25.01.2022 Over the years, most sailors buying a new Sabre have been content to wait for their boat to be built. This allows their boat to be customised, including their preferred hull colour scheme. However some customers prefer to buy a recent second hand boat since they can get it quickly, fully rigged, generally at a price not much less than a new boat. The Sabre website ‘For Sale’ tab suggests that there is a shortage of good, recently built Sabres available for sale. This sugges...ts that owners are holding on to their boats longer before buying a new one, being very happy with the quality and long life of their boats. But this means that prospective buyers of ‘For Sale’ boats have a limited range from which to choose. Those boats that have changed hands have spent little or no time advertised on the website. In collaboration with the Sabre Association of Victoria, Martyn and Sue Sly of Sly Boat Building and Repair Centre now provide semi-finished hulls ex stock which can be backed up with rigged stock masts, booms, foils, trolleys etc. Hulls in neutral colours can be customised in a matter of days and can include hull colour stripes. We believe that this progressive move will add to the availability of Sabres and provide more options for customers. https://www.sabre.org.au/2020/08/new-sabres-quick-delivery/

Let's continue to show the other classes where the strength is! McCrae is a magnificent venue with a big lawn, wide white sandy beach and crystal clear water. Can we break the 80 boat mark like we did in 2016 at Blairgowrie? Let's work on it! Enter now: https://www.sabre.org.au//2021-victorian-sabre-championsh/

03.01.2022 Feedback behind the SSAA decision Based on feedback we received from the trials and survey of sailors, there were several different bodies of opinion and we’ll try to summarise them. 1. New sail apparent modernisation and speed. - Let’s show that we have ‘modernised’ and are not stuck in the past. ... - A new sail can slightly increase the Sabre’s speed and pointing ability, particularly in light to moderate conditions. - We feel that the slight sail area increase will not significantly affect our current Sabre cohort. - The change should help to bring in some new sailors. 2. Current sail - status quo. - We have a very popular class that continues to grow. It has attracted a broad group of sailors and we don’t want to shake up a successful formula. Why do we need to have the disruption and cost of change? - The Sabre is often the only class that can successfully race in 20 plus knots and large seas, conditions that often occur in the southern states of Australia. Let’s not risk losing this capability. - We have received feedback that some sailors believe that the increased area at the top of the sail will make the boat less stable on a square run in strong breezes. If so, this may put some current sailors off wanting to sail Sabres. - Adoption of the trial sail may mean that a stiffer mast may be needed and it might also affect other parts of the boat. - It’s likely that the trial sail will cause the fleet to spread out more and this goes against our desire to have close competition throughout the fleet. Following extensive discussion, SSAA decided that for the foreseeable future, the sail design will not change.
