11.01.2022 Today sees aerial firefighting aircraft of the CFS activated for the first time this summer. For owners of drones - even volunteer members involved in responding to an incident - under CASA laws it is illegal for you to fly your drone over an emergency incident (including bushfires). If an unauthorised drone is flow over a fireground, all air support is immediately grounded. If you fly, we can’t so please leave your drone at home.

10.01.2022 Unauthorised CFS clothing being sold: Hi all, an overseas company is currently marketing clothing with the insignia of several SA emergency services, including the CFS, without the approval of the CFS to use our logos. Under the Fire and Emergency Services Act of 2005, the logos of the CFS are protected - and written consent must be received prior to any usage.... The company has not done this, and the clothing items are not supported or endorsed by the CFS or the other agencies they have used logos and insignias from. The CFS has written to the company and advised them of this breach. Unfortunately this happens on a semi-regular basis, so please do not purchase any clothing carrying the CFS logo unless the seller can provide documented proof (a signed letter from the Chief Officer allowing them to use the logo).
09.01.2022 Fire Danger Season dates announced for 12 of 15 SA districts 29/10/2020 The start and finish dates for the majority of the South Australian Fire Danger Districts have been announced today by the SA Country Fire Service.... The Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Metropolitan and Kangaroo Island dates are yet to be confirmed and will be announced soon. Seasons will commence for the Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Flinders, North East Pastoral, North West Pastoral and West Coast this Sunday. CFS Chief Officer Mark Jones said that with recent rainfall many districts will be commencing restrictions on their traditional starting dates. "A milder start to the season than in previous years means we will see the commencement of the Fire Danger Season for many areas at a time that residents were traditionally more used to. "With no need for the starts to be brought in early, as in previous years, there should be no surprises for residents in these districts who have been preparing their properties," Mr Jones said. The Fire Danger Season commencement means restrictions in districts become legally enforceable. "Now is the perfect time to prepare for the oncoming season and update your Bushfire Survival Plan," Mr Jones said. A list of 'What can I do/What can't I do?' during the Fire Danger Season, and information on how to create a Bushfire Survival Plan, is available at cfs.sa.gov.au The confirmed seasons dates are as follows: Adelaide Metropolitan: To be announced Eastern Eyre Peninsula: 01 November 2020 until 15 April 2021 Flinders: 01 November 2020 until 15 April 2021 Kangaroo Island: To be announced Lower Eyre Peninsula: 15 November 2020 until 15 April 2021 Lower South East: 01 December until 30 April 2021 Mid North: 15 November 2020 until 30 April 2021 Mount Lofty Ranges: To be announced Murraylands: 15 November 2020 until 15 April 2021 North East Pastoral: 01 November 2020 until 31 March 2021 North West Pastoral: 01 November 2020 until 31 March 2021 Riverland: 15 November 2020 until 15 April 2021 Upper South East: 15 November 2020 until 15 April 2021 West Coast: 01 November 2020 until 15 April 2021 Yorke Peninsula: 15 November 2020 until 30 April 2021.

06.01.2022 Fireworks safety for New Year South Australia’s fire services are warning the community of the fire risks posed by fireworks, sparklers and barbeques as we ring in the new year. A majority of public fireworks events in South Australia have been cancelled this year but the Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and SA Country Fire Service (CFS) remind the public that there is no excuse to risk using fireworks at home. ... MFS Community Engagement Officer, Angelo Mastripolito, said the risk of injury or property damage needs to be considered when planning New Year’s Eve parties or gatherings. People using fireworks put themselves, their loved ones and the broader community at risk of serious injury, disfigurement or even death. If caught, offenders also face significant penalties or civil damages. Sparklers can be used only if there are no Total Fire Bans declared but parents must always supervise children using them, MFS Community Engagement Officer Mastripolito said. Warm, dry conditions are predicted across much of the state, bringing potential bushfire danger. South Australians are reminded that ‘sky lanterns’ a paper lantern that is set alight to make it float in the air are banned from use in the state. Sky lanterns pose a high fire risk if it were to land on dry grass or become trapped under the eaves of a building. CFS State Duty Commander, Sam Quigley said the use of illegal fireworks heightens the risk of bushfires starting during Fire Danger Season, but that there are also other steps we can take ensure everyone has a safe New Year’s Eve. We do not want New Year celebrations turning to tragedy because of one irresponsible act. Local parks or backyard parties are popular this time of year. While you can use smokers and wood fire ovens on days where there are no Total Fire Bans in place, please make sure you have a fire extinguisher or plenty of water on hand to stop any fires from spreading, CFS State Duty Commander Quigley said. The MFS and CFS also remind the community to check for leaks or breaks in gas lines and valves before firing up the barbeque over the festive period. When in doubt, replace hoses and/or the gas cylinder.
05.01.2022 Congratulations to Port MacDonnell resident Grant Fensom who has been named the 2020 Citizen of the Year by the Lions Club of the City of Adelaide and South Au...stralia Police. Mr Fensom was nominated following his valuable contribution in the arrest of an armed holdup offender in Port MacDonnell in 2019. The cool, clear and concise thinking and actions of Mr Fensom reflected his training and professionalism as a SA Country Fire Service Captain and provided great service to the community at large and South Australian Police. This award is a fitting acknowledgement for his courage and consideration on this occasion, but his standing and further contribution in the community further enhances his eligibility. The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide and South Australia Police Citizen’s Award was first awarded in 1979, then 1983 and, after many years absence, has continued annually since 2003.
