Lewis Stratford led the way for Brighton with 9 points in an even scoring performance while big man Jamie Smith was a hard man to contain dropping 16 points for Seeds. 15.01.2022 FREE HOOPS FRIDAY CLUB FEATURE: CORNER UNITING BASKETBALL CLUB Location: Warradale... Year of commencement: 2007/2013 Colours: Royal Blue & Yellow History: The Corner Uniting Church Basketball Club began as Ascot Community Uniting Basketball Club more than 30 years ago. It was run by Beth Humphries as an outreach to young people in the local community. There were numerous teams covering all age groups over the years. The U8/10 competition had teams playing at the Ascot Park church site on 5th Avenue on Saturday afternoons. In 2007 with still a number of viable teams, a number of local churches were contacted to see if they were prepared to support the club with Ascot directing its focus elsewhere. The Oaklands & Wesley Warradale Uniting Church gave their support to them, so in 2007 they changed their name & uniform. The church eventually changed its name and in 2013 they became known as The Corner. 13.01.2022 SACBOA 193 DALE ORMOND SACBA has been informed from his family that 69 year old Dale John Ormond [SACBOA number 193] passed last Tuesday 3 November. Some of the highlights of Dale’s life in basketball:... - He first played basketball, in the SA Church competition for Brooklyn Park Uniting in 1967; - Commencing as a referee in 1969, Dale was a well-respected senior official in the Association over many years [our records show that he held a Level 2 grading equivalent in 1980 he probably ceased active refereeing in the early 2000s]; - He was a member of the Rostering committee in 1973 to 1979, 1984 and 1985; - He was Rostering Secretary in 1976, 1977 and 1978; - Dale received the SACBOA Service Award in 1980; - He served on the SACBOA Executive Committee from 1984 to 1987; - Dale was awarded Life Membership of SACBOA in 1997. Many observed that Dale was a truly kind, generous, and gentle man . . . he will be sorely missed. Year of commencement: 2015 Colours: Black/Orange History: The Hub-Titans club originally started in 2009 when a group of friends from a social basketball team wanted to get in a little extra practice. They started catching up each Sunday at a local gym and playing casually for an hour each week. Since then over time the group has grown into a club. The club now known as the Hub-Titans has over 50 adult members and 20 juniors. In 2015 the club entered its first side into the SACBA competition in partnership with Our Saviour Lutheran Church Aberfoyle Park (Therefore becoming OSL Hub-Titans). All teams compete in the SACBA and other BASA run competitions.
