19.01.2022 This trimester 12 SAE students participated in a work placement opportunity with the United Nations Association of Australia WA Inc. The students were lucky enough to be mentored by Kelly Bergsma, Perth film producer and CEO of The Good Chat Foundation, in the production phase of the project. The UNAAWA committee ran a pre-recorded virtual event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the UN. Students filmed and recorded award presentations, interviews and a Welcome to Country... ceremony on location at the Duxton Hotel, alongside MC commentary in our Cyclorama. Audio students coordinated sound for filming, post production and music composition, and student editors put the entire 45 minute(!) video together for a Facebook live screening, alongside a physical screening at the in-person VIP event. Congratulations to all the students involved, who represented SAE professionally and conscientiously on this real-world project with such a significant global organisation.

17.01.2022 Current Film student Erik Bibaeff has had some incredible opportunities during his work placement module. One of these was filming for Keepers of the Language, an indigenous language program. Erik was initially brought on as a Cinematographer (or DOP), but has since been promoted to a Producer and then an Executive Producer. Following a restructure, Erik is now in a key role and will oversee the creative direction alongside the creator of the project. Incredible! Check out the photos from the initial shoot days, where Erik had the opportunity to work with Elders and young First Nation kids.
