25.01.2022 Our second handicraft meeting was held this morning once again lots of chatter and laughter. So good to be able to see each other again. Here are a few of the rope work items being created by our talented ladies. Next meeting 15th September.

23.01.2022 Hi Everyone, We can’t meet together to make our Christmas wreaths, but maybe you can have a go at home yourselves if you want to while we are all locked down ...Take a wire coat hanger and make it into a circle. If you don’t want the hook at the top, you can cut it off with wire cutters and use pliers to fold over the twisted bit at the top. (Image 1) Cut your chosen fabric into 1*6 inch strips. You will need about 150 of a number of different fabrics. A few of each colour seems to work well. (Image 2) Tie the fabric around the wire in a single knot. You can mix up your colours as you choose. I started off with white and green, then added in a few red every now and again to make it look like berries. Well, that was the idea! (Image 3) Keep the knots pressed up together tightly and arrange to suit your taste. Hang wherever you choose! (Image 4) Happy Christmas! If you do one, please take a photo and post in the comments! Would love to see some! Cheers Jo Lush

13.01.2022 Tempting Tuesday: This should be the week when the SACWA Country Cafe is humming with the worker bees getting the Cafe ready for the opening of the Show but ala...s the doors are shut, the closed sign is up and all is quiet. We asked one of our chief Cafe scone makers for her tips on cooking the best scones at home and here is what she told us: * Once you have mixed the scone mix let it rest before cutting * Use cold, floured hands (and a warm heart) to work the dough * Pre heat the oven to 200-220 degrees so it is nice and hot before popping in your tray * Place the scones close to each other, not quite kissing, but about 1/2 cm apart. Now you are ready to produce your best batch of scones. PS: these tips were brought to you by Bernadette McNamara, SACWA Adelaide Branch (Assistant/Understudy to Sally Lightburn) and winner of the RA&HS Scone Competition 2019! #TheShowAtHome #Laucke The Happy Valley Branch will have scones for sale at Wayville Farmer's Market each Sunday in September from 08.30 - 12.30 as well as all the things you'd expect to find in the SACWA marquee if the show was on. 11.01.2022 Welcome to this week's Corona Craft brought to you by the SACWA State Handicraft Committee. This week we have another card project brought to you by Chris. It i...s a Card in a Box, or sometimes called the 'Exploding Card'. Materials 1 card stock 12" x 12" This is scored on 2 sides at 3", 6" and 9". This will give 2 boxes/ or one box with the 'extra bits'. Extra bits:- when attaching these, make sure they are stuck firmly. One piece 1" x 3" to join the sides to form the box Three of one pattern for the top of the flaps on the inside 7cm squares: 4 each of 2 patterns for the outside of the box 3 each of one pattern for the top of the flaps on the inside Background: One piece 7.5cm x 15cm of sturdy card Assemble as in the picture and add your own embellishments. I suggest double sided taping together two pieces of card stock to make the stems for the flowers (or whatever) For a 4" box, score one sheet at 4" and 8". Then cut off one complete row. This will leave 3 sides of the box. The piece that you cut off will give the fourth side of the box. I suggest that this piece is used as the BACK side, covered with the sturdy, full length card after taping the tow sides to the other part of the box. The Handicraft Shop also sells a large selection of your card making needs including stickers, card stock, envelopes, 3D cut outs and so much more. The shop is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 3pm. All are welcome. The next Card Day is on the 2nd November, so if you would like to join in, book early! See more
