24.01.2022 Congratulations to recent SAE Institute Melbourne Film graduate Liz Calingasan whose film Biting the Bullet is an Official Selection at the Docs Without Borders Film Festival in Dellaware (USA) under the category of "Human Spirit" as a Documentary Short Film. Liz explained that her motivation for the film was to explore the psychological reasoning why someone steps into the boxing ring. What she discovered in Junqing ‘Tamie’ Tan "was a deeper story about the hope of a young o...verseas international student, looking towards boxing as an opportunity to become a permanent resident and sponsored athlete, of a country that she has fallen in love with." Reflecting on her time at SAE, Liz says that "studying a Bachelor of Film at SAE was a great experience and opportunity to meet like minded creatives with whom to explore the endless possibilities of film as an impactful medium, representative of our own unique voices." 16.01.2022 Earlier this year we shared a story about current SAE Audio student Simon Reich's documentary that explores his father's experience of World War II. He has shown great flexibility and creativity to rescope the project as a podcast for this trimester in light of COVID restrictions. Simon spent the day recording a string quarter in SAE's Audient studio. He explained that "because the "Up From The Rubble" documentary & podcast, mostly centres around World War 2 & the subsequent... years leading up to the building of the Berlin Wall, I felt a timeless soundtrack would be the best option, so the obvious choice was to use a string quartet".
