25.01.2022 "We like the familiar; we like certainty. We love to have our preferences met. In fact, most of us have been taught that getting what we want and avoiding what we don’t is the way to assure our happiness. Inevitably, though, there are unexpected experiences in our livesan unanticipated move, a job loss, a family member’s illness, the death of a beloved petthat we want to push away with all our might. When faced with the uncertain, our first reaction is often resistance. We ...attempt to evict these difficult parts of our lives as if they were unwanted houseguests. In such moments, welcoming seems impossible or even unwise. In order to experience true freedom, we need to be able to welcome everything just as it is. At the deepest level, this invitation, like life itself, asks us to cultivate a kind of fearless receptivity. Welcome everything, push away nothing cannot be done solely as an act of will. To welcome everything is an act of love". - Frank Ostaseski Welcoming is an act of radical acceptance. It doesn't mean you have to like, agree with or condone what is here in this moment and it doesn't replace healthy boundaries and the need for accountability. Radical acceptance invites us to recognise and allow what's here to be met with understanding rather than judgement. When we start to extend this attitude of allowing what's uncomfortable or difficult to be here, we begin to welcome home all the parts of ourselves that we have ignored, rejected or marginalised. These tender or disruptive parts are so often judged as unwanted and so continue to hide out and express themselves in ways that might surprise or disturb us (and/or others). A big part of therapy is working with a skilled professional to support us to safely and gradually welcome these parts of ourselves home, to listen to what they have to say (not necessarily expressed through words) and begin to understand their perspective and purpose. This gradually, in its own time, enables their integration as part of the whole of our lived experience rather than remaining an outcast or exile. Ultimately this not only benefits our relationship with ourselves through cultivating self-understanding and compassionate awareness but also with others as we begin to extend this same attitude towards those parts when they are expressed in our human kin.

21.01.2022 Therapy can be a profoundly personal and meaningful invitation into inner explorations that lead to a depth of self-discovery, self-understanding, self-awareness and self-compassion. Stay curious to what wants to be expressed through you. "Every life is an unprecedented experiment. This life is mine alone. So I have stopped asking people for directions to places they've never been. There is no map. We are all pioneers". - Glennon Doyle (author & activist)

16.01.2022 Sharing reflections and invitations on living with paradox ... expanding awareness beyond either/or to an inclusive both/and ... an integral part of the journey towards learning how to compassionately meet and tend to the full complexity of being human (and an inevitable encounter at some point if you make a commitment to meditation practice or therapy). 15.01.2022 Reposted from therapist, author and activist David Bedrick's page, with heartfelt thanks to David for so often speaking the words that express my lived experience. Perhaps this speaks to you too or you have your own version of this. All parts welcome. "Some days I am clad in metal armor, prepared to do battle. Nothing can harm me. Other days, the slightest look can injure me, the slightest wind can chill me. ... Some days my brilliance shines as if Spirit herself is speaking right through me. Other days, I feel lost and can't find a moment of clarity. Some days my love is so big that it can wrap itself around every person, rock and tree. Other days, my heart feels empty and I wait bereft for her return. Some days success is in my path; all that I pursue seems to unfold and flower right before my eyes. Other days, accepting failure is the only thing that soothes my soul. In earlier years, I sought to overcome the vulnerability, the days of being lost, the emptiness of love, the failure. I hoped to be saved from the torment, healed, empowered or set free. These days, I only wish to become better friends with myself and all my states, and in so doing, become a better friend to the world around me." - David Bedrick

13.01.2022 This morning a small group of us gathered for a vocal sound circle meditation ritual in recognition and celebration of the upcoming Spring Equinox on Tuesday night. We were accompanied by the warm Spring rains and bursts of sunshine as we leant into the fullness and diversity of all the feelings and sounds wanting to be expressed at this time and held in compassionate awareness. We reflected on the challenges and gifts that the year has brought so far and spent time cultivati...ng our hopes, dreams, wishes and intentions for ourselves and our Earth. In allowing, fully feeling and providing loving awareness to all that arises in our experience, we give safe passage for the fullness of our human experience. This is sacred work and I'm deeply grateful to those who attended today and created and held a space that enabled both celebration and grief. This is what supports our aliveness and connectedness. 09.01.2022 Thank you to all the wise women who have connected with me in vocal sound meditation ceremonies this year. Our co-created rituals are nourishing, earth-honouring, sincere, heartfelt and simple offerings dedicated to holding sacred space for our full feeling presence and embodied humanity in all of its diverse expressions. Powerful moments of shared experience that honour our intimate and inter-connected relationship with the other-than-humans we share life in earth with. After each gathering I am humbly reminded of the power and necessity for this way of connection, compassionate awareness and ritual as a sacred container that has the capacity to hold space for the fullness of the human experience emerging through us longing to be seen, heard and witnessed.
08.01.2022 Blessings on this Winter Solstice. May this time of year and any contemplative practices you are drawn to nourish your inner sight and ways of knowing beyond the everyday thinking mind. May you listen deeply to the instinctual wisdom of your body, allowing your direct experience to guide you as you navigate the fertile landscapes of sweet darkness, mystery, not knowing and uncertainty. "In this long dark, logic and plain sight are useless. You navigate by the diffuse and re...flective attention of the moon and stars. Bringing a deep, penetrating silence to the knowing that lives in your bones, stirs in your womb and emanates from your dreams, you recognize that you are no longer who you used to be and not yet still who you will become. You are both, you are neither, you are perfectly between things. Even if distantly and dimly at first, abilities you never had during the day are coming alive. Where you used to seek leadership outside yourself, now yours is the deciding voice. Fear is becoming your strange ally, as you learn to honour and cradle its soft underbelly. Instinct and the mystical pull of your feeling leads the way. You can sense the density of objects around you, hear the songs of stones and know things are coming even before they’ve left. For you, brave pilgrim, I hold this Solstice lantern at the crossroads. While others are anxious to see you arrive, I praise your vast withstanding of the uncertainty from which all meaning is born." 07.01.2022 Blessings on this Spring Equinox. A potent time for deep listening to the creative and instinctual life force that flows through us and all of life in Earth. Perhaps there is a sense when you listen and pay attention to a quality that wants to be resurrected, renewed or expressed through you and out into the world? The warm Spring rains kiss the fertile earth that has composted Autumn's decay over Winter. May your seeds of intention be nourished and nurtured over the coming m...onths. "Behold, my friends, the spring has come! The earth has received the embraces of the sun, And we shall soon see the results of that love! Every seed is awakened and so has all animal life. It is through this mysterious power that we, too, have our being. And we, therefore, yield to our neighbors, even our animal neighbors, The same right as ourselves to inhabit this land". ~ Sitting Bull
06.01.2022 An invitation on the eve of the Winter Solstice, longest night of the year, to connect with your instinctual senses, the mystery of not knowing, awe inspiring outer darkness and the rich fertile expanses of our deep imagination. You might like to spend some time in outer nature communing with the sky and stars or inside in darkness surrendering to presence and exploring embodied knowing and being in your practice in whatever way it expresses through you. Stay curious, follow ...Continue reading
06.01.2022 My heart feels full and my body, mind, soul and spirit enlivened and enriched by the nourishment and wild intimacy these seasonal vocal sound ceremony journeys provide. Last night we honoured the upcoming Winter Solstice cyclical transition and co-created a space for deep listening, connection, surrendering and allowing what wants to be expressed through us. Thank you for bringing your gifts and your griefs. It is a privilege to facilitate and companion you.

03.01.2022 Wholeness As a depth psychotherapist dedicated to facilitating embodied conversations, encounters and relationships between what is known as 'everyday awareness' and what is less known and 'further away from everyday awareness', I might be approaching the idea of wholeness and integration differently to what you've associated with it before ... so I'll share here every few days some musings that reflect my inspirations and influences. This is post 3 in the series. From a de...pth psychotherapy perspective, sensory experiences conventionally known as 'symptoms' (thoughts, feelings, sensations, behaviours) are valuable expressions of "the qualities of wholeness that the psyche is attempting to activate - as opposed to something dysfunctional that needs to be removed. The 'symptom' is honoured as a message from the person's wholeness and becomes a guide for identifying what needs to be encouraged and cultivated" (Bill Plotkin, depth psychologist, wilderness guide & author). 01.01.2022 "For a child to feel belonging, he or she needs to feel understood and loved. We each feel a fundamental sense of connectedness when we are seen and when what is seen is held in love. We habitually relate to our inner life in the same way that others attended to us. When our parents (and the larger culture) don’t respond to our fears, are too preoccupied to really listen to our needs or send messages that we are falling short, we then adopt similar ways of relating to our own... being. We disconnect and banish parts of our inner life. Meditation practices are a form of spiritual reparenting. We are transforming these deeply rooted patterns of inner relating by learning to bring mindfulness and compassion to our life. An open and accepting attention is radical because it flies in the face of our conditioning to assess what is happening as wrong. We are deconditioning the habit of turning against ourselves, discovering that in this moment’s experience nothing is missing or wrong". - Tara Brach Photo by Tina Nord from Pexels
01.01.2022 Wishing you, your family, friends and community a safe and peaceful festive season. Thank you for being here and supporting my offerings. Take care of one another as best you can (we are all inter-connected members of this earth community - humans and other-than-humans). There is no right/one way to be, do or feel at this time of the year (or any other) although you may have received the message from your family/environment/culture that there is. If this is a difficult time... for you please remember you are not alone, others will be feeling similarly and there are community supports available both in person, by phone and online. I'll pin some of these resources to the top of my FB page for easy access. Although I am not able to offer crisis care services I want you to know that your suffering matters, everyone struggles in some way (although you may not see this from the outside) and reaching out for support is a strength. Your experience of discomfort/difficulty/pain, however it shows up in you and your life, is not a sign that you are broken or there is something wrong with you. You are a unique creature here in earth at this time with a particular way of seeing and being in the world. Your lived experience and perspective is meaningful and valuable to the diversity of our planet. Don't give up. Photo by Markus Spiske temporausch.com from Pexels
