18.01.2022 So Bass Coast Shire Council is finally looking at building a foot/bike/pram path along the unsealed section of Shetland heights road to the new school it will ...be compact gravel until the road is decided upon let’s hope it gets finished so locals and tourists can walk/ride/pram safely along the road ASAP! See following for recent info from BCC The independent traffic impact assessment is now contracted to Obrien Traffic. The outcome and recommendations of report including impacts of school on road is expected to support further advocacy to the State and will inform road design. The traffic impact assessment, drainage assessment work (commencing shortly) and legal work are all part of the process and are being costed to $50,000 budget for the upgrade planning phase. We are currently recruiting for a dedicated project lead who’s initial focus will be to progress the community engagement. The path would likely go on high side Of the road. The delivery team are programming works and this is priority for 21/22. The future geometry of the road and associated drainage may impact the path alignment so that is why it is planned as gravel for now. It will be smooth enough to ride, walk and push prams on and will be compacted gravel not crushed rock like an unsealed road.
