23.01.2022 Before I go off to Teach Scripture at Blackheath Primary School this morning ( now in about my 15th year on and off) I have just read The Apostolic Blessing that was granted by Pope John Paul II to my mother, Philomena, for teaching Scripture for 20 years. Its kind of appropriate because today is also the 30th Anniversary of her death. She was 73 years of age (only 5 years older than I am now) when she went Home to be with The Lord. God Bless you, Mum. = Pat Drummond

23.01.2022 Thank you Brian and everyone who attended today’s Parish AGM.

17.01.2022 Pope Francis is to release a new encyclical which is expected to focus on what the world should look like following the Covid-19 pandemic. The 83-year-old Roman Pontiff will travel to Assisi to sign the document, in what will be his first trip outside of Rome since the Coronavirus struck Italy. His visit to the small Umbrian town is highly symbolic as it is taking place on the feast of his namesake, St Francis of Assisi, the saint of poverty, peace and care for creation. ... The Vatican said on 5 September that the encyclical will be titled Fratelli tutti, or Brothers all, and will be on fraternity and social friendship. The Pope will sign it after saying Mass at the tomb of St Francis, but due to the virus, he will celebrate the liturgy privately, and without anyone present.

07.01.2022 Each year as we prepare to enter Advent, that most beautiful season of hope and promise, this little verse from Jan Richardson is etched on our FB page and in o...ur hearts... "The season of Advent means there is something on the horizon the likes of which we have never seen before. It is not possible to keep it from coming, because it will. That's just how Advent works. What is possible is not to see it, to miss it, to turn just as it brushes past you. And you begin to grasp what it was you missed, like Moses in the cleft of the rock, watching God's hindquarters fade in the distance. So stay. Sit. Linger. Tarry. Ponder. Wait. Behold. Wonder. There will be time enough for running. For rushing. For worrying. For pushing. For now, stay. Wait. Something is on the horizon." ~ from Night Visions by Jan Richardson Blessings on this vigil of Advent...let us pray for one another that we will be able to "stay", "sit", "wonder" with our Advent horizon.

02.01.2022 33rd Sunday of the Year & Final Day of NAIDOC Week The wise woman...the wise man...who can find one? That's the question posed and answered by the Readings tod...ay. The First Reading and Gospel both offer great stories about industrious people - busy, willing, eager and using their talents to the full. Wise indeed! These stories brought to mind another story I read earlier this week as we began the celebrations for NAIDOC Week: "All Australians should celebrate that we have the world’s oldest oral stories and that our First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremonies, invented unique technologies and built and engineered structures that predate well-known ancient sites such as the Egyptian pyramids or Stonehenge. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, our first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, astronomers and artists." Wise indeed! Today, as we conclude NAIDOC Week 2020, we acknowledge and celebrate the great legacy of wise women and men who have used their talents for the greater good in our country since the beginning of time. We stand on their shoulders today and pray a share of their spirit as we too seek wisdom and try to shape a better world. Always Was. Always Will Be. Wise indeed!

01.01.2022 27th December - Feast of the Holy Family I came across this beautiful reflection and image by Jenni Perkins the other day. Perfect for the sabbath just after C...hristmas and the feast of the Holy Family...a day when we can finally stop for some of those quiet moments when we sit with the God who "still changes everything". "I love this portrayal of the Nativity. Before the shepherds come rushing in jabbering about an angel choir, before anyone shows up with gifts, there's just Mary, exhausted from child birth, and Joseph, overwhelmed by the task in front of him, and the baby, the baby that changes everything. The quiet beauty of this moment stirs my heart every time I look at it. I love the pomp and fanfare of Christmas (and the chaos of family gatherings). I really do! But I cherish the quiet moments to stop and gaze at the baby. I too am exhausted and overwhelmed, and He still changes everything."
