderful things to support the local community and we sincerely thank them for their support. Steve Little from the foundation is pictured presenting the board to myself accompanied by Brenton Preece from Preece's Southport Surf Shop who supplied it. The new board is a 8ft 9' Big Softie weighing only 13kg and will suit our smaller riders perfectly. Looking forward to christening it in November at our first Summer event.
12.01.2022 THE ADAPTIVE FINAL WAS ONE OF THE BEST HEATS OF THE DAY! I think they were having fun out there! Well done to them and their team of volunteers!
12.01.2022 Due to the latest COVID-19 outbreak, all community activities and activities with an approved COVID Management Plan have been cancelled for at least the next 2 weeks. Regretfully, this means we cannot go ahead with our event planned for 29 November. Although we didn't get to enjoy the day together, we'd like to thank you for staying in touch and helping us to organise this event. We are now focused on organising the 21 February and 21 March 'Have A Surf Days’ and will communi...cate details to you all as soon as possible. Stay safe all, Your DSA South Aus Committee

08.01.2022 To all dsa surfers, carers, family members and dedicated volunteers.............. It is unfortunate that we have had no other option but to cancel our next event scheduled for Sunday 29th November. We have spent many hours in planning this event by submitting a Covid Safe plan plus a obtaining a council permit. Our committee has made every effort to ensure we could hold a safe event in the current Covid climate but as you would all be aware the circumstances in SA changed dr...amatically last weekend . This latest Covid outbreak increases the risk to those who are vulnerable when attending public events and unnecessary travel is not recommended. The SA Government has tightened restrictions as well. The SA Disabled Surfers Association will always put safety before anything else so whilst we are all disappointed this will always be our priority. Our next event is scheduled for February 21st next year and we will keep you all updated as we get closer. We hope you all can stay safe and well in coming weeks and that this latest Covid development can be effectively contained. Russell Markham - President, Disabled Surfers Association SA See more
07.01.2022 COVID-19 has changed the world around us and certain measures have been taken in order to ensure we can run this season’s events smoothly and safely. This season DSA South Australia requires both volunteers and participants to indicate their interest by pre-registering for the events they are intending to attend. These numbers are not a firm cut-off at this point, but will help the committee to organise sufficient space and equipment for the required physical distancing mea...sures. Event 1: Sunday 29 November 2020 Event 2: Sunday 21 February 2021* Event 3: Sunday 21 March 2021* (Starting times to be advised) * Dates TBC with Moana SLSC To pre-register, please send an email to our secretary Craig at [email protected] and copy and paste the following information to fill out: Name: Role: (Participant OR Volunteer) Number of carers/family accompanying: Events attending: We would love to see you all there but we encourage you to use your own discretion in deciding whether to attend or not in the current COVID-19 affected climate. More information about the changes to our event process will be provided closer to the first event date, but rest assured that the committee is working hard to develop our COVID-Safe Plan to get us going for another ripper Have A Surf Day season In the meantime, it is essential to pre-register all intending participants, volunteers, parents and carers for this season, so get to it! #disabilityadelaide #covidsafe #disability #ability #inclusive #surfing

04.01.2022 FROM THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT DSA - AUST To all our participants, carers and especially volunteers around Australia and New Zealand. Everyone is going through restrictions in everyday life due to the Corona Virus and the D.S.A.... is no exception. As our two nations combat the dilemma, we too have had to cancel many events, therefore restricting our ability to put smiles on dials. Our nations will eventually combat this hideous issue and we will come back even stronger by changing the lives of so many people. We may be closing down events for the foreseeable future until authorities tell us it is safe to carryout our impeccable programs. Be assured that we are not going anywhere, only growing stronger, yet aware of the welfare of our supporters, being you and your friends. Our attempt to establish our nineteenth branch in Tasmania has been postponed until later this year, yet again we will put in the efforts to bring this amazing organisation to all Tasmanian’s with a disability wishing to have a go at surfing. Please take care and look after yourselves, as we look forward to a new and even more exciting 2020-2021 season. Until then Yours sincerely Gary Blaschke Gary Blaschke OAM D.S.A.A. 04.01.2022 It's coming. Save this date people. Its the highlight of the surfing calendar
02.01.2022 Always wanted to catch a wave or know someone who does? We’ve got you: Anybody, any (dis)ability Whoever you are, we’ll find a way to get you surfing, whatever that means for you! Some participants stand up and ride to shore, some prefer to kneel or lie on their tummies and cruise Some sit on their bums and lay back, supported by one of our trained volunteers and sometimes a beanbag too for extra comfort. There has been no challenge too great for our team at Disabled... Surfers Assoc SA so far, so don’t be afraid to tell us what you need to help you have a great day in the waves. See our previous post on pre-registration for the upcoming season and like/follow for updates #ability #disability #inclusive #inclusion #accessible #surf #active #volunteer
02.01.2022 After suffering a serious motorcycle accident three decades ago, lifelong surfer Gary Blaschke found it difficult to return to the waves. He founded the Disable...d Surfers Association (DSA) a voluntary organisation helping people with mental and physical disabilities get back out in the water, or discover it for the first time. With branches across Australia and New Zealand, DSA has helped countless people of all ages find friendship and freedom in the surf. We're all about the average person putting into their community and helping their community out, he says. This is the best way I know to do that. 02.01.2022 Supportive. Inclusive. Understanding. Let us show you how anybody with any (dis)ability can surf too! See our earlier post and pre-register for our next event!
