23.01.2022 Well it isn't April anymore, but here are the belated "purple clothing for Parkinson's awareness April" photos from the Mt Barker and Clarence Park Community Centre dance classes. Thanks to all the dancers (and Mt Barker teacher, Tanya Voges) for a stunning effort.

22.01.2022 It is with a significant measure of sadness that I announce that Contemporary Dance...For Seniors (Mt Barker) will not be continuing. Thank you to all involved in this class, it has been a fun two and a bit years. All is not lost, though! It is looking very likely that the class will have a new life at Rockit Performing Arts (also in Mt Barker) from next term, under the guidance of Dance For PD trained teacher, Noni Vassos, and her teachers.

22.01.2022 THE WAIT IS NEARLY OVER! Our 2021 dance classes at Clarence Park and Mt Barker commence next week. The Clarence Park class with be off to a different start with the addition of live piano music provided by Cheryl van Wageningen. Here is a bit about Cheryl... Cheryl van Wageningen graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Music in 2018. As a pianist, teacher and composer of Peramangk/ Ngarrindjeri heritage, she is especially passionate about Music for Ther...apy and compositions that reflect her Indigenous background. In 2018, a short documentary was aired on NITV, and recently on Channel 44, titled 'Dot Music' which portrayed Cheryl’s journey through life and musical education. She currently teaches students aged from 7 years old to 71 years young, and also plays at local residential care centres, where she promotes music and well-being with sing-a-longs. See more

21.01.2022 And so the live piano music for dance class experiment comes to an end. All parties thoroughly enjoyed the experience! I even taught some ballet inspired choreography (managed my flashbacks to ballet exams which also had live piano!). Thank you to Cheryl and her husband Rob, who provided drums for some of the dance exercises (we scored two-for-one!). If there are any other proficient musicians out there, who are interested in playing for the dance class, please let me know. It is a paid role. Although, Cheryl and Rob very kindly opted to give their time and energy for free! :)

21.01.2022 Not a chair-based class, but still worth sharing!

20.01.2022 When we talk about improving balance we tend to think of older adults, but that needs rethinking. According to this article balance is getting worse in young and middle aged adults too! All is not lost though, we just have to challenge our balance regularly whatever our age. Dance class anyone?

19.01.2022 An opportunity to see some top notch contemporary dance, in the flesh!! Something of a treat in current times. Tickets went on sale today and are limited. Get in quick!

18.01.2022 In times of adversity creativity is a great coping mechanism. So very grateful that we were able to get back to dancing together in the same space after a fairly short suspension. I feel for those who can't yet, or can't again!

17.01.2022 As my father would say when things were not going to plan "POO, BUM AND WEE!!" Due to the current uptick in COVID-19 cases here in SA, the Clarence Park Community Centre and Mt Barker chair-dance classes are suspended for the next two weeks, as per the current SA government restrictions imposed on indoor fitness activities, and the recommendation that vulnerable people stay home where possible. Practice makes perfect, huh!

16.01.2022 Hurrah! Dance classes at Mt Barker and Clarence Park Community Centre are resuming this week. Only a couple of weeks of classes left for this year, let us make the most of it! :)

12.01.2022 Term 2 dance classes at Clarence Park Community Centre and Mt Barker start this week and it is still April, so dig out something purple to wear in class! :)

10.01.2022 Put some Spring in your step! Our Term 4, (mostly) chair-based dance classes start next week - Tuesday for Mt Barker and Friday for Clarence Park. Newcomers always welcome. :)

10.01.2022 This isn't chair-dance or older adult dance...middle-aged adult dance? But I am all for encouraging everyone and anyone to have a go at dancing. And these dancers have done a superb job of learning my sister's choreography over just 10 weeks! :)

10.01.2022 Yes! This is a multi-cultural country, not everyone has English as their first language. We need more of this! Please share this with any Mandarin speakers who would like to try and online chair-dance class.

07.01.2022 NEW OVER 65s DANCE CLASS STARTING NEXT MONDAY AT FULLARTON PARK COMMUNITY CENTRE! This is not a chair-based dance class, but I am all for promoting dance for everyone and anyone. If you are interested, see the link below for details. https://www.unley.sa.gov.au/Events-dir/Dancing-for-over-65s... PS. The photo is misleading - this IS NOT a partner dance class, it is a contemporary/jazz dance class.

01.01.2022 Welcome to the Facebook page for South Australia's chair-based dance classes. Please be our "friend".
