16.01.2022 Today, 19 students represented St Monica’s College in the 2020 SACCSS Chess Tournament. This year, the event was held as an online tournament with participants ...playing seven rounds of matches using the Tornelo Online Chess program. With many experienced senior students unavailable, this was a great opportunity for our younger chess players to shine. In a day of great competition, St Monica’s finished in second place, just two points behind Caroline Chisholm in what was a tight contest from the outset. All matches were played in a tremendous spirit and students were thrilled to have the opportunity to again represent their school in Chess, after a year with many tournaments understandably cancelled. Congratulations and thank you to all students who made themselves available for the tournament. A special mention goes to Cruze De Giorgio of Year 7, who finished in second place overall with six wins, a fantastic effort considering he was playing against much older players all day. Thanks to Mr Matt Sheens and members of the Sport Team for their assistance with organisation and supervision, and to Mrs Claire Polidano for her supervision of students and ongoing support.
