19.01.2022 It is the end of an era at the NSW Rural Fire Service today. After more than 30 years in the Service, and after more than 12 years as Commissioner, Shane Fitzsi...mmons leaves the organisation today. He's taking up a new role within NSW Government as the Commissioner of Resilience NSW and as Deputy Secretary of Emergency Management. Shane has seen us, and the community, through some of the toughest of conditions and experiences during this time. We say farewell and 'thank you'.

18.01.2022 A Huge Thank You to the residents of Moss Ridge for treating our Brigade and families to a Special Afternoon last Sunday. A massive effort on your part to thank us for our efforts during the Bush Fires. We were welcomed, kept cool under 2large marques, cold drinks, a massive Jumping Castle to keep our kids entertained, a Barbecue with everything we could possibly wish for, delicious desserts. ... We all left feeling totally indulged by your generosity. See more

18.01.2022 OLD NORTHERN ROAD (ONR) HR - DAY 2 NSWRFS is out with NPWS and NSW Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, identifying cultural sites of Aboriginal and I...ndigenous significance. We joined with Uncle Col Lyons of St Albans RFB (Hawkesbury) and Selina Timothy and Kev Telford from NSW MLALC to perform a smoking ceremony to cleanse and ward off bad spirits. Staff and volunteers from NSWRFS were invited to participate in the ceremony before commencing hazard reduction burns in the area. This was a great example of an integrated fire management experience Please be aware that: Firefighting crews and vehicles will be operating in and around the area, including on roads. Trees may continue to fall after the burn and that the area may be unsafe. ALL walking tracks in the area will remain closed until further notice to allow for crews to ensure the safety of the area for residents and community. Please remember to only call 000 if you see a fire without any firefighting crews about. Did you know that you can find out information about planned hazard reduction burns at the NSW Rural Fire Service website? Visit https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-informati/hazard-reductions for more information.

15.01.2022 An update on Sackvilke North Rural Fire Brigsde. COVID 19 posts. I am sure everyone is saturated with the news and it is best to get your updates and any NSW State changes on Our TRIVIA Night booked advertised for Saturday 30th May is cancelled and the decision for CHRISTMAS in JULY will depend on Government and RFS decisions nearer to the date. ... Our Captain is still getting requests for PILE BURN PERMITS . This is not an option as no permits can be issued at this time. PLEASE BE PATIENT and wait till 1st April when you do NOT need a Permit to light your Pile until our next Fire Season starts. These the are things you will need to do routinely before you light. 1. Make sure the area around your pile is cleared so that your pile is contained, not under or near power lines, trees or other structures. 2. The material to be burnt is vegetation and does not contain household items such as plastics, cardboard, treated timber. 3. That each pile does not exceed 1.5 metres in height and the width and length is No more than 2 metres. 4. Sufficient water supply and a hose to reach around your pile if needed. 5. Phone The Hills Fire Control Centre on 96542268 at least 24 hours before you intend to burn and also let your neighbours also know. This will avoid any unnecessary report of a fire, a call out for your brigade, and embarrassment. 6. Check the weather conditions and fire danger for the time you intend to burn. Don’t light if it is windy or strong winds are predicted when you intend to burn. 7. When you light your pile you must be there to make sure it is contained and that there it is completely extinguished when complete. Stay safe everyone, use resources if you need help. It is a challenging time for our world and keep in mind This Too Shall Pass The link for Corona Virus information is below.

13.01.2022 Eggs are hatching and the babies are emerging! All these snakes pictured are eastern brown snakes. Most times you will have a lot of people guess the species an...d it can be quite concerning. As you can see the small eastern browns pictured are both light in colour and have dark bands, some say it's a tiger snake but the most concerning ones is when people guess on Facebook and tell people that it's a juvinile pygmy banded python! This can be very dangerous and can cause death if bitten. Juveniles around Sydney normally are heavily banded and loose most of the banding as they get older. If you need a snake identified please dont ask the community notice boards on Facebook, just contact me on 0455570000 24/7 service There is 4 pictures in total and all are eastern browns at varying stages Please share around to get this little bit of information out there! Thank you

12.01.2022 Total Fire Ban Tomorrow Sunday

09.01.2022 Ever wondered how a new helicopter arrives. Its not like you can just pop into a dealership. Here is a video of the new Bell 412 helicopter arriving. Thanks to the RAAF for the delivery. This helicopter is a real asset just in time for the fire season.

09.01.2022 Sad to see Shane Fitzsimmons leave us as Commissioner yesterday. A bonus that he will be filling another challenging Role.

06.01.2022 IMPORTANT If you notice any unattended fire, please FIRSTLY report it to 000 They will direct it to the fastest response.

06.01.2022 PILE BURN PERMITS Do you know that from 1st April you do NOT need a Permit to light your Pile until our next Fire Season starts. Our Captain has been inundated with requests for Permits for Pile Burns in the last week. It is understandable that people want to tidy up after the storms we have had.... However if your Pile burn is not urgent, meaning it is not an immediate risk to people, buildings etc. can it wait until after 31st. March. This will alleviate trying to organise a time and unnecessary time paper work for you and for John. There are still some things you will need to do routinely before you light. These are: 1. Make sure the area around your pile is cleared so that your pile is contained and not under power lines, trees or other structures. 2. The material to be burnt is vegetation and doesn’t contain household items such as plastics, cardboard, treated timber. 3. Your pile is no higher than 1.5 metres Hugh and no wider or long than 2 metres. 4. Ensure you have a sufficient water supply to reach around your pile if needed. 5. Phone The Hills Fire Control Centre on 96542268 at least 24 hours before you intend to burn. Let your neighbours also know. This will avoid any unnecessary report of a fire. 6. Before you light check the weather and fire danger for the time you intend to burn. Don’t light if it is windy it winds are predicted when you intend to burn. 7. When you light your pile you must be there to make sure it is contained and that there it is completely extinguished when complete.

03.01.2022 Please be aware that our Fire Season is from 1st October 2020 til 31st March 2021. It is important to get your pile burns done before 1st October.
